YOU ARE PASSIONATE ABOUT WOODTURNING. Like the AAW, you want to support the art and craft of woodturning and help it endure, evolve, and grow through increased opportunities for education, information, inspiration, community, and outreach. The AAW has worked for thirty years to advance the art and craft of woodturning with the sustained passion, dedication, and engagement of our 15,000 members and 350 chapters around the globe. As a result, woodturning has become more than a means to shape a spindle or make a bowl. Today, lathe-turned work is also understood as an art form and vehicle for individual enrichment, creativity, and self-expression. Together, we have formed a true community of woodturning worldwide. And togther we are shaping the future of woodturning for generations to come.

SUPPORT THE WOODTURNING COMMUNITY THROUGH AAW.
AAW is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization and membership dues cover only a portion of the expenses for our member programs and services. That’s why the AAW relies on the generous support of our member community and others for additional underwriting.
We invite you to help advance our educational mission while supporting the woodturning community and enriching your own woodturning experience. A gift to AAW reflects your support of our mission, your dedication to woodturning, and your investment in the future of the art form. Additionally, your gift will help AAW strengthen communities and enrich lives through its investment in a variety of ongoing charitable initiatives. AAW is an efficient efficient organization and 100% of your tax-deductible (U.S. residents) donation directly supports woodturning education and service programs for the woodturning community.
“The AAW and the turning world is my life right now… It has given me self-worth and purpose.” – Ron Campbell (pictured left) “I think of myself as a block of wood… AAW is knocking off the rough corners. Over time I will learn what shape and form will evolve from being involved with such a great organization.” – Mark Palma
OPPORTUNITIES FOR GIVING Unrestricted Financial Gifts Undesignated donations to AAW’s General Fund provide vital general operating support for the organization. As you may know, membership dues cover only a portion of the expenses for AAW’s programs and services. That’s why we rely on the generous support of our member community for additional underwriting. Your gift to AAW’s General Fund will be used to sustain operations and support activities that deliver woodturning education and services for our member community worldwide. These activities include VISION 2020 initiatives, grants and scholarships, instructional videos, teaching and safety resources, specialty programming, and more.
Designated Financial Gifts Your designated gift to AAW will be contributed to the specific initiatives you choose. Examples of designated gifts include the following: Endowment Fund, Education Opportunity Grant (EOG) Fund, Symposium Fund, Turners Without Borders Fund, and the Women in Turning Fund.
Estate-Planning Gifts Your gift to AAW as a bequest through your will is one of the simplest forms of planned gifts. In a bequest, you designate either a specific dollar amount or a percentage of your estate as a gift after other disbursements. Leaving a gift to the AAW doesn’t mean you can’t leave money to your family. You can do both. In addition to supporting the AAW, your planned gift conveys your passion for woodturning and may also reduce the amount of your taxable estate, which can increase the actual amount you leave to loved ones. Find out how it works at woodturner.org/donations.
“The AAW has opened the door to some of the most satisfying and rewarding moments in my life.” – Carmen De La Paz (pictured right) “Being part of the AAW is a gift. My dearest friends are connections I’ve made through woodturning. Plus, most of my personal travel centers around woodturning gatherings.” – Tim Heil
Gifts of Capital Assets When you make a gift of appreciated securities (stocks, bonds, or mutual funds), you may be able to claim the fair market value of the donated securities on the date of the donation as a charitable deduction for tax purposes and eliminate taxes on accumulated capital gains. Find out how it works at woodturner.org/donations.
Annual Gifts Your annual gift of any size can help AAW to deliver service and educational programs for our member community. Your annual gift may also help the AAW offset expenses, delay dues increases, and help keep AAW membership affordable for all.
Sponsorship Gifts A gift of a symposium sponsorship can help AAW offset symposium costs and keep registration fees affordable. Sponsorship opportunities include naming rights for symposium demonstration rooms, the exhibition rooms, the Instant Gallery, and the EOG auction. What’s more, a symposium sponsorship can provide visibility and name recognition for you, or honor of someone you respect.
Gifts of Art With a gift of personally owned, turned art, you may be able to claim the fair market value of the donated art work as a charitable deduction for tax purposes. Find out how it works at woodturner.org/donations.
“The AAW has affected my life in a positive way. I view the AAW as the core source from which all information and advancement in woodturning originates.” – Mark Wood (pictured right) “Being able to meet and socialize with people that share a common interest but come from all walks of life and areas of the world has had a profound effect on me.” – J. Paul Fennell
Tax Benefits AAW does not provide tax advice and recommends that you consult with your own tax adviser to evaluate the specific tax benefits or consequences of your gift based on your personal financial situation.
