aka: Gestalt laws of grouping first proposed by Gestalt psychologists to account for the observation that humans naturally perceive objects as organized patterns and objects. Gestalt psychologists argued that these principles exist because the mind has an innate disposition to perceive patterns in the stimulus based on certain rules.

Closure we have a tendency to close gaps and complete unfinished forms because closed shapes feel more visually stable.

symmetric operations Symmetry is the relationship in size, form, and arangement of parts on opposing sides of a plane, line, or point. The center axis is a big influence in composition when considering symmetry. Through summetry you can create visual balance using elements like shapes, sizes and colors.

aka: Gestalt laws of grouping compositional balance refers to the placement of elements in a composition and how they relate to eachother through thier organization and positioning. when balanced a composition appears stable and visually aplealing.

Gestalt is all around us. Before going through this process of identifying the laws of gestalt and symmetrical balance I did not realize that these principles are all around us in the world. Now I can see how important these principles are when communicating though a composition. Symmetry and balance are important aspects of making a composition feel visually satisfying.
