BlaqRayn Publishing Plus began its’ life in late summer 2012 as BlaqRayn Publishing and Promotions. It is the dream and brainchild of Founder/CEO Kim Morrow. Anthony Arnold Anthony Arnold...hmm...the voice of the past. This gentleman has a most powerful and poignant voice, not only in the world of poetry but in the world of literature in general. His words are impressive as well as expressive. I have had the pleasure of reading him and his style takes one to another realm. It is almost akin to a spiritual experience; if you close your eyes, you can faintly hear the voices of the past whispering in your ear... Anthony Arnold, born and raised by his grandmother in a little town called Quincy in Florida, wrote his first piece in the third grade and fell in love with writing ever since that moment; writing has become a comfort and a mainstay to keep him focused. As an avid reader of all genres of literature, Anthony has found a particular passion for black history. He believes that his ancestry and the ones that have come before him have given their blood sweat and tears to make it possible for him to live a life of freedom and liberation. Anthony is saddened to the fact that the current generation lacks knowledge and don’t seem to know or speak of family history, our history or black history. Writing gives Anthony the ability to educate those that have no clue about the things that African Americans have faced and write of things that they will never be taught in schools, such as “African Americans” and the Civil War and shedding light on the strength of our people. Anthony’s love for fellow man grew during his service to our country where he served and was awarded numerous medals, including Air Force Achievement Medal-1986, 1993 and 2001 and many more. His desire to show the younger generation to want to learn about where they come from and to let them know we are much more than what society has labeled us! Anthony is a humble man that uses poetry to express what he hears, thinks and passionately feel about black history and thanks anyone willing to have the courage to take this journey with him to learn of MY PEOPLE, OUR TRIALS AND TRIBULATIONS. A young lady asking for help Knocks on a front door Slain by a shotgun She was only 19

The Murder of Our Future It started a couple of years ago with Trayvon walking home from the store tea and candy in his hand Shot and killed, no justice was found No peace was had, at 17 he was gone Another child slain, Jordan was his name Shot because of the music playing in the car Unarmed and enjoying his friends At 17 his life came to an end

In a place that should have been safe In a hallowed place of learning 20 children lost their lives 6 and 7, their lives barely begun What is happening to our children? Our future is being erased No parent should ever have to bury their child No child should ever lose their life this way Parents teach your children, hold your children Love your children We need our children We are our children

watched He was only 13

Through poetic expression, this book is the beginning of fulfilling a desire to share knowledge with the younger generation more about their ancestors and culture; letting them know they are much more than what some in society has labeled them. “The Voice of the People, Stellar poet Anthony Arnold writes what others are afraid to say. His magnitude stems from being an activist, teacher, orator and romantic. History will never be silenced. His inspirational and emotional inking educates the reader. You can not help but feel the story-telling or the poem ignite through his pen...his pen screams for love...his pen screams individuality” Rose-Marie Howard

Urban Musings is a strong, powerful historical and influential compilation of poetry packed with expressions of hope. Arnold’s magnificent words resonate brighter days through remembrance and provoking change.

The Jenkins Institute for Children

Article by Terry Dais-Pasley The orphanage took in donations of musical instruments. Not being a musician, Jenkins hired two local Charleston musicians — P.M. "Hatsie" Logan and Francis Eugene Mikell — to tutor the boys in music. Upon its establishment, it became the only black instrumental group organized in South Carolina. The band's debut was on the streets of Charleston with the permission of the mayor, police chief, and Chamber of Commerce. The Jenkins Orphanage Band, wearing discarded Citadel uniforms, performed throughout the United States and even toured England raising money for the support of the orphanage. It played in inaugural parades of Presidents Theodore Roosevelt and William Taft. It appeared at the St. Louis Exposition and the Anglo-American Exposition in 1914. It toured the USA from coast to coast, and played in Paris, Berlin, Rome, London, and Vienna. As many as five bands were on tour during the 1920s. The band ceased to exist in the 1980s. In 2003, a 10-minute Fox Movietone News newsreel feature about the band, filmed on November 22, 1928, was entered into the United States National Film Registry as being worthy of preservation.[3] William “Cat” Anderson, Jabbo Smith and Freddie Green are but a few of the alumni from the Jenkins Orphanage band who made it to the big time. The orphanage was responsible for providing numerous children with another chance, which many took advantage of by going on to lead productive lives, including teachers and attorneys. Luther M. Reames Jr., Esq. is a vice-president with a major bank and an example of a Jenkins Orphanage success story.

