WORKSHOPS MONDAY JUNE 6 – 8:30AM - 12:00PM Driving Distributed Team Success A behavioral approach to the team collaboration problem

Track: EE Level: Entry-Level to Intermediate Speaker: David Coleman, CEO, TeamSkillsPro Millennials, Mobile apps, Video everywhere, and the contingent workforce, are some of the many factors driving changes in the way we work. With more and more organizations becoming geographically distributed, it is more critical than ever to be able to work together productively. Yet our 2015 research shows that 45% of those using collaborative tools are not happy with them, and 55% don’t believe the collaborative tools they have, can support distributed work. Add to that the fact that most knowledge works already work on 3-4 teams (no matter what size the organization) and you have a growing recipe for disaster. In this workshop, you will:

>> Assess where your organization is in terms of collaboration (teams, groups or individuals).

>> Look at the 6 areas within most organizations where “Collaborative Leverage” can be found.

>> Determine the pain level of distributed teams (case studies). >> Examine the collaborative tools you are using, and how effective they are? >> Look at some of your common team processes and behaviors. >> Examine new options in the learning space to help teach teams better collaborative skills.

>> Learn how to turn successful distributed teams into a competitive advantage.

>> Learn how to increase team productivity by 25%.

This workshop is set-up as a collaborative discussion. We can all learn from each other. The workshop leader will provide background information on the state of collaboration today, tools taxonomy, and a variety of resources and metrics to help determine why your distributed (or colocated) teams are having specific problems that lead to low productivity. We will role play some situations, and use online situational, collaborative scenarios to play through others. We will break up into teams of 6 to play through a variety of these online scenarios, and then discuss what you learned, how effective was the simulation in supporting a solution(s) for your organization, and how these scenarios can be customized to fit your organizations specific needs. By the end of the workshop, you will not only have a good idea of where collaboration technologies are, but some of their current limitations, and some possibilities to overcome them. Bring a laptop or tablet to the workshop, as some of our work will be done online. WiFi connectivity will be provided. Bring your team “horror” stories to share. Prior to this workshop, you will get a special login identity, and the ability to create an avatar and profile for the TeamskillsPro scenario service.

MONDAY JUNE 6 – 8:30AM - 12:00PM The Balancing Act: Blending Flipped, Online & ILT

Track: BP Level: Entry Level Speaker: Dr. Melissa DiGirolamo Tata Consultancy Services While millennials are extremely comfortable with technology, there are other professional areas where they

June 6-8, 2016 Anaheim, CA

fall short. Give them a smart device and they can figure it out in no time. However, put them in a situation where they have to effectively communicate their ideas in a corporate environment and they often struggle. Spending a significant amount of time relying on apps for everything removes the human element from their daily interactions. They are more comfortable texting than talking. So when starting their professional career they often need coaching on the art of communicating face-to-face. Training teams need to explore ways to leverage the super-technical abilities of millennials to improve direct communication. While our audience is newly-hired IT professionals, this concept can be applied in other industries as well. The challenge is keeping participants engaged and using technology effectively to do so. A journey of over four years with more than 1000 participants has provided a unique insight into how to make the transition from full instructor-led format to flipped classroom style. There have been challenges along the way, but those have helped us to create a training program that is highly interactive and focused on developing well-rounded associates with high probability of success in their professional careers. This workshop will focus on implementing the right mix of fully online, flipped classroom, and instructor-led training to maximize employee engagement. Specific focus will be on engaging millennials as they begin their professional careers. In this workshop, you will learn how to: >> Engage millennials; >> Implement flipped classroom instructional programs; >> Design effective induction programs for any audience. Who Should Attend: Corporate trainers, managers and partners working with millennials

MONDAY JUNE 6 – 1:00PM - 4:30PM Smarter Brains for a Smarter Organization

Track: EE Level: Entry-Level Speaker: Margie Meachum, Chief Freedom Officer, Learningtogo In order to build a smarter organization you need to start with smarter brains. The pace of change today demands that your team become nimble, ready to respond to new threats and capitalize on new opportunities with utmost speed and mental agility. However, the human brain evolved over centuries to keep us alive, so it is still responding to our current work environment as though we are hunting for food – and trying to avoid being hunted – on a daily basis. Within this framework we can train the brain to learn new skills, process information in new ways and develop a mindset that is open to new possibilities. We have only recently begun to understand the inner workings of the brain, thanks to neuroscience. Sadly, most of what is written on the subject is either too theoretical to be practical or so over-hyped as to be meaningless. In this workshop, you will learn how to leverage the survival imperative to boost employee engagement, enhance performance and accelerate learning by speaking to the brain in its own language. You will come away

with specific actions you can take right away to make your organization “smarter” – in ways that will get you ready for the challenges ahead. The tools and templates provided in the workshop will give you a head start to mapping out the transformation of your team into a smarter, continuously learning organization, one brain at a time. In this workshop, you will learn how to:

>> Evaluate the current mindset within your organization and list key areas of development to sustain future growth and performance.

