he Executive Leadership Roundtable (ELR) Program is designed to develop local leaders, by expanding their knowledge of the vast resources within the Corona region. By committing one day a month for 10 months, participants experience a unique ‘behind the

Through collaboration and innovation, participants will conceptualize, design, and implement a Community Impact Project as their class signature. The ELR class of 2022 unveiled the Pathway of Hope and Healing—a row of engraved benches and trees at Santana Park, intended to bring awareness, hope and healing to those impacted by Fentanyl overdoses. The

ELR class of 2021 hosted the ELR Limitless Youth Conference, which was created to support foster youth aging out of care homes. The conference helped prepare them for the transition through networking, inspirational stories, and grants. There have been so many incredible projects through the past 40 years, but the best part is that accepted participants will take this journey with 20-25 other leaders that vary in career paths, personalities, backgrounds, beliefs, and skill sets. If you are a current or impending leader in business, government, non-profit, education or any other public or private sector who wants to learn, grow, expand your knowledge, expand your network, and have fun, then we encourage you to apply! Deadline for submitting your application is July 22, 2022.

he CORONA Chamber extends congratulations and best wishes to Stephanie Shapiro on the next chapter in life! Stephanie will be departing from our Chamber and leaving California for her new home in Tennessee. We couldn’t be prouder of her accomplishments. This move is sure to bring mixed emotions, although we are very supportive of her move. Stephanie will be accomplishing ‘an American Dream’ by owning her own home! Stephanie serves as Vice President for the CORONA Chamber and is responsible for Communications and Events. To say she mastered those areas would be an understatement. Her attention to detail, and the understanding of each sector within her responsibilities has proven to benefit our organization. During the past decade-plus of service, Stephanie has worked all aspects of the organization. In 2022, the CORONA Chamber was honored to receive the top award for overall communications among all Chambers within the W.A.C.E. (Western Association of Chamber Executives) organization. fter many years of hard work and multiple requests, the Prado Dam Mural will again display its iconic image of the ‘largest’ patriotic billboard. This mural was painted in coordination with students from Corona High School (1976) and with guidance from the school’s Activities Director, David DiPaolo along with classmates and mural designers Ron Kammeyer and Perry Schaefer. This mural is especially meaningful to many people in the greater Corona area. For Supervisor Karen Spiegel, the mural was initially designed and painted when her mother-in-law, Flora Spiegel, was Mayor of Corona (during America’s Bicentennial). Supervisor Spiegel and the Riverside County Flood Control and Water Conservation District are

committed to working with federal and local partners to have the mural restored. Congressman Ken Calvert has secured $2.5 million in federal dollars to remove the leadbased paint on the spillway with the goal of clearing the way for repainting the mural. There are many people to thank, and we want to begin with Supervisor Spiegel, Congressman Calvert, and Col. Julie Balten of the Army Corps of Engineers, as well as numerous other agencies and groups for working together on this project. As we hear more about this news, we will bring it to you. We look forward to once again seeing the mural that has served as a source of pride and a unifying symbol for the region, visible by tens of thousands who travel the 91 and 71 Freeways.

ocusing on our Core Competencies, the CORONA Chamber continues to seek ways to improve. Recently the CORONA Chamber engaged Loyalty Zone, a third-party company, that contacted randomly selected member firms to connect. Their intention was to find out what the CORONA Chamber is doing right, what expectations have not been met, and how the CORONA Chamber can position itself for the future. Realizing that the largest interruption of business happened two years ago through COVID, and today, the business community is still experiencing repercussions of a weakened workforce. Businesses are now offering additional compensation (as rising costs of gas and general goods are increasing rapidly). I am hearing from many businesses that there seems to be a standoff from individual workers to perform their duties. Internationally, we hear of workforce stoppage and a “NEW resignation” movement, where employees are demanding to work remotely, for less hours a day, and limited days per week.

