Foreword What is a prophet? A person with special powers to express what God wishes to be heard? Maybe someone who has travelled to live a remote life dedicated to understanding natural powers? To me, these definitions describe Paul Bloomer, his journey from the industrial Black Country to Shetland and the great passion of his looking-glass art. In 2018 Bloomer brought us his first set of a group of etchings: the Return of the Light. These describe events observed in the birds of Shetland - water song, wing song and healing place - stories told by nature to those who one listens. This year, in 2020, Bloomer brings to us ‘Entering the Darkness.’ The mood of Shetland wildlife has changed. There is migration and movement, agitation and a gathering of geese. Beasts, to Bloomer, listen to the moon and move together with love. Is there a better or more prophetic message for a new decade?