>> Identify at least two ways to change your current method of delivering training to make it more “brain aware” and effective.

>> Create a road map towards the new reality of a smarter organization using a series of tools and templates provided in the workshop.

Who Should Attend: Everyone attending this conference will benefit from this workshop. If you are a trainer, instructor, facilitator, presenter, coach or mentor, leaders, managers or C-level executive, you should attend this workshop. Margie helps organizations apply neuroscience to learning and human performance. Her experience demonstrates the application of advanced studies in education to analyze, build and deploy large scale adult learning systems to global audiences using a variety of learning technologies and tools. She helps people learn and improve performance by applying our evolving understanding of how the brain works, as revealed through neuroscience. Margie is a frequent speaker, writer and blogger in the learning industry.

MONDAY JUNE 6 – 1:00PM - 4:30PM How to Build a Leadership ‘TV Network’ to Compliment Learning

Track: LT Level: Intermediate Speaker: Emma King, Vice President of Learning Strategy, INXPO, Inc. In the Netflix age, easily accessible, well-organized video is always ON and available for our consumption, anytime, virtually any place. Real-time, “live” video communication enables leaders to connect with employees around the world in a powerful, effective and highly interactive way that engages employees better than written or video-only communications. Why not funnel your own organization’s content to follow this tested and true formula? In this half-day workshop, you will learn the keys to organizing and creating a ‘TV Network’ centered around video messages from key Leaders within your organization. By learning how to group, market and structure true ‘TV’ style content you will be able to better leverage your corporate communication initiatives. Engage your audience by centralizing multiple communications, consumable at their own pace – and learn how to keep your audience coming back for more. This workshop will provide you with the necessary information to effectively introduce a webcasting platform to engage employees, increase innovation, drive change and business results.

We share those skills along with an approach to systematically developing them to ensure front-line managers are actually capable of increasing employee engagement on the floor. In this session, you will be able to: >> Identify why so many front-line managers fail to drive engagement >> Describe the five key skills managers require to drive engagement … and the next five that support them. >> Analyze your approach to developing front-line managers to see whether it systematically enables them to develop the skills they need to enhance engagement.

In 2014, the company faced rapidly changing markets, increasing customer demands and intensifying competition from smaller and more agile cloud software companies. As a result, they embarked on a difficult journey to redesign its core platform and applications and reinvent itself as a cloud company. Soon began a turbulent cycle of innovation that would produce in an impressive suite of new products and solutions but at the same time create an unprecedented enterprise learning challenge across the company. The conditions for learning and development were particularly constrained in the professional services organization where SAP consultants typically face long working hours, travel to the customer sites and aggressive utilization targets. To make matters worse, when consultants did have time to learn, they have to navigate through a myriad of often outdated or irrelevant internal intranet pages, document repositories and community sites all managed by different groups within the company. In the beginning of 2014, a small grass roots initiative was launched to create a harmonized communities of practice around SAP’s new database and application platform - SAP HANA. 2:00PM – 2:50PM How to Build a Smarter, More Engaged and Higher-Performing Workforce Through Social Learning

Track: LT Level: Entry-Level Speaker: Kathy Bries, Learning@Cisco In the new digital economy, converging job roles, evolving technologies, and the continued growth of the Internet of Everything (IoE) have significantly changed the face of the workplace. In addition, we now have the most multigenerational workforce in history, which means great diversity of needs and expectations. This constellation of changes requires business transformation. To navigate this transformation, organizations require an agile, highperforming workforce. Current and projected talent shortages and skills gaps make this goal difficult to achieve, yet achieving it is essential. Organizations must to find ways to enable employees to gain the skills that the organization needs. Employee learning and development must be reimagined and redefined because, in today’s workplace, employees must be empowered to drive their own careers and development. This presentation will focus on how to develop and nurture employee engagement, using a multifaceted approach that includes social learning as part of its core. Social learning creates an interactive, interconnected experience for employees. People who might never otherwise have met are able to work together and learn from each other, strengthening teamwork and furthering personal engagement in the organization’s goals. Engagement is no longer a once per year problem, but rather, it is a continuous and always-on issue – and social learning provides the answer for this pain point. In this session, you will learn: >> How to prepare your organization for the workplace of the future. >> Why social learning is critical to building a culture of learning and employee engagement. >> Social learning best practices for developing a smarter, more agile and engaged digital workplace culture. Who Should attend: HR decision-makers, talent management professionals, training professionals and anyone who works in the learning and development aspect of an organization.

2:00PM – 2:50PM Are You Ready for Modern Mentoring?

