THE GUIDE 2018

A WARM WELCOME FROM THE ALLEN MAYOR This is an exciting time to call Allen home. Money Magazine named Allen as the best place in Texas and second-best place to live in the nation. We continue to be known as an outstanding family-friendly community. From our nationally acclaimed parks and recreation system to Safest City designations, we have been recognized for environmental programs, digital practices, library services, and more. Our pro-business approach has attracted countless new companies and encouraged many others to stay here as they grow. New Class A office developments like One Bethany at Watters Creek will soon be home to tenants like NetScout and Boss Fight Entertainment. Construction is underway for one of the largest data centers in North Texas, and it won’t be long until WatchGuard opens their new national corporate headquarters. Development along SH 121 begins with recent approval of The Strand which aims to be a unique, all-in-one location for boutique shopping, dining, working, and living. Allen is also an inviting destination for regional visitors and meeting planners. Scheduled to open early 2019, Allen adds The Delta Hotels by Marriott Dallas Allen Watters Creek Convention Center to our mix of destination assets. The new convention center is in a prime location within walking distance from Watters Creek at Montgomery Farm. Allen Premium Outlets is expanding and getting a new neighbor. The Stacy Green development will be a mix of uses including residential, retail, restaurant and office. Together with the quality progress happening around the city, Allen Event Center remains strong as a regional entertainment venue. The arena offers fans everything from Disney on Ice to National Wrestling Championships and concert headliners. The Allen Americans, our multi-year championship hockey team, still call it home. Allen Event Center’s prime location in The Village at Allen makes it a perfect setting for event planners as it offers shopping, dining and hotel accommodations. With several community arts organizations under the Allen Arts Alliance umbrella, enjoying an evening of live music, dance or theater is almost always a possibility. The Blue House Too Gallery features exhibits from regional and national artists. We have almost 1,200 acres of park land and over 60 miles of hike and bike trails with more on the way. Our newest addition is the 75-acre Spirit Park which includes a lighted adult softball complex, looped pedestrian trail and extra multi-use fields. The landscape continues to flourish in Allen as we grow from our current population of just more than 100,000. And, working together, we continue to build our community through a strategic planning process that reflects the long-term needs and vision we share with our residents. Whether you are a new business owner or a new resident, we are thrilled you have chosen to call Allen “home.”

Stephen Terrell, Mayor City of Allen

TH

ANNIVERSARY

THE GUIDE 2018

A MESSAGE FROM THE FAIRVIEW MAYOR Welcome to Fairview, an oasis of town and country living in the heart of north Texas, that offers a lifestyle far different from a typical suburb. We have horse farms, upscale neighborhoods with acre-lots, townhomes and Heritage Ranch an active adult community all with a country feel. And, unlike the flatlands of north Dallas, Fairview enjoys a gently rolling terrain with natural creeks lined with native oaks and pecans. The town is adjacent to the 289-acre Heard Wildlife Sanctuary. Progressive development standards protect the natural environment without sacrificing lifestyle and convenience. Environmental protections include a tree preservation ordinance, protections for creek greenbelts and floodplains, open-space requirements and even a “dark skies” lighting ordinance designed to preserve views of the night sky. The Town of Fairview also offers a vibrant mixed-use development. Fairview Town Center is an open-air lifestyle center with mall shopping, dining, entertainment and close-in living options including apartments over retail, townhomes and garden homes. Dillard’s, Macy’s, JC Penney, The Container Store, Whole Foods and Old Navy, along with many specialty shops, offer great shopping options. Whether you eat at one of the many restaurants, raise vegetables in the community garden, watch a movie while having dinner and drinks at iPic Theater or catch one of the award winning shows at Fairview Youth Theatre, there is something for everyone in Fairview. We are blessed with terrific schools, nearby hospitals and highly rated fire and public safety services. The town’s strategic location at the intersection of US Highways 75 and 121 puts residents close to jobs and only minutes away from the rest of the DFW Metroplex. I extend my personal invitation to come and see what makes Fairview special.

