orona is sought after by residents seeking an exceptional and sustainable quality of life. Its competitive cost of living, flourishing economy and excellent schools draw new residents at an ever increasing rate. Since 2000, the population has increased 24 percent. “This area is bursting at the seams. There are at least 12 housing projects coming along the corridor,” says Yolanda Carrillo, CEO, Corona-Norco Family YMCA, and chairman-elect of the Corona Chamber of Commerce. Corona’s commitment to support business and employment in an inviting, family-friendly environment is second to none. The city welcomes new employers, and its economy is highly diversified. Its pro-business climate, transportation

accessibility, established infrastructure, and highly skilled workforce make it a premier location for new and expanding employers. In fact, 766,203 square feet of industrial space is currently under construction. Maintaining momentum requires tireless support be given to residents and commercial partners. Together the Corona Chamber of Commerce and the City are creating new business opportunities and addressing the needs of this fast growing community. “Key to that support is a strong transportation system—a network of roads that offers efficient, modern mobility,” says Bobby Spiegel, president and CEO of the Corona Chamber “Recent improvements to area highways and streets have eased the strain of daily travel.” In 2017, a major project added regular lanes, tolled express lanes, auxiliary lanes, and direct express lane connectors from eastbound SR-91 to southbound I-15 and northbound I-15 to westbound SR-91. Work has already begun on a new bridge at the Cajalco Road/I-15 interchange. Yet there is room for further improvements. With 280,000 vehicles traveling SR-91 daily, enhanced roadways benefit the city and region. 10 I

To meet the needs of Corona, the Chamber of Commerce has launched Corona 2020, a strategic initiative to reduce traffic congestion. “It’s a cooperation between the City, businesses and the Chamber,” says Dean Seif, owner of CARSTAR Allstar Collision, and chair of the Chamber’s Legislative Action Committee. “It’s a short term plan for improvement of Corona and our region.” Advanced by state requirements to create community developmental plans beginning in 2022, Corona 2020 brings local opportunities to the forefront. Chief among these is the goal to eliminate 1 million hours of traffic from local roads and the SR-91/I-15 corridor. The strategy defines an approach to lowering the number of automobile trips and miles traveled by residents. “We need to do something to alleviate that traffic,” says Kimberly Davidson, economic development manager, City of Corona. “It speaks to a quality of life issue.” Initiated in 2017, Corona 2020 was presented at the annual Sacrament Summit last June. CORONA 2020 BRINGS LOCAL OPPORTUNITIES TO THE FOREFRONT. CHIEF AMONG THESE IS THE GOAL TO ELIMINATE 1 MILLION HOURS OF TRAFFIC FROM LOCAL ROADS AND THE SR-91/I-15 CORRIDOR. City leaders, along with Chamber representatives, met with leaders of CalTrans. Central to the meeting was a focus on local opportunities and a direction for resolution. Following the conference, a strategy was finalized to address traffic issues and infrastructure requirements. The plan provides an apparatus for employers and city government as partners to work to meet community needs. In September, an outline of the framework was communicated to the Department of Commerce in Washington. “It’s a smarter way to understand what we’re working toward. Now, once we size it up, we’ll be better off,” Carrillo says. The Corona 2020 strategy provides a three-part formula to improve traffic congestion: Employment Growth, Expanded Healthcare, and Infrastructure Improvement. Statistics have been collected and examined to track growth and development. The outcome will provide for better policy decisions, better measurements and better community partnerships. “You have to understand the past and understand the future so you can plan for it,” says Carrillo.

The Corona 2020 partnership is working with employers to develop and attract 7,000 local jobs, keeping employees in Corona and off highways. “We’ve been measuring employment and we’re asking companies to report their new hires. Those new jobs will help us reduce the hours employees spend in traffic,” Seif says.

These enhancements are key to improving traffic flow and reducing congestion. “Regional and intra-county connections are important to easing current congestion. There are a lot of projects going on,” says Talbert. 1,500+ JOBS SAVED
The CORONA Chamber has worked tirelessly to keep jobs in CORONA. We are key players in saving the jobs at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, CORONA Division, as well as March Air Reserve Base. Monster kept their business in CORONA due in large part to their relationship with the Chamber. New jobs have also been created with help from the chamber, introducing businesses to CORONA.
Dollars raised in additional economic revenue, totaling more than $500,000 for local charities and families in need in the greater CORONA area. Many local restaurants participated in Chamber “Dine Outs”, increasing their revenue while providing funds for their community. Chamber outreach in first two months of 2018 saw over $200,000 for the Magnificent 13.