Forget programs that are highly structured, tightly controlled, and designed with a shelf-life. This is not the way mentoring occurs in the 21st century. Today, mentoring is about open, flexible and dynamic learning relationships where anyone can take part, anyone can connect to share information and insights, and anyone can be a learner or advisor. This new approach is modern mentoring, and it is here to stay. During this interactive session, you will take part in an exercise that mimics modern mentoring so that you can experience it for yourself, you will learn about the factors that define modern mentoring, and you will

1:15PM-2:05PM The New Reality of High Performing Training Organizations

Track: EE Level: Intermediate Speaker: Ed Sattar, 360training.com Can we really mitigate risk through training? Everyone agrees training employees is an essential component of any organization’s operational excellence plan. Likewise, it’s widely accepted that training contributes to profit margins by increasing quality and productivity of work, while decreasing employee turnover. However, only the most progressive firms now consider training as an important element of its risk management strategy. Consider the following: What is your company’s risk threshold for the pending exodus of baby boomers, or for employees leaving due to poor onboarding training? What is your risk threshold for hiring from outside your organization rather than promoting from within because your workforce lacks the skills for specific roles? What is your exposure if your growth rate is faster than your acquisition of talent? This presentation challenges many longstanding beliefs and expectations of the learning function while reducing risk and increasing margins. In this session, you will learn: >> The importance of training your workforce and hiring from within. >> Why your company needs to adopt an operational excellence plan and how that will help you to reduce risk and increase profit margins. >> How to manage or eliminate common struggles such as growth rate vs acquisition of talent, high employee turnover, poor training for new employees, etc. Who Should attend: C-level management teams and managers or those that aspire to these roles.

2:15PM – 3:05PM Disasters and Triumphs in PowerPoint for Multicultural Learners

Track: BP Level: Entry Level Speaker: Kate Joshi, Juniper Networks Too many international corporations rely on voice-over-Powerpoint (VOP) presentations for training. And, too many of those VOP presentations are mere reading of scripts: the school lecture packaged for the business world. But VOP, being non-interactive, is unsuited for training ... and a single VOP simply

doesn’t work across variant cultures, vocabularies, and unstated assumptions. This presentation uses ads from different cultures to show why you can’t assume that your international workforce will “buy” even the simplest concepts that your VOP is “selling.” Discover how to build your own specialized language, culture, and set of assumptions with your audience – any audience – so that even while using English, you’re not stuck with quite all the cultural baggage English carries. This method works even with PowerPoint, which can be one of the least interactive tools on the planet. Attend this session and receive handy how-to sheet to take with you, so you can rebuild what you learned, and use Powerpoint to do it. In this session, you will: >> List at least three advertisements that, while persuasive in their own culture, are unintelligible or even repellent to the individual viewer. >> Learn three “vocabulary” signals in PowerPoint presentations that coax learners through interactive training, no matter where the learners are situated geographically. >> Discover three techniques in PowerPoint that allow interactivity. Who Should attend: Anyone using PowerPoint for training or demonstrations, and those using Voice-over PowerPoint training.

2:15PM – 3:05PM Mentoring Management Model to Reduce Transactional Distance in E-learning

Track: EE Level: Intermediate Speaker: Dr. Carla Lane, University of Phoenix Teaching and learning models identify how instructors should facilitate students and how students learn. While we have management models for many other types of work and organizations, we do not have one for online learners that can be used by facilitators. This session will present a new model that is based on Ken Blanchard’s situational leadership model (modified as a mentoring model) in conjunction with Michael Moore’s transactional distance model. Transactional distance is a separation caused by the distance between learners and online learning resources. It describes the sense of isolation of learners who feel separation from instructors, peers, content, and the administration in online learning environments. Increasing instructor presence improves this, as do instructional strategies that engage peers and dynamic content exploration. Administrators reduce transactional distance through easy access, fast responses, and clear policies. The research results from several studies about transactional distance will be presented Situational mentoring allows the instructor to manage students depending on their competencies and skills. There are four management quadrants. The directive strategies in the first quadrant are used for students who need the most access to and support from the instructor. Learners progress to other quadrants as their skills and competencies increase. In the fourth quadrant students need less of their instructor’s time. This encourages the development Track: EE: Engage the Smarter Workforce SE: Building the Smarter Enterprise BP: Best Practices of the Smarter Leader LT: Empowering the Smarter Learner REGISTER TODAY! of self-directed and independent learners and allows the instructor to individualize the entire learning environment for each student. The model is easily adapted to pedagogical and Andragogical theories of teaching/learning. After each content segment, we will discuss how their institutions might apply the concepts of situational mentoring and transaction distance and/or provide examples of how they are using other student management models or reducing transactional distance. The purpose is to help participants apply these important concepts and improve the instructional design, improve instructor presence, and create a better learning environment for online students to increase their learning and satisfaction with the online environment.

How is this possible? The answer is in the culture. America’s fighting forces cultivate a culture of learning, where performance is far more important than a certification. Technology is, and will always be, the supporting element to the main effort – the individual. The person is the focus, and technology is the counterpart. So does this mean we shouldn’t use technology in learning? Absolutely not! E-learning, learning management systems, and technology as a whole are critical to the success of talent development, and this is no different in the military. Why? Because technology provides a level of scalability, reliability, and quality unattainable with the human element alone.