Darion Culbertson, Mayor Town of Fairview

f you’re on the hunt for big city amenities, but don’t want to give up small town convenience or stunning country charm, you’ll find what you’re looking for in Allen and Fairview, Texas. It’s all about balance, and Allen and Fairview have that mastered. Boasting quick access to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex with the services, perks and culture the fourth largest metropolitan area in the country can offer while maintaining the allure of wide open spaces and charm of a small town is something both communities have worked hard to provide. And they more than deliver. It’s all about livability, and Allen and Fairview have the market cornered. In fact, if you look closely it’s easy to see that the area has the best of what Texas has to offer. Both communities offer a wide variety of big city amenities and country living backed by thriving retail, dining, and entertainment options as well as a strong small town quality of life and an exceptional

education system. While Allen and Fairview are two distinct cities, each with unique qualities that make them great places to call home, between them it’s easy to see that there’s something for everyone. As a result of that careful planning, Allen has plenty of reasons to celebrate. Named in 2017 #1 in Texas and #2 in the nation by MONEY Magazine's annual "Best Places to Live in America!", the city has a list of accolades that are long and impressive. The city has been recognized by: • CNBC “Best Suburbs in America” (2018) • Center for Digital Government “Digital Cities Survey” (2017) • Homes.com Top 5 “Friendliest Cities for Young Families (2017) • Safewise “Safest Cities in Texas” (2016) • WalletHub “Best Cities for FirstTime Homebuyers (2016) • National Gold Medal for Park

THERE’S PLENTY TO CELEBRATE IN ALLEN Sure, there are a lot of communities that boast a small-town quality of life with the benefits of living near a major metropolitan area, but Allen truly delivers. Its reputation as a friendly, thriving community brings people to the area to live, work and play. It’s perfect for individuals or families that want the conveniences of a flourishing city without sacrificing the sense of community of a small town. City leaders recognize this is a priceless and delicate balance well worth maintaining, and approach growth issues strategically and with consideration of the community’s long-term needs. 12 I

and Recreation Management (2016) • Keep Texas Beautiful Governor’s Achievement Award (2016) Mayor Stephen Terrell works hard to preserve the sense of community that makes Allen so special. “Our city is a blend of different ages, religions and ethnic groups," Terrell says. "But we all care for each other. We volunteer together. We send our kids to the same high school and root for the same football team every Friday night. I love representing this kind of community.” Allen’s shopping, dining, and entertainment options are impressive and not typical of communities with a population of just more than 100,000. Allen Event Center hosts professional hockey and has everything from Disney on Ice to some big-ticket acts including concert headliners such as Twenty One Pilots, Bryan Adams, and Steve Miller, and

Allen Premium Outlets plus a wide variety of upscale boutiques, name-brand stores and mom and pop shops offer multiple retail options for residents, and the choices continue with the city boasting more than 200 restaurants. When you add to that more than 65 miles of hiking and nature trails

along with almost 800 acres of developed parks, it’s easy to see that the city has everything residents need to feel right at home. FAIRVIEW IS TRULY A HIDDEN GEM Fairview isn’t sitting idly by. In fact, the town is busy cultivating its own special quality of life. It’s considered

to be an oasis, offering a lifestyle that residents won’t find in a typical suburb. While less than an hour away from the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex, Fairview feels worlds away from the gleaming downtown skyscrapers and hustle and bustle. The low-density housing with easy access to amenities and excellent

Allen Economic Development Corporation at Montgomery Farm, the Allen Event Center, and the Village at Allen. In total, AEDC projects have created more than 17,000 jobs and a property tax base exceeding $2.5 billion. The latest projects include more than $200 million in construction in the Watters Creek district with two office buildings and the Watters Creek Convention Center opening by January 2019. Last year, the AEDC announced The Strand, a 135-acre mixed use project with corporate campuses on State Highway 121; the relocation of 540 employees with NETSCOUT, a cybersecurity firm; and a data center project that will bring more than $1 billion in investment. The future focus of the AEDC’s efforts will be on the 121 Corridor, where more than 800 acres are available for high-end, urban-style mixed-use developments