The Daniel Joseph Jenkins Institute for Children is the current descendant of the Jenkins Orphanage founded in 1891 by the Reverend D. J. Jenkins. The orphanage was originally located at 20 Franklin Street in the city of Charleston. It reopened its present location of 3923 Azalea Drive, North Charleston after a severely damaging fire in 1937. Different skills were taught at the Institute, however, music gave the institution worldwide recognition. Edmond Jenkins, the son of Rev. D. J. Jenkins, implemented and coordinated the music programs here. As a result as many as five jazz bands were organized and they toured the U.S. from Maine to Florida. One of the bands played at the Anglo-American Exposition in London, England. These performances provided the principal economic support for the Jenkins Orphanage for many years. The bands were training grounds for some outstanding jazz musicians, and one played for many years with Duke Ellington Band. Currently, on our campus of girls, we serve ages 11-21 as a residential treatment facility that offers a low management setting for up to 19 residents.

With KillBill Chef

The Chef’s Kitchen

I have always loved to cook and Started my career in cooking in 1990 when I enrolled in The New York Restaurant School on 34 Th st. No matter how hard life became school was my escape.

My second divorce and my dad dying of A.I.D.E.S. and being a single mother, working full

time as a home attendant and school~~ It was the hardest year of my life but through the grace of God I made it through!! I took care of Dad til his last day ~~ Moved on with the divorce and accepted it~~ worked hard and made sure my daughter was care for~ I

Mr. Unknown

Mr. Unknown...he sounds a lot like R. Kelly but definitely with his own style and voice that kinds of flows over you like warm honey. Yes...I said warm honey! Makes you want to get all hot and sticky for real! His flow is R&B with true soul and just enough beat to make it relevant for the here and now...like a mix of R. Kelly and the O’Jays brought up to 2013 and beyond. Mr. Unknown started his singing career in church and the flavor is still there and so is his devotion to God and family, which makes him a bona fide Superstar in every way!

Why this name? I asked the same question and Mr. Unknown had a unique answer: The name Mr. Unknown came about originally because I was being compared to other artists in the industry and I just wanted to do something different. I have a lot of different skills; I can write, I produce and engineer music/sounds for others as well as myself. I can even sing songs off the top of my head. So you never know what you’re gonna get from Mr. Unknown.

I had to know if there was a chance to see Mr. Unknown perform live considering he’s originally from Charlotte NC! Do you perform live? I perform live all the time. I've been featured in the BET PANTENE Tour which went up and down the whole east coast and over as far as Houston. I opened up for artist like MC Lyte, Yolanda Adams, and Nikki Giovanni. I also performed on the EBONY MAGAZINE Black Family Reunion Tour where I opened up for Sugar Hill Gang, Big Daddy Cane, Whodini, and others.

How has fame affected your life? It really han’t in terms of how I view myself, but I have noticed that I am recognized more when I’m out and even my children have noticed and asked “Daddy, are you famous?” I try to make sure they understand that I am noticed and well, maybe a little famous, But I’m still just “daddy” to them!

How does it feel to hear that you sound like a certain performer? There was a time when it kinda bothered me because I want to rise and succeed on my own merit and I’ve been told this since I was much younger. But I have learned to accept the similarities in our voices yet focus and bring attention to the differences. It makes me feel good when my fans tell me they are with me for my sound and that my similarity to others only enhances and brings out my originality and individuality!

Where does the inspiration for your music come from? My music is inspired by my life and the many situations and circumstances life brings to us on any given day. Since my niche is R&B and Soul, a lot of my music comes from the heartaches and joys I have experienced. It is also heavily influenced by my years of singing in church and my relationship With God. I truly understand that without Him none of this would be possible!

What type of relationship do you have with your management? My brother was my manager when I first started and when he died I was ready to just give up the entire process. However, through prayer and listening to my fans screaming for me to come back, I gave it another shot but I was trying to do it on my own. When I talked with Boss Black, our spirits just connected and God let me know this was the man I could trust my career with and we have been together every since.