CHAIRMAN’S CIRCLE
T
he Chairman’s Circle consists of members who contribute $120 or more above their annual membership investment. This allows the Chamber office to stay up-to-date with the most effective technology available, such as software upgrades and enhanced website capabilities. These monies are also allocated for capital improvements and enable us to keep our membership dues as low as possible. Without these faithful donors, our membership rates would increase substantially. In prior years we have used these funds for carpeting, an air conditioner, new roof, desks, computers, a computer server, chairs, office remodel, and flood damage repair. In 2018 we utilized $18,000 in repairing our sewer line connection.

WHY CORONA?
EASY. OUR SCHOOLS. Strong schools build strong communities, and here in Corona, ours provide a quality education that prepares our students, regardless of background, for success in college, career and life. We build scholars who are high-achieving, critical thinkers equipped to succeed in an ever-changing world. Our education system is one of our area’s greatest assets. Two outstanding school districts foster educational excellence through comprehensive programs from preschool to ongoing job training. Alvord Unified School District (AUSD) serves the western portion of the City of Riverside, the eastern portion of the City of Corona, and segments of unincorporated parts of Riverside County. The district encompasses 14 elementary schools, four traditional middle schools, three comprehensive high schools, and two continuation high schools with an adult education program. With a mission to ensure “All students will realize their unlimited potential,” AUSD provides every child with rigorous, enriching educational opportunities from preschool through high school graduation. 24 I
CORONA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE - THE GUIDE
As a learning organization committed to addressing the unique needs of each student, Alvord is proud to offer and grow a number of programs such as Dual Language Immersion (DLI), International Baccalaureate (IB), Project Lead The Way (PLTW), Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID), Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM), Alliance for a Healthier Generation, and a music program beginning with instrumental music in the elementary grades. Each program is taught by dedicated, highly qualified teachers. Equally as dedicated to student-centric learning is Corona-Norco Unified School District (CNUSD). Its 50 schools serve more than 53,000 students in the diverse communities of Corona, Norco, and Eastvale. As such, CNUSD is the largest school district in the Riverside and San Bernardino counties and the ninth largest district in California. The recipient of multiple accolades, Corona-Norco Unified School District offers students an unparalleled opportunity for educational growth. In consecutive years, the district was named a Broad Prize I
MyChamb er.org
finalist, which honors urban school districts nationally that demonstrate the greatest overall performance and improvement in student achievement. In addition, CNUSD received the 2016 Inland Empire Top Workplaces Award from The Press-Enterprise, and eight schools have been recognized by the California Distinguished Schools Program, a yearly award honoring the state’s most exemplary and inspiring public schools. In addition, three schools have been acknowledged by the California School Board Association with Golden Bell awards. This recognition highlights best practices in education in all areas of operations, instruction and support services. These honors reflect the district’s dedication to academic excellence and superior student engagement. Of the 15 largest school districts in California, none have reached the performance level of CNUSD. The district surpasses the state’s Academic Performance Index (API) goal of 800 with a score of 814. With a scale of 200 to 1000, API measures the academic growth or progress of schools and districts statewide. The District’s score exceeds both the state average, 778, and county average, 771. To address a student population that is 52 percent Hispanic, CNUSD offers a Dual Language Immersion program. Young students also have the opportunity to engage in accelerated education through Gifted and Talented Education (GATE). Three elementary schools offer a GATE Magnet Program where thirdthrough sixth-grade students are selfcontained with GATE students. In other schools, students are offered specialized instruction in clustered classes. Corona-Norco Unified School District provides college-bound students with college preparatory courses, and 24 Advanced Placement (AP) classes. One high school provides an opportunity to attend classes at Norco College simultaneously allowing them to graduate high school with both a diploma and an associates degree. An international education focusing on intercultural understanding and respect is offered through the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. The curriculum provides a challenging and comprehensive education designed to
promote international understanding and skills to live and work in a globalized world. Corona-Norco Unified School District offers both the Middle Years Programme (MYP) and Diploma Programme (DP). Children with an interest in science and technology will be challenged by the district’s STEM program. Based on the concept of educating students in four specific disciplines - science, technology, engineering and mathematics - STEM incorporates these subjects together utilizing a practical approach. The curriculum is driven by problem solving, discovery, and exploratory learning, and requires students to actively engage in a situation in order to find its solution. For students transitioning to community college, CNUSD has 19 high school courses receiving articulated credit. These classes provide a way a way for students to fulfill major requirements for an associate degree or certificate while still in high school by waiving college course requirements. Classes are held in partnership with the Riverside
Community College District and Mount San Antonio College. Within a 40-mile radius of Corona are 38 institutions of higher learning. Technical and vocational schools offer students focused learning, leading to a highly-skilled career. Four-year universities include California Baptist University, University of California, Riverside, and Claremont McKenna College. Community Colleges include Norco College
and San Joaquin Valley College. Online education is offered at schools including the University of Redlands Online. These award-winning public schools, colleges and universities are preparing the next generation for success. Our robust educational system—from preschool to post-doctorate—prepares our youth to enter the workforce well matched to the evolving needs of today’s workplace.
BY CORONA FOR CORONA
Serving since 1991, the nonprofit Corona Chamber Foundation works to provide local high school seniors with scholarships for college. Recently revived with a new board of directors, the Foundation has found a niche in serving both the businesses and individuals of our great community, to continue to serve educational goals, and expanded to include various community members’ needs.
The specific purpose of the 501 (c) (3) corporation is to promote and support educational activities within the community, support the community’s active duty and veterans, and support, by offering financial assistance, individuals and families faced with economic hardship associated with a wide array of emergency and nonemergency expenses. The Foundation has several fundraising events to participate in, and you can become a member of the Foundation through an annual or sustaining membership pledge. Annual membership is just $50 for individuals and $100 for businesses. Lifetime individual memberships are $250.