Since its creation by voters in 1992, the Allen Economic Development Corporation (AEDC) has been committed to enriching the lives of Allen’s residents. The organization achieves its mission of bringing jobs and investment to the community by recruiting businesses and assisting development of quality commercial space. These efforts have been highly successful: far from being the suburban bedroom community it once was, Allen has grown to become one of the most vibrant cities in the nation, recently recognized as the #2 Best Place to Live by MONEY Magazine. The AEDC has helped create many of the amenities that contribute to Allen’s superior quality of life, including the Allen Premium Outlets, Watters Creek 16 I

and corporate campuses that will further enhance Allen’s employment base, tax base and image in the region. The AEDC’s dedicated staff provides a full menu of services to help spur new growth, including site selection assistance and property search, incentives and assistance with state programs, marketing the city to outside audiences, and providing customized research and reports. These services are available to both new and existing businesses that are small or large, young or old. To find out more about what the AEDC can do for you, visit AllenEDC.com.

schools, coupled with open spaces and friendly neighborhoods, is just part of what makes Fairview special. Known for its breathtaking view, the community is adjacent to the 289acre Heard Wildlife Sanctuary which includes more than six miles of nature trails winding through tall grass prairie, bottomland hardwood and limestone escarpment habitats. The community also boasts six community parks, walking trails, numerous horse farms, and upscale neighborhoods with large lots and acreages. Next to Fairview Town Hall is Veterans Park, and the community is also home to Heritage Ranch Golf and Country Club featuring a top-rated championship golf course designed by Arthur Hills.

The low-density housing with easy access to amenities and excellent schools, coupled with open spaces and friendly neighborhoods, is just part of what makes Fairview special. Like Allen, Fairview’s development has been well planned throughout the years. An example is that traffic generally goes around neighborhoods rather than through them, giving residents safe and quiet streets. Darion Culbertson, Fairview Mayor, points out that the lowdensity housing is also by design, and is part of what makes Fairview special. “Fairview is a hidden gem in north Texas," Culbertson says. "The whole atmosphere here is very serene and tranquil, and I think that’s due in part to the large lots and smaller subdivisions.” Maintaining its beautiful natural skyline is important to the community. Progressive development standards and environmental protections help

keep it the way residents like it. For example, Fairview has a “dark skies” lighting ordinance that allows residents to enjoy unobstructed views of the Texas night sky, and to stay true to that, Fairview was the first community in Texas to build a street lit entirely by LED streetlights. Fairview offers the full package with restaurants, retail and entertainment venues populating Fairview Town Center, an open-air lifestyle center. The community also combines the best of economic development with the best of quality country living. Centralizing commercial development is an intentional approach for Fairview. The Town Council carefully

evaluates businesses considering opening a location in Fairview to ensure that new businesses will benefit residents and complement the community’s image. This approach helps the community maintain its character and quality of life while still increasing the services and amenities available to residents. Fairview’s approach to development

makes the transition between residential and commercial nearly seamless. And according to Culbertson, that is what makes Fairview work. “We want to maintain what we’ve built here and add developments that will work with what we already have in place.” With a variety of housing choices, outstanding school districts, excellent parks systems and wealth of shopping, dining and entertainment options, it’s easy to see why Allen and Fairview are great places to settle down. In fact, whether you choose Allen or Fairview to put down roots, you can be certain it will soon feel like home. Once you’re here, we’re sure you’ll wonder why you didn’t come sooner.