Entrepreneurship is difficult, yet very rewarding, and with time, we can navigate towards success. I strongly believe in rewarding individuals who rise to the occasion. We have seen numerous ‘local heroes’

reinvented themselves, and continue to do so daily. That is the spirit of the entrepreneur. We are fortunate to have numerous innovative-forward thinking entrepreneurs who seek to improve and expand their operations. Chamber Delegation Adopts Stance Following Capitol Summit in Sacramento

Good Morning, CORONA FRI, AUG 19

BACKGROUND

Honoring

Today, Inland Empire employers are facing the highest rate of inflation, one of the lowest labor participation rates, and some of the highest tax and regulatory burdens in the nation. According to polling, 86% of California residents perceive that it is extremely hard to live as a middle-class person in their community. Creating career-building jobs is the only proven strategy to create widespread prosperity by expanding the middle class and providing social mobility to all demographic groups. It is time for our legislators and elected officials at all levels to: Support common-sense legislation to protect businesses and neighborhoods from crime. All thefts are crimes and organized theft is a serious felony in 40+ states. Organized retail theft, often known as smash and grab, is decimating California’s shopping areas. It destroys businesses, jobs, and vital services throughout the state. Support common-sense delays in enacting new state and local policies that are known to further increase supply chain costs for food, energy, and transportation. Over 78% of California communities support severe shortages in

baby formula, among other historic supply chain disruptions. This is at a time when thousands of regulations are scheduled to be enacted and they are known to have a negative impact on labor costs, energy costs, and supply chain expenses. Stop tying critical reform of ‘double jeopardy’ environmental regulation to mandatory labor cost increases. California is the proud home to one of the cleanest environments in the world. Clearly, there is a recognition in Sacramento that streamlining reforms is effective and necessary. Legislation and regulations are tying those reform efforts to substantially increased labor and supply costs. Reform must be considered and implemented individually and as quickly as possible. California is in the midst of a historic drought and in the last 18 months has lost over 1 million individuals who were net taxpayers to other states. While many of the ingredients of California’s enduring success are still here in the Golden State, our elected leaders must work together, across all levels of government, to allow employers to wisely expand career-building opportunities and restore the economic strength and social mobility that make the California Dream a beacon for so many.

an environment where the Governor himself came down with Covid and had to cancel his participation, had more elected officials and tax experts sit with us and explain the direction of policy, than in any other year! We are seeing great progress every week with the committee and your commitment makes that possible. The Legislative Action Committee meets every Wednesday on Zoom at 10:00 AM. For more information contact the Chamber for details.

CORONA Remembers 9/11 PREPARING FOR 21ST ANNIVERSARY EVENT

I

believe everyone old enough, remembers exactly where they were on 9/11/ 2001, when the largest terrorist attack on US soil hit! It seems so vivid yet was 21 years ago. The CORONA Chamber, in partnership with the City of Corona, and ABC Hopes, will be hosting the community 9/11 Remembrance event. There are plans being discussed as of this writing, and we welcome you to inquire where you can best fit in.

We are seeking volunteers and sponsors for this program. The events will begin on Thursday, September 8, as we map out the lines for placing our 2,977 American Flags, each with the name of one the people who were killed. Our plan is to light up the area, and stand watch from setup until Tuesday, September 13, when we remove the flags. Those interested, please visit: bit.ly/CoronaRemembers911.

Robot-Assisted Bariatric Surgery Leslie Conyers needed to have spinal fusion surgery, but her doctor advised her to lose weight in order for it to have any chance of success. Conyers chose Corona Regional Medical Center.

“When Dr. Nouri performed the da Vinci® robotic bariatric surgery, I was able to lose enough weight to have my spinal fusion in August 2021, and I can now walk without a walker. I can finally sleep at night. I am now at a healthy weight and, clearly, the weight loss made all the difference in my fusion surgery recovery.” – Leslie Conyers

Sarvenaz Nouri, MD, is a bariatric surgeon who specializes in robotic-assisted laparoscopic surgeries (vertical sleeve gastrectomy, Roux-en-Y gastric bypass, bilio-pancreatic diversion with duodenal switch), hiatal hernia repair and foregut surgeries.