Any special moments you’d like to share with us? One special moment that stands out for me goes a little like this... The evening began with a pair of special guests (DL Scott & Walt Smooth) who got the crowd of 4000 in a dancing mood before the house lights dimmed and the crowd was on its feet waiting for the man of the evening. With a new-found energy and electrifying on-stage presence, headliner Frankie Beverly brought his unique brand of funk to Daniel Island as Family Circle Magazine Stadium came alive with the R&B sounds of the MOJA Festival finale. I remember being excited when I performed at this event because of that energy. I remember the feeling I had when the crowd chanted me to give them more and I happily delivered...

The musician deep in thought...I wonder if this is how he looked when he wrote “I Was Wrong

Mr. Unknown can be found on Twitter @MrUnknown1 delivering scripture and words of wisdom and encouragement daily...hmm...was this one of those priceless moments?

Make sure to check out Mr. Unknown on Twitter, Facebook, and Insta-gram. You can check out his music on Soundcloud, Reverbnation

and Itunes. I was also blessed to interview this rising star on the BlaqRayn Radio Music show “BlaqRayn with Mr. Unknown and the GS Boyz” so make sure to drop by the archives and listen in!!!

The Journey

This is where it began, “The Rebirth of my Soul.” I walked through fire and lived to tell about it. Only that was just the tip of the iceberg. My entire life changed. I survived yes, but the pain of it all appeared to be unbearable. The journey back to health became intertwined with the road to defining and reconstructing my individuality. Once reborn, the true test came, life itself…. In the memoir of “The Rebirth of my Soul,” Series Author Aija M. Butler shared the trials and tribulations of healing and recovery. During this journey, she realized that sharing her stories of rehabilitation after her illness, helped to inspire and motivate others. Soon, the Rebirth series, encompassed all walks of recovery, in “Life Honestly after, Born Again the Resurrection” Aija touches on the many ups and downs of rehabilitation, life after…the death of a loved one, illness, divorce, abuse, the list goes on.

The Journey is a compilation. These stories are the testimony's of true events that have plagued, taught, and redeemed many women...that just a few of us have stepped forward to tell. All of the stories presented have different writing styles which is going to make for a fun, adventurous, inspiring read for its readers. The topics range from abuse (physical, mental and psychological) to substance abuse to chronic illness, to death to rape to molestation. the purpose of this book is to help the writer heal and to inspire others who may have lived through the same things or something similar to find the strength to go on. These remarkable stories will motivate, heal and inspire. Read and be encouraged.

Each Book Before & After-Faith tell what is is like to look your child. she found out about it death watching the news and she just had a feeling. LJ Thomas (CEO Asoral Publishing/AMB) LJ is a writer, mother, grandmother and more. She has lived with chronic illness most of her life, but enjoys creating images through words. It has always been a way of coping for her. She works as a publisher and writes because it is a part of her and it helps keep her sane in this crazy world. All of her fiction work is partially based on single moments in life. The first collection of short stories, "What Is This World Coming To?" is inspired by her children. The second collection came from listening to men and women in relationships talk about their problems and is called “And I Trusted You.” Most recently, she has been publishing flash fiction and individual short stories. These titles include, Cruel Intentions, Hit & Run, you better Run and Family Gathering. She is also a ghost writer and editor. She also writes under Jamela and Ms. J. The book on Multiple Sclerosis, Bad Nerves: All about MS and stuff is her “baby”, because she lives with this disease and wants people to be able to understand what it is from a layman's point of view. This book is not very long, but it is extremely informative. It contains interviews from persons in the medical profession and caregivers. In addition, there is a glossary and a helpful list of resources. All royalties for Bad Nerves are being donated to help fight MS. Prior to getting books published, she was published in magazines and on websites under several pseudonyms. LJ wants to help other writers/authors. The Journey piece took a long time to write because it was so painful to remember. However, in sharing it, LJ has found healing and strength."At least I can talk about it and I don't see red when I think about it anymore. I thought burying it was the best thing to do and that was wrong, because I was not able to get over it and heal. Writing about it and telling about it has made all the difference," she says. She lives in Atlanta and can be contacted at asoralpublishing@gmail.com or visit her website or asoralpublishing.org.