My Community Credit Union is coming to Allen, TX at the end of 2018! MCCU has been a staple financial institution in West Texas for over 65 years, serving Midland and Ector counties. The credit union is excited to expand their organization into Collin County.

community,” said President & CEO, Donna Neal. “We work in partnership with Midland and Ector County school districts to provide financial education to students through different curricula at the middle and high school levels. We look forward to implementing this same model with Allen ISD.” MCCU offers budget and finance programs to elementary & middle school children at no cost to the school. Last year, they partnered with the Cornerstone Credit Union Foundation to host a Biz Kid$ contest; the students drew up their own business plan and made a formal presentation to parents, faculty and MCCU representatives. “They went on to regional contests in Texas and Oklahoma, with prizes and recognition. It was a huge success, and the students really enjoyed it!” Donna said. At the high school level, MCCU presents Reality Fairs, an interactive program that lets students experience what happens after high school from a financial perspective.

MCCU is proud to serve the community by helping the men and women who make it great. Their passion is to make every member’s and future member’s story a financial success story. They accomplish this by focusing on financial education at all levels throughout the community. “We pride ourselves on service, community involvement, & financial education opportunities within our

“They learn about earning and saving and get a realistic glimpse of what they’re able to afford,” Donna said. My Community Credit Union also offers seminars throughout the community on budgeting, maintaining credit scores and understanding loan products. “Some of the seminars are geared toward investing in IRAs and 401 Ks. It’s a chance for community members to be educated on different opportunities to make their money work for them,” Donna said. MCCU is intentional in its efforts to support the communities in which it serves. The credit union helped raise more than $50,000 this year for CASA of West Texas. “We are proud of the efforts we have made and the lives we have touched,” Donna said. MCCU also partners with Children’s Miracle Network, Crime Stoppers, Junior Achievement and various other organizations each year. “As a credit union, we’re different from larger financial organizations,” Donna said. “We’re local; we care about the community.”

A credit union is a not-for-profit organization that does not have a governing board made up of outside interests, but a board of directors made up of and elected by their fellow credit union members. “Those who serve on the board don’t receive any compensation,” Donna said. “Our earnings go back to the credit union membership. MCCU is able to offer lower interest rates on many loan products. “For example, our auto loans are a lot lower than is typical with larger banks and financial institutions,” she said. My Community Credit Union keeps in mind the habits of a younger generation and stays current with the latest and greatest technology. “You can access your account, open an

account and apply for a loan from your mobile device,” Donna said. “However, we have an option for all audiences, including those who enjoy the ambience of coming in and speaking to an individual.” MCCU offers many financial services including checking, savings, IRAs and CDs. Through Kasasa, they also offer three different types rewards: Kasasa Cash Back, Kasasa Saver and Kasasa ITunes. “We offer accounts with reward benefits that no other financial institution in Collin County is currently offering,” Donna said. “We also offer a credit card with a fabulous low-interest rate, and we

we recently introduced our rewards credit card with fabulous reward benefits.” My Community Credit Union has been part of the Midland community since 1952. On June 1, 2008, Permian Basin Credit Union in Odessa joined the MCCU family, bringing additional members and providing a branch location in Odessa. My Community now has over 29,000 members with 6 locations in West Texas and the newest location coming soon in Allen, TX. Today, MCCU serves anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Ector, Midland, or Collin County.

MILLENNIAL WORKFORCE

In order for communities to attract the best and brightest, they must have more in place than a strong job market. Luckily, Allen and Fairview have plenty to offer, and are proving to be just the kind of places where Millennials are putting down roots.

hen it comes to launching a career, location matters, and if you want to reach your full potential, choosing the right zip code is crucial. It can shape the types of professional opportunities available, the frequency those opportunities are offered, and the salaries the workforce can demand. That’s all good news for Allen, as the community has the professional opportunities for which grads are clamoring plus plenty of room for growth. In fact, MONEY just ranked the city #2 in its list of the "Best Places in the U.S. to Launch a Career." MONEY went through their “Best Places to Live” database, where Allen was also ranked #2, and identified top spots in the U.S. that offer the best blend of affordability and strong economic performance. MONEY editors incorporated several factors 22 I