We offer a variety of hospitals and allied medical facilities, prestigious teaching institutions, innovative research laboratories, and major healthcare corporations. This wide array of services also plays a crucial role in the health of Corona’s economy and includes some of the largest employers in the city. Among these is Corona Regional Medical Center (CRMC). community hospital network comprising a 160-bed acute care hospital and a 78bed rehabilitation campus. The Hospital is certified by The Joint Commission, employs more than 1,100 trained healthcare workers and has a medical staff of approximately 325 physicians representing more than 40 specialties. Services include the only locked psychiatric unit in the service area, emergency services, general acute care services, home health and hospice services, and the only hyperbaric wound care center in the area. A strategic partnership with UC Irvine Health (UCIH) has brought expanded healthcare services to Corona, offering a depth and variety of medical options not previously available. The partnership includes a perinatal services program in Corona, merging CRMC’s obstetrical and gynecological program and UCIH’s expertise in managing complex and high-risk pregnancies. “Maternal fetal medicine is now available at Corona Regional Medical Center,” says Mark Uffer, CEO and managing director of Corona Regional Medical Center. TeleStroke and an interventional cardiologist are also among the expanded services. A comprehensive cancer center also is being planned. The two institutions are exploring ways to bring the resources of UC Irvine Health’s National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer center to the Inland Empire. “Our plan is to have an affiliated campus where we’ll have radiation therapy, infusion/chemotherapy and other therapies. We’ve already started the planning for those services,” Uffer says.

These services are enhanced by a physical transformation of Corona Regional Medical Center. Expansion includes an entirely new building that houses an emergency room more than double the size of the previous space. Above the new ER is a shelled space designed for future private patient rooms. Long term plans call for a separate medical office building and parking structure. Other medical facilities serving Corona are Kaiser Permanente, Riverside Community Hospital, and Children’s Health Center, a facility affiliated with Children’s Hospital of
Orange County (CHOC). Kaiser Permanente offers services including diagnostic imaging/radiology, laboratory, pharmacy, primary care, specialty care, and vision services. Kaiser’s Riverside Medical Center is a general medical and surgical hospital with 226 beds. Accolades for the Center have been many. It performed nearly at the level of nationally ranked 2015-2016 U.S. News Best Hospitals in two adult specialties: gynecology, and orthopedics. In addition, the Southern California Permanente Medical Group (SCPMG)
has been awarded the 2016 Excellence in Healthcare Award from the Integrated Healthcare Association (IHA) for top performance on clinical quality, patient experience and cost measures. Of the 200-plus physician organizations participating in California, only 34 physician organizations attained the Excellence in Healthcare Award performance standards for 2016, including Riverside/Coachella. With more than 60 years delivering care, SCPMG has 4.3 million Southern California members and counting. These members represent 260 different ethnicities. Just outside Corona’s border, Riverside Community Hospital has been a vital part of Inland Southern California since 1901. For decades, the community has depended on the hospital for comprehensive healthcare and highly specialized services. Riverside Community Hospital recently invested $460 million in the health of the community through the construction

