EXCELLENCE IN ART SINCE 1963

Dear Friends, As our latest newsletter rolls off the press, we are pleased to offer a selection of new works for your consideration. On the following pages, you will find a diverse group of paintings and sculpture, some by artists you are familiar with, but perhaps one or two of these artists are new to you! Case in point are avian artists Jhenna Quinn Lewis and Stefan Savides who have recently joined the gallery. While both are very established in their fields and have enjoyed long careers, we are pleased to have the opportunity to introduce them to our collector base. On page 7 you will see a sampling of their work along with a brief biography on each artist. Also, new to the gallery is Colorado based artist Thomas Blackshear. A graduate of the American Academy of Art in Chicago Thomas hails Bill Anton, A Fresh Grizzly Track, oil on linen, 36 x 48 inches, $42,500 from a very successful freelance illustration career. Known for his dramatic lighting and sensitivity to mood, he has produced illustrations for a number of publications as well as postage stamps, greeting cards and national posters. He also illustrated a commemorative stamp book entitled “I Have a Dream.” Seventeen of his original paintings from the publication were exhibited at the Smithsonian Institute in Washington D.C. and toured the country for eight years. His work is included in the permanent collection of the Booth Western Art Museum in Cartersville, Georgia. Looking ahead, we have a number of shows scheduled for the busy summer art season at our Jackson, Wyoming location, beginning with “Cultural Portraits” a June showcase for Chinese figurative painter Jie Wei Zhou. Based in Colorado, Zhou is recognized for his stunning figural works that primarily depict the tribal peoples of Tibet, Mongolia and China. He has always loved painting the rich costumes and cultures of these people. Zhou often captures the everyday life of children and adults, dating as far back as the 18th century to present day. I encourage you to Thomas Blackshear, Peace Pipe, oil and goldleaf on board, visit our website to 27 1/2 x 36 1/2 inches, $25,000 view additional works by these and other artists and to see a complete schedule of upcoming shows and events at the gallery. INTRODUCING STEFAN SAVIDES & JHENNA QUINN LEWIS

BIRDS OF A FEATHER We are pleased to announce that sculptor Stefan Savides and painter Jhenna Quinn Lewis have recently joined Trailside Galleries. Both artists are well known for their avian subjects.

Stefan Savides, Top Notch, bronze ed. of 35, 11 1/2 x 8 1/2 x 6 1/2 inches, $2,800

Stefan Savides, Rock Star, bronze ed. of 35, sizes vary, $1,500-$1,800

Stefan Savides, Prickly Pair, bronze ed. of 35, 18 x 24 x 10 inches, $3,200

Stefan Savides, Lizard Wizard, bronze ed. of 35, 14 x 10 x 6 inches, $1,800

Jhenna Quinn Lewis, Fog Lifting, oil on masonite, 12 x 9 inches, $2,600

Savides’ early art endeavors consisted of paintings and woodcarvings of birds, however he found financial balance in avian taxidermy. In short order he found himself as an international figure in the world of bird taxidermy, judging taxidermy shows world wide as well as conducting seminars and workshops nationally and internationally. These years of working with birds became the backbone of his knowledge as he stepped into the world of bronze sculpture. His understanding of anatomy, attitude and essence of birds is what gives his sculpture the element of life that transcends the mere mass of bronze metal. Jhenna Quinn Lewis is an American oil painter of avian and still-life subjects whose meditative compositions and detailed realism blend the tenets of Japanese wabi sabi with a sense of light like the old masters. For Lewis, art has been the driving force in her life and her great love since childhood. At 43 years old, Lewis began painting full time and for the last two decades her paintings of fruit and avian subjects have grown in popularity and recognition by collectors. In her work, attention is paid to the smallest details and is balanced with her adherence to austerity and atmosphere.

MATT SMITH High Above Bartlett oil on board 10 x 14 inches $3,100

Cascades oil on linen 10 x 12 inches $2,500 Sailor Lake Shoreline, oil on linen, 20 x 26 inches, $7,600

Matt Smith is an artist deeply committed to the classic tradition of landscape painting. Working directly from nature, he captures the subtleties of mood, light and atmosphere, transforming masses, shapes and colors into a landscape expression. Regarded as one of the premier plein air painters in the country, Smith uses color and texture in his oil paintings to impart the works with a sense of tangibility, whether that place is the Sonoran desert, the Rocky Mountains or the California coast. For Smith, this tangibility is more important than absolute accuracy in a painting. Smith focuses on capturing the character of a given setting, avoiding anything that might distract the viewer from a landscape’s distinctive qualities.
