PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE Welcome to our Education-2-Entrepreneur 2016 Scholarship Banquet (“E2E”). We greatly appreciate your attendance, support, and participation. We are here tonight not only to award scholarships to young, future female entrepreneurs, but also to inspire them and those of you present with an accomplished panel of previous AWE (Amazing Women Event) winners. An event of any size requires tremendous preparation, and I greatly appreciate the dedicated and tireless efforts of the NAWBO-IE Board of Directors. Thank you, also, to the NAWBO-U Board for coordinating the scholarship nomination process.

Beth Sari

Additionally, we would be remiss if we did not thank our NAWBO-IE Corporate Partners. In particular, we must recognize Sempra Energy for sponsoring much of the E2E event. We cannot, as an organization, support, connect, and develop women business owners throughout the Inland Empire without our Corporate Partners’ generous donations. We know there are many worthy organizations seeking their patronage and we do not take their generosity for granted. Once again, thank you for taking your time to join us this evening. Please enjoy yourselves. Be inspired. We welcome you to join our NAWBO-IE chapter! Remember – people do business with people they know, like, and trust. NAWBO-IE is an excellent organization to foster the growth of those solid business relationships. Most sincerely,

Beth Sari

AMAZING PANELISTS Beverly Leach

2009 AWE Business Woman of the Year

Beverly Leach is a woman whose motto is, “Persistence pays off.” She could have easily given up, given her circumstances. However, she kept going and kept knocking down walls. As a single mom with a newborn and a toddler, and the sole support for her daughters, she returned to college and graduated at the top of her class from Roger Williams University in Rhode Island with a degree in business. She started her career as the lone woman hired in marketing with a major food products firm. That was over forty years ago. Beverly later became a successful business owner who made a name for herself in the male-dominated food equipment manufacturing industry. Beverly, whose background was marketing food products, equipment, and services, was the owner of a Corona-based brush company. The company’s signature line was grill and pizza oven brushes for restaurants. Last year, Beverly sold the company to an Ohio corporation after 22 years of successful business. Another passion Beverly has is collecting fine porcelain. She loves encouraging others to appreciate beautiful china and “elegant living.” Her collection includes over 300 teacups, more than 50 teapots, and over 100 porcelain plates. She travels the globe to add to her collection. Today, at almost 72, she is thinking about turning this passion into another business. Beverly has two daughters who are successful career women, and three grandchildren.

Tonja Smith

Over the last three years the vision of Redeeming Hearts has grown. Currently, it is partnering with a leadership school that helps youth develop fundamental leadership traits. The focus for these young ladies is on education, apprenticeship, and character development. Tonja Smith has lived in Corona for 45 years and felt it was time to give back to her community. In 2008 she found a need within the community and partnered with community leaders to make this program possible. When asked about the program’s success, Tonja says, “We have successfully seen lives change and young ladies grow into leaders.”

These individuals typically are pursuing an undergraduate degree or graduate degree in business or entrepreneurship, or a closely related field.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS Shraddha Patel My name is Shraddha Patel and I am a current third year honors student majoring in Business with a concentration in Information Systems at the University of California, Riverside. My attendance at UCR’s accredited AACSB Business program has offered a path for me to grow and build skills in a diverse environment that valued avenues for entrepreneurship. The diversity of backgrounds and ideas is a perfect environment to develop business ideas, but is also an environment that provides global perspective. UCR replicates a scaled environment of globally integrated perspectives, ideas and values which makes it the ideal place to gain experience for a Business degree that requires candidates to present global insight to leverage value within various countries. I view myself as an extroverted person that enjoys meeting new people, learning about new cultures and using those skills to leverage my outlook regarding the global marketplace. As a first generation student I am thrilled at being able to pursue a higher education that many other individuals don’t have the opportunity to obtain and am extremely thankful to all the selfless mentors and coaches that have guided me towards exploring career opportunities that I could achieve with my higher education. Giving back to the community that gave to me is an important aspect of my life; therefore, after gaining my degree, I plan to open a non-profit learning academy where I can relay the knowledge I gained in college to direct other students toward success in their higher education goals. In addition, I also volunteer my time to BAPS charities, which is a nonprofit international charities organization that strives to create a better community. I am currently involved with the University Honors Program. Last spring, I took the opportunity to become an Honors Teacher Assistant for a course within the Honors program curriculum. As an undergrad I gained insight regarding teaching as an alternative career opportunity and it has certainly prompted me to keep my possibilities open in regards to gaining a Master’s Degree and possibly even a Ph.D. In addition, I have been working within the Cyber-infrastructure department on campus for over a year. The position involves monitoring a help-desk ticketing system that provides technical support through software and hardware updates and maintenance for all four libraries on campus, which includes over 500+ student work desks and 108+ faculty workstations. My aspirations for my future career definitely consist of fusing the disciplines of technology and business to achieve greater intelligence systems that improve the rate, efficiency, and effectiveness that businesses can implement within operations to deliver value. My degree in Business with a concentration in Information Systems motivates me to strive for career positions that combine data analytic and business intelligence systems to improve global corporate business models and operations. My future summer intern position within Risk Assurance and Data Analytics at Pricewaterhouse Coopers (PwC) will help lay the stepping stones for my future endeavors of fusing Business and Technology.

SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS Alyssa Stump Hello, my name is Alyssa Stump and I am a senior at the University of California at Riverside concentrating in Marketing. Four years ago I applied to UCR as a Biology major, and I was convinced I would spend my life studying the brains of children with autism. I quickly realized that a life spent inside a chemistry lab was not my cup of tea. What truly fascinated me, and had for years, was body language. After the usual switch of majors students go through, I selected Business Administration because I was then convinced I would start my own non-profit organization dedicated to changing the minds of students everywhere in regards to people with disabilities. I have a passion for advocating for people with disabilities. I hope to one day build my own organization that is dedicated to helping young adults with disabilities learn how to perform extreme sports, like snowboarding and surfing I am a world traveler and an entrepreneur at heart. Playing sports is my second passion. I grew up an athlete, and though I do not play competitively anymore, fitness and health are two of my hobbies. I work out and meal prep five/seven days of the week. I like to enjoy my weekends with pizza. I work very hard. I am currently interning for the Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor at UCR. In terms of family, I have four parents: mom, dad, stepmom, and stepdad, and I have two sisters who are both twelve. They are not twins. One is from mom and stepdad and the other from dad and stepmom. Their names are Danielle and Janelle (the coincidences are endless.) My favorite thing in my undergraduate career has been my position as a Student Ambassador for the School of Business Administration. This position allows me to mentor my peers, act as a resource for incoming students, and interact with industry professionals.