of a major hospital expansion project. They can now accommodate another 105 patients along with other additions included in its new seven-story patient tower. Completed in October 2017, the expansion and renovation project will give Riverside Community Hospital the ability to better serve the Inland Empire region by improving access to healthcare with a total capacity of 478 licensed beds. In November 2017, the hospital began work on a new emergency room expansion and renovation project. The enlargement will meet the needs of a growing community and ensure an even higher level of care and service. “It’s one of the largest investments in Hospital Corporation of America, the organization that runs the hospital”, says Cherie Crutcher, Assistant Vice President of Marketing and Communications for the hospital. The total expansion project includes a three-level medical office building, a new parking garage adding 1,061 additional parking spaces, seismic retrofitting of the hospital’s existing patient tower, and the addition of the new 7-story patient tower. As one of the largest Emergency Departments in the Inland Empire region and a level ll Trauma Center, RCH sees more than 23,000 patient admissions a year, cares for more than 123,000 emergency patients and last year treated close to 750 stroke victims by the third quarter, Crutcher said. The 5,735-square-foot CHOC Children’s Health Center offers pediatric specialty care services in a convenient, family-centered care environment. A part of the Children’s Hospital of Orange County network, the Center provides a variety of services meeting the needs of children and families with first-class care and state-of-the-art facilities. CHOC’s 150 physicians work as a collaborative team with a supportive staff of wideranging pediatric professionals, including play therapists, nutrition experts, counselors, and nurses. These highly trained healthcare providers strive each day to fulfill their mission to advance the health and well-being of children through excellence in clinical care, education, leadership and research.

U.S. News & World Report has named CHOC Children’s one of the nation’s best children’s hospitals in the 201718 Best Children’s Hospitals rankings. CHOC ranked in seven specialties: cancer, diabetes/endocrinology, neonatology, neurology/neurosurgery, orthopedics, pulmonology and urology, which earned a top 20 spot on the coveted list. This is just one of many nationally-recognized awards. Opening in mid-2018 is the new Corona Family Care Center, a division of the County’s Riverside University Health System, bringing comprehensive outpatient primary care services to all regardless of ability to pay. Cancer screenings, immunizations, flu shots, nutrition management, pregnancy care and counseling, and child health services are a few of the many services that will soon be available at this Center. Corona is also home to premier amenities and services for senior citizens. Home Instead Senior Care, Comfort Keepers, Right at Home, and Synergy HomeCare provide in-home care while Corona Health Care Center offers transitional support. Assisted living communities include Estancia Del Sol, Valencia Terrace, Brookdale Magnolia Senior Living, and New Horizons Senior Residential Care. Beyond Brick and Mortar:
The Transformation of Corona Regional’s ER
The Corona Regional Medical Center Emergency Room (ER) received much more than a renovation in 2017. As the community watched the construction progress, the hospital was also busy purchasing new, advanced technology and increasing access to specialized emergency care. The only ER in Corona, Norco and Eastvale, the Corona Regional ER expansion from 5,400 square feet to approximately 20,000 square feet is a welcome change. The hospital doubled the number of ER beds, and created separate walk-in and ambulance entrances. Additional nursing stations were added, along with a dedicated
private room for private consultations with medical staff. Corona Regional Medical Center is proud of the new look. However, the benefits of the new ER offer more than meets the eye. STROKE TELEMEDICINE THROUGH UC IRVINE HEALTH Corona Regional Medical Center’s affiliation with UC Irvine Health puts highly trained, remote neurologists at the patient’s bedside through advanced technology. When minutes matter, the UC Irvine neurologists can rapidly view, diagnose and treat patients with signs of possible stroke. NEW, ADVANCED ER TECHNOLOGY In addition to the telemedicine technology, the Corona Regional ER is now home to its own CT and MRI equipment. Patients benefit from quicker scans and, in turn, quicker test results. Corona Regional also invested in endoscopic ultrasound, endobronchial ultrasound and the AngioJet™ Thrombectomy System. The hospital will continue adding and updating its ER technology in the future.

ER PEDIATRIC TELEMEDICINE THROUGH CHOC The hospital is now affiliated with Children’s Hospital of Orange County (CHOC) to provide specialized care for high-risk and critical care pediatric patients. The new Corona Regional ER offers access to a Children’s Telehealth program and Children’s Emergency Transport service. The Telehealth program enables a CHOC specialist to remotely evaluate children at the Corona Regional ER in real time. NATIONALLY RECOGNIZED FOR QUALITY CARE Recently, Corona Regional Medical Center received the 2017 Patient Safety Excellence Award™ from Healthgrades®, making it the only hospital in Riverside County named among the top five percent in the nation for patient safety two years in a row. The hospital received this honor for its efforts in preventing infections, medical errors and other complications. In addition, Corona Regional has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval™ and the American Heart Association®/American Stroke
“We have a vision to create a facility that can address everyone’s needs and we are working on it from every angle. Our beautiful new emergency room is just one example.”
Association® Heart-Check Mark for Advanced Primary Stroke Center Certification. The hospital’s Stroke Response Team is always ready to handle stroke-related emergencies and patients begin receiving care during EMS transport before they even arrive at the ER. THE TRANSFORMATION CONTINUES Corona Regional Medical Center is planning to enhance the services connected to its ER in the future. The hospital is working to become a STEMI (ST-elevation myocardial infarction) receiving center for the treatment of the most severe heart attacks. To further enhance its ER capabilities, Corona Regional will continue to strengthen relationships with local physicians and acquire additional advanced technology.