in the ranking such as cost-ofliving metrics, local amenity counts (including bars, restaurants, and other attractions that would appeal to young professionals), as well as things like commute time. They also gave weight to factors like job growth, economic opportunity, and unemployment rates to ensure their selections were places that were primed to propel professional success. This news matters to recent graduates and Millennials entering the workforce. Currently, more than one-in-three American workers are Millennials (adults ages 18 to 34), and they have surpassed Generation X to become the largest share of the American workforce, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of U.S. Census Bureau data. It is also estimated that by 2020, nearly half (46%) of all U.S. allen fair viewcham b e r.co m

workers will be Millennials. As the Millennial generation streams into the workforce, they are looking for a place where they can make their mark and both Allen and Fairview are welcoming them with open arms. ATTRACTING TOP TALENT In today’s global economy, hiring top talent is imperative, and for communities to attract the best and brightest to their workforce, they must offer more than just jobs. In fact, while every generation seeks a healthy work-life balance, it's Millennials who most demand it. Luckily, Allen and Fairview hold broad appeal for Millennial job seekers, with a lower cost of living than coastal job meccas, and the greater Dallas – Fort Worth metro also boasts unlimited lifestyle options, and connections to anywhere in the world.

MILLENNIAL

Add to that the variety of housing choices and the region’s outstanding school districts, excellent parks system and wealth of shopping, dining and entertainment options and it’s easy to see why Allen and Fairview are just the kind of places that Millennials are looking at to put down roots. Allen neighborhoods offer options for a wide variety of homeowner tastes. The housing market includes homes in established neighborhoods, homes on acreages and newly constructed homes. Because of the area’s recent growth many of the region’s homes are relatively new construction – 48% of Allen’s housing stock was built in the last 15 years. In 2016, Allen was named by WalletHub.com as a top location for first-time home buyers, scoring high in affordability. SMALL TOWN VALUES – BIG CITY NEIGHBORS Allen and Fairview’s proximity to the Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex – and the conveniences, perks and cultural amenities that the fourth largest metropolitan area in the country can offer – works well for those just jumping into their full time professional lives. While the region is home to nearly seven million residents and cranks out the sixth largest gross metropolitan product in the U.S., a unique quality for residents of Allen and Fairview is that they can enjoy the friendly atmosphere and slower pace of smaller community living and still have easy access to the benefits of their big city neighbors. Being part of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex means access to some of the nation’s best job opportunities, but residents don’t have to travel from their homes in Allen and Fairview to make a good living. Dallas is now among the top five fastest growing job markets

in the U. S. In addition, more companies – large and small – are discovering the wealth of quality talent that resides in the area. Allen is expected to experience a projected job growth of 16.3%, considerably higher than the national average projections of 5.9%. Allen and Fairview are also much more than nice suburban locations for commuters. The City of Allen is actively working to be the place where Millennials want to live, work, and play, and is focused on building economic opportunities within its borders. As a result, Allen saw $1.6 billion of development breaking ground in 2017 alone. A number of tech and cybersecurity companies have committed to the area, bringing with them hundreds of jobs. Data company CyrusOne recently purchased 66 acres of land to support an expected $1 billion data campus in the coming years. Millennials find mixedused growth (which combines commercial and residential living) highly appealing, and in addition to a $91 million convention center and hotel complex set to open this year, international real estate firm Hines recently announced plans for The Strand, a 135-acre mixed-use development that will bring office space, retail outlets, residential options, and a greenbelt and waterway. Fairview is also quietly appealing, and since 2000, has had a population growth of 442.99 percent. Today, those who call the community home love its idyllic setting, complete with rolling hills and natural creeks. It’s a definite counterbalance to the big, busy, growing, cosmopolitan Dallas – Fort Worth Metroplex, and offers young professionals a slower pace, with easy access. The award-winning

schools and high quality of life are the top reasons many choose to settle in Fairview, and the town is proving popular with families, professionals and retirees alike. Bottom line, the faces of Allen and Fairview are relatively young. The median age of Allen’s population is 35 years old, and in Fairview the median age is 52. With a long list of accolades for being great places to live, work, and raise a family, its palpable friendliness and welldocumented sense of community, it is no wonder that young professionals are choosing Allen and Fairview as the place to launch the next chapter of their lives. While in some cities, it can be a struggle for a young professional to break through, in Allen and Fairview the message to Millennials is clear, “Welcome. We're glad you're here.”

