n 1976, the United States celebrated its 200th anniversary. In the same year, Joan Barnes, a mother living not far from San Francisco was looking for a safe, fun place that would offer age appropriate activities for young children. Her search was unsuccessful so she did what entrepreneurs do and started her own business. Now 40 years later, Gymboree Play & Music is a global leader in parent and child programs for infants to 5 year-olds, with 700 locations in over 40 countries. One major improvement that is needed is a new, enlarged and improved Cajalco Bridge over the 91 freeway. The City estimates it will take up to 20 years to get State and Federal funding sufficient to complete the project, with an estimated cost of $90 million.
