MILLTOWN MEMORIES OF OTHER DAYS 1984 by DENIS (DENNY) SUGRUE (1906 – 1986) Memories of Other Days was published in 1984 two years before Denny’s death. It was the first official publication of the history of Milltown. Denny lived through an era of many changes … Electric Light, Telephone, Television and having a keen eye for observation, wrote about them as they happened. He compiled the Milltown Notes for the Kerryman for over half a century and this was the ideal vehicle to give weekly accounts of Milltown life including large cabbages, missing dogs and cats and the famous account of the missing pound note seen floating in the breeze around Bridge Street in his own distinctive style. He had a personal interest in the Godfrey Family and the Big House as members of his family worked there. Indeed it could be said that he carried the historical torch for Milltown culminating in this publication -‐ Memories of Other Days. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam dílis.