Access to quality education also builds a strong workforce, a strong community, and shapes the world in which we live. Families seeking a private education have their choice of 90 private schools in Collin County and Allen and Fairview offer residents top-notch public schools. The Allen Independent School District serves the City of Allen as well as portions of Parker and McKinney. Student enrollments have risen steadily with 21,000 students in grades kindergarten through 12, and the district offers 18 elementary

schools, three middle schools, the Lowery Freshman Center and Allen High School. Parents have high expectations and Allen ISD meets those with results. Students consistently score above state and area district averages, and the district maintains a 97.3 percent graduation rate with 80 percent of graduates moving on to post-high school educational opportunities. The district also enjoys a long-standing partnership with the City of Allen. Together they have combined school and park properties and share facilities for recreation and social activities. In Fairview, students are served by the Lovejoy Independent

School District and the McKinney Independent School District. Lovejoy ISD is home to more than 4,000 students and consists of three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school. Known for its award-winning academic, fine arts, and athletic programs, Lovejoy consistently receives state and national recognitions for postsecondary readiness. It was most recently recognized as one of the “Top 500 Schools in the United States” by U.S. News & World Report in 20122016, with a 2017 ranking of 283 out of more than 22,000 public high schools. After graduation, many students go on to Collin College to take advantage of the numerous programs available. The college is a valuable community partner to business, government and industry, and through its Workforce Development programs, provides customized training to help meet the business community’s needs. Bottom line, education is a definite perk of living in Allen and Fairview. Residents of both communities understand the value that strong school districts provide to the community, and the region’s schools more than deliver.

COLLIN COLLEGE Local residents will soon benefit from several partnerships that have formed between Collin College, the Allen ISD, and the City of Allen. The Collin Technical Campus is scheduled to open in 2020 near the northeast corner of Exchange Parkway and Ridgeview Drive in Allen. The 340,000 square-foot campus will offer advanced manufacturing, aviation technology, construction, health sciences, and logistics and transportation, in addition to general education courses. Allen ISD contributed $12 million toward the project, in part to house dual credit programs for Allen High School students.

The City of Allen contributed $4.6 million toward Collin College’s new Public Safety Training Center in McKinney. The center houses the college’s law enforcement and fire academies, and serves as a professional development training center for the Allen Police Department and other emergency responders. Collin College enrolls more than 53,000 students annually at eight campuses and centers, with five more (including the technical campus) in the planning stages. Students can choose from more than 100 degree and certificate programs while paying the lowest tuition in the state of Texas. Evening classes, Weekend College and online courses offer flexibility in scheduling. The preadmission program offers a pathway to four-year studies at 10 area universities and, through a partnership with five of those institutions, area residents can complete junior and senior level college coursework or pursue master’s degrees or doctoral programs entirely at the Collin Higher Education Center in McKinney.

The college also offers continuing adult education, including non-degree career training, workforce training, and personal enrichment courses, as well as customized business training though the Collin Corporate College. good schools, stable jobs, and safe neighborhoods – all foundational to achieving long and healthy lives. The City Parks and Recreation Department also hosts a number programs to support and promote healthy and active lifestyles, all designed to engage, encourage and enable all residents to increase physical fitness, expand recreational activities, and develop lifelong exercise habits. In Fairview, the city has a commitment to create and maintain areas of open green space, and with three parks, and the lovely, meandering Roadrunner Trail, residents have plenty of outdoor options to choose from. If golfing is the way you like to spend your time in the sun, Fairview’s Heritage Ranch Golf & Country Club can’t be beat. The championship public course was designed by one of the

