E VOME T ADVANCED BIKE LIGHTING SYSTEM

Supervisor: Joel Wittcamp The goal is to enhance the function of an existing bike lighting system and enhance the experience of biking through redesigning an existing product.

ANTI-THEFT

Start by understanding user’s need, I have gathered many reviews from online customers about bike lights. After evaluating many reviews, I have observed that customers buy there bike light based on these four factors: Utility, safety, portability, anti-theft. Thus these four factors will become our design criteria for the bike light.

UTILITY

The existing market shows the majority of bike light designs are still restricted to one single format (see red, blue, violet quadrant), and only few of them are multifunctioned or more integrated (see yellow quadrant). Since the population of the bike commuter is growing, bike lightings should have already been considered as a system for bikers. Hence, we predicted that products of yellow quadrant will be more common in the future.

After considering integrating bike helmets with other bike accessories, we have come to the conclusion that integrating lights with the helmet is more applicable since it locates at the most visible position on a biker. Our design will be focusing of the utility and the appearance of the product so users will be less frustrated with bike lights and be more confident wearing a bike helmet.

1 Top of the monitor is at or just below eye level so the user does not have to tilt the head up or bend the neck down to see the monitor. 2 Keep elbows at a 90° angle, with elbows close to the body and forearms parallel to the floor.

3 Average height of desk use for general purpose writing is 28-30 inches.

From a utilitarian stand point, many monitor risers on the market provides easy accessible USB ports and some storage space, but there is a huge gap between those which also integrated speakers in it. Thus we saw a wide opportunity in developing those monitor risers with built-in speakers.
