Therapeutic bots are proving particularly effective in treating children with special needs. Most of the products on the market are physical bots. The NAO robot from SoftBank can be programmed to deliver any educational content and is the size of a small child. It is widely used in treating kids along the autism spectrum. The robot can be programmed to deliver interventional protocols and can sing, dance, play and converse with the kids. These children are often challenged by basic social skills, like making eye contact and reading emotions. Yet, they have no problem with robots.
BOTS SPUR NEW GENRE
Corporations are the top buyers of informational robots. By 2019, there were greater than 30,000 SoftBank Pepper robots deployed in 2,500 businesses worldwide. Companies that sell conversational A.I. bots identify employee training as a prominent-use case for the products. They are often called coaching avatars in the corporate segment.
There is a new genre of physical Educational Bots called guide robots. They are used to provide information and educational content to patrons visiting museums, exhibitions and tourism sites. The most intelligent bots are equipped with A.I., speech recognition, facial recognition and emotion detection.
Dozens of museums across the globe now use robots as tour guides, including the Musée de la Grande Guerre just outside of Paris, the American Museum of Natural History in New York, the Mob Museum in Las Vegas, and the Canada Science and Technology Museum in Ottawa. The Smithsonian in Washington, D.C., started using 30 Pepper robots in 2018 as tour guides in seven of its facilities. One of them speaks Swahili. The museum intends to deploy more than 100 Peppers in all 19 of its facilities.
More than 500 Educational Bot companies operating in 126 countries are identified in our report. Most of them are startups that are attracting significant amounts of venture capital. The demand is high in all six buying segments and in all seven international regions tracked by Metaari. What’s more, the revenue opportunities are very lucrative.
