It may seem more financially responsible to buy a trendy $5 shirt than a basic $30 shirt—but only if you ignore the quality factor! When deciding if the latest tech toy, kitchen gadget, or apparel item is worth it, factor in how many times you’ll use it or wear it. For that matter, you can even consider cost per hour for experiences! Submitted by: Cecilia Bolbolian, Latino Market Manager for New York Life. For more information, call 909-631-9960

The Dual Enrollment Program provides ERHS students the opportunity to take college classes on campus to earn college and high school credit. Starting in the 20172018 school year, ERHS will be offer-
ing college classes in Math, Business, 3D Modeling/Game Design, English, Trigonometry, English 1A, and Business Law. There are many benefits

The program places an emphasis on College and Career Readiness, Career Technical Education, and transfer pathways. It is intended to reach broader range of students, not just highly gifted or advanced scholastic or vocational work. It also provides a smoother transition from high school to college. Recognizing those behind the scenes, lanes and construction T
he CORONA Chamber Executive team took the opportunity at O-dark-thirty in late March to say thank you to the numerous construction workers who worked on the 91 freeway expansion project. Flocked by some 300+ workers, Chamber CEO and President, Bobby Spiegel addressed the group thanking them for their efforts. Noticing one worker had brought their pre-teen child that morning, Spiegel acknowledged the impact the freeway improvements will have on children like that young man. Children will be able to have their parents home earlier. He emphasized that might help get dad or mom to the ball practice, or perhaps enabling the family to enjoy dinner together. Other speakers were Anne Mayer of RCTC, the governing agency that lead
the ‘drive’ for this expansion project. Also speaking was Tim Stroud, project manager overseeing the construction for Atkinson / Walsh, JV (the firm who constructed the freeway). This project was the largest transportation effort this side of the Mississippi. Most projects take several years to complete, but as Anne Mayer stated, “promises made, promises kept!” referring to RCTC’s motto and goal upon taking on projects. Unique in nature, the Chamber Executive team felt emotional as they personally handed out certificates with each worker’s name printed within the document. The Chamber received the following note from by Anne Mayer, “It was really touching to see the workers receive their certificates and a handshake from the Chamber.”

NASA/SBDC cont’d model to spur economic development. This took place on April 17. This partnership will help facilitate the technology transfer and commercialization of NASA technologies into the Southern California region. The agreement enables TriTech SBDC to assist businesses to expand and open new avenues for creating jobs. The agreement is unique because it is the first time NASA is partnering with a community college system, and using multiple NASA commercialization programs. It gives TriTech SBDC the authority to be a liaison for licensing NASA research and development technologies to
develop businesses and high-wage jobs in the counties of Los Angeles, Orange, Riverside, San Bernardino and San Diego. TriTech will model new technology-driven economic development strategies and models, and will assist in replicating the models nationwide. TriTech signed a similar business development agreement leading to licensing of Navy technologies with the U.S. Navy through the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Corona Division. The Partnership Intermediary Agreement with the Navy was a model for NASA to develop a similar collaboration agreement with combined research and development technology portfolios under TriTech SBDC.

ONE Person Making a Difference
CORONA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE PRESENTS
I
t is often said, “One person CAN make a difference.” This statement describes Marlene Weyhgandt (wife of the Corona Chamber’s ChairElect John Weyhgandt) whose determination to “Get the job done,” brings holiday joy. In December, 2016, Marlene became aware of local efforts to repurpose empty toilet paper rolls into candy rolls. For over 10 years, groups have gathered annually around Christmas time and created these treats for children in their communities. She felt this was something we could do in our communities as well and she began saving the cardboard rolls. Others contributed and Marlene said, “I was given two huge bins full of empty toilet paper rolls.” Others became inspired to participate. Donations poured in, candy, trinkets/toys, wrapping paper, curling ribbon, empty toilet paper rolls and their time. With Christmas approaching, in just a little over two weeks, a team of motivated women was able to put together 250 rolls filled with goodies for the children of Coronita Elementary. One of the teachers had shared that when one of the boys in her kindergarten class had opened it up, he threw his hands up in the air and said “this was the best day ever!” This brought a huge smile to Marlene’s heart. After the Christmas candy rolls, Marlene and her supporters continued saving and collecting empty

Masquerade rolls. Having enjoyed bringing a little joy to children, ‘operation collection’ began. Marlene relates, “I would sometimes come home and there’d be a bag of rolls hanging on my doorknob.” Her troops gathered again and for Easter 2017, were able to put together nearly 600 rolls to bless the children at the YMCA of Corona-Norco and the kindergarteners of Coronita Elementary. They are not stopping and have expanded to saving empty paper towel rolls. Marlene explains, “We can put together rolls for back to school, with pencils, supplies and other goodies.” That work starts in July. Treating the boys and girls of our community is going to continue, with plans already made for another Christmas roll distribution. “I must say, this was a total team effort! I am truly grateful to God for bringing us all together to serve Him by serving His precious children in our community! We were truly blessed to be able to do this!” states Marlene and adds, “Please save your toilet paper towel rolls!” You may reach her at (951) 415-9681.
