SEPTEMBER 2014
I
n the eloquent words of the Nobel Prize winning author and journalist, Albert Camus, “Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” Indeed, another fall season is upon us as artists, collectors and art enthusiasts make their way to Jackson Hole, Wyoming for a busy weekend of cultural and art related events during the annual Fall Arts Festival. As we do every September, the gallery hosts the annual Fall Gold Exhibition and Sale, an event that celebrates wildlife, sporting art, and the beauty of our natural world. We are very pleased to bring you an exceptional collection of new works from many of the country’s top artists, including John Seerey-Lester who we are featuring in a special showcase. In recent years, the award-winning artist has produced a remarkable series of paintings depicting historic African hunts of safari legends and the hunting heritage of North America. Many of these images appear in his new book, “Legends of the Hunt-Campfire Tales.” John will be present in the gallery on both Friday and Saturday to sign copies of his book. We are also very pleased to feature an additional showcase with Lindsay Scott. Acclaimed for her dynamic and bold oil paintings as well as exquisitely detailed pencil drawings, Scott is an avid observer of nature, and her works reflect her close study of animal life, conveying a candid sense of firsthand experience while capturing intimate emotional moments. Montana based wildlife artist Kyle Sims has been busy in his studio all summer preparing new works for our fall show. Since joining Trailside Galleries a few years ago, collectors around the country took quick note of the enormous talent of this young artist and have continued to appreciate the sense of awe and the essence of natural realism with which he renders some of the grandest of North American wildlife.
Reconnected, 50 x 40 inches, Oil, $28,000
An added bonus to the gallery’s busy Fall show schedule, is our first one man show for Logan Maxwell Hagege. With this new collection of works, the American Southwest comes to life in a series of figural and landscape works that capture Native American culture juxtaposed with the arid landscape of the desert Southwest. We are so pleased to have Logan in person at the gallery on Saturday, September 13th during our artist reception. The gallery is also pleased to feature a new body of work from California painter Tim Solliday. With a painting style that echoes the Taos Society of Artists and the early California Impressionists, Tim’s work is a unique combination of the historic and the contemporary; his western landscapes and figures imbued with vibrant color and bold, dramatic brushstrokes. Rustic furniture artisans John Gallis and Brad Greenwood currently have their latest designs in the gallery. Together, they bring more than a half-century of combined excellence to their award winning furniture.
Ken Carlson, Polar Ice Pack, 20 x 40 inches, Oil, $38,000 “The ‘white on white’ of polar bears in their environment is a challenge to paint and it is a process I enjoy. I have been fortunate to see polar bears in the wild and in this painting I wanted to depict a large image of the bear in the vast landscape he inhabits. The pack ice adds rugged shapes and shadows while the deep blue water sets an arctic mood.” - Ken Carlson
And lastly, Trailside in partnership with the Gerald Peters Gallery will be presenting the 8th annual Jackson Hole Art Auction on Saturday September 13 at the Center for the Arts. There is an all day preview on Friday and the auction gets under way on Saturday at 12:30 PM. As you browse through our newsletter, I would remind you that you can see additional new works featured in our Fall Gold show by logging onto our website. We look forward to seeing you in the gallery! Maryvonne Leshe, Managing Partner
