BETH ROBERTSON FIDES The Edge

Foreword Beth Robertson Fiddes paints from the north west edge of Scotland where land and sea meet. All the secret waterfalls and hidden coves are known to her and visited as often as possible. The more Robertson Fiddes goes to these marginal places, the deeper she is able to go in capturing them: so she haunts them in all weathers. At the edge there is danger. Here, with the drop of a cliff or the foaming sea, we meet primal energies. The hurly-burly draws us to it, and balance lets us remain. There are forces here that have sculpted and created for aeons of rock forming tectonic time: producing this landscape of chaos and balance. In this exhibition Robertson Fiddes captures the beauty of these forces and the land they have produced; always bringing the canvas to balance and never losing the energy that drew her to the spot. They immerse you in paint and land, evoking many things: danger, calm and life. I hope you enjoy this catalogue which celebrates fourteen of the twentyeight paintings in this exhibition.