nation’s leading golf course architects, Arthur Hills, and is exceptionally scenic, surrounded by lush landscaping. If you’re in Allen, tee time at The Golf Club at Twin Creeks is the place to be. Its award-winning 18-hole championship course was designed by Arnold Palmer, and provides golfers a peaceful, scenic course with tree-lined creeks. And last but definitely not least are The Courses at Watters Creek. Here you will find a 33-hole golf course and a 9-hole Foot Golf course (played with a soccer ball). RICH HISTORY History buffs have great options too and can get a historical look at the community with a fun driving tour through the area. The Allen Heritage Guild Driving Tour highlights 15 stops of historic significance around town, and the sites include historic homes

and numerous locations that have shaped the area’s history. BEAT THE HEAT In Allen and Fairview, there’s no shortage of family fun options and one year-round favorite activity is Allen Community Ice Rink. Here, the whole family can lace up some skates and take to the ice. If you’re a little shaky on the blades, no worries! The full-size rink offers programs and classes to help you learn the basics and lessons on figure skating and hockey as well. The rink rental availability makes it a favorite go-to for private parties and other events. When you look at all that Allen and Fairview have to offer, you can see why there is no reason for residents to go into larger cities for a day of fun or night on the town. In fact, there are plenty of reasons to stay and play close to home!

ALLEN FAIRVIEW

CHAMBER OF COMMERCE LETTER FROM 2017

PAST-CHAIRMAN What a privilege it was to serve as the 2017 Allen Fairview Chamber Board Chair. Our board and staff accomplished so much, and it was a pleasure to be a part of it. First and foremost, we achieved a Four-Star rating by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the first in our history. The efforts were initiated by my predecessor, Tim Kaiser, and I enjoyed leading the effort to the finish line. Many staff and volunteer hours went into this honor. Our Business Advocacy Committee was revitalized under Drs. Jennifer Blalock and Carey Patrick. They have engaged members of the business and legislative community so that we have a greater voice in representing our members in areas that matter to them. With a strong and enthusiastic staff in place, the chamber experienced one of our best years ever of recruiting new members, and successful events throughout the year. I am proud of all that we accomplished together, and I look forward to our bright future. Jill Hawkins 2017 Chairman of the Board

NOTE FROM

2018 CHAIRMAN I am honored to have been selected to serve as the 2018 Chair of the Allen Fairview Chamber Board of Directors. The year 2017 was a banner year for the Chamber as we earned the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s Four-Star accreditation. While we cannot reapply for five more years, we are already working on the process to make sure that 2022 brings us the coveted five-star accreditation. Our goal is to become the go to organization to make things happen in the Allen Fairview area aligns perfectly with our five-star mission. We intend to engage with our local governments, economic development corporations and other community organizations to make sure that the Allen Fairview area remains a beacon of business success in Collin County. Allen Fairview Chamber AWARDED FOUR-STAR ACCREDITATION by U.S. Chamber of Commerce Good news! The Allen Fairview Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that after a comprehensive self-review, the U.S. Chamber of Commerce has awarded us with Four-Star Accreditation. This prestigious honor puts us among the top 3% of chambers nationwide. This past year, the staff, board, and volunteers of the Allen Fairview Chamber spent countless hours completing the Accreditation process. Our task: Demonstrate competency in nine core areas ranging from finance to facilities. The result of our hard-work is evidenced by this impressive rating. But in truth, we should all be extraordinarily proud of this milestone achievement. It was a true team effort. The only national program recognizing chambers for their effective organizational procedures and community involvement, Accreditation allows us to renew, improve, and promote sound business practices, policies, and procedures. Local chambers are rated Accredited, 3-Stars, 4-Stars, or 5-Stars. State chambers are recognized as either Accredited State Chamber or Accredited State Chamber with Distinction. The final determination is made by the Accrediting Board, a committee of U.S. Chamber board members and chamber executives from across the country.
