Mars Simulation Outpost Alpha Research Centre A research and training centre for the future astronauts to familiarize with the extraterrestrial environment on Mars.

MAY 2017 FINAL YEAR PROJECT BA (HONS) INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM

Mars Simulation Outpost Alpha is a research and training centre for the future astronauts to familiarize with the extraterrestrial environment on Mars. Simulation Outpost Alpha will be the ďŹ rst prototype of many providing a training facility on Earth and familiarization for a life on Mars. On Earth, it will provide evaluation and training and on Mars, it will provide a safe home for the crew. The building occupied is Battersea Power Station in London. The proposed design is separated into Wing A for public and Wing B for private access, which is a gallery for the public, and research centre for private access.

01

The research centre has a major space which is the central atrium where the training takes place. It consists of Mars-like landscape with an observing deck from the fourth oor and a simulation outpost which had proposed by Mars One that makes up as living quarters and living supply. There are greenhouse and laboratories for research purposes, a large pool of buoyancy simulator, as well as boot camp laboratory and residence for the astronaut candidates. On Mars, the outpost will expand as more astronauts arrive, creating more living space and ever-changing environments for the permanent settlement.

DETAIL OF LOWER ROOF AT WING A & B (NOT TO SCALE) A green roof is designed at both lower roofs to harvest rainwater, provide insulation, and to lower air temperature of the surrounding area.

Ventilation

Green Roof & Water Systems

The existing chimneys improve ventilation of the whole building, primarily from the basement level.

Rainwater is collected and stored in a storage tank on basement level for WC flushing and heating system.

Photovoltaic windows and panels

Ground Source

Electricity is generated from solar power and ground source heat pumps for water heating.

Natural heat sources are used for heating and cooling. Blackwater treatment, potable water treatment, water tanks and hot water storage are stored here.

THE SPACE OF LUXURY Utilizing digital technologies in retail store to enchance the in-store experience for shoppers.

OCT 2016 MINOR PROJECT - SPACE OF LUXURY BA (HONS) INTERIOR ARCHITECTURE & DESIGN UNIVERSITY OF HERTFORDSHIRE, UNITED KINGDOM

09

The Space of Luxury explores the perception and production of luxury in high-end fashion shops where the idea of luxury is pursued by in-store technology and interactive experience, rather than the use of traditional images and symbols of luxury. Today’s technologic achievements provide the possibility to enhance the customer’s experience significantly. Interactive systems, tracking devices and responding environments allow the customer to play an active role in the retail experience, by changing with their choices, movements and inquiries within the built environment of the shop. Consumers are

increasingly more tech-savvy and stores are consequently reflecting this by offering a digitally enhanced experience. On the other hand, a clear picture of what has been already done and what is possible in terms of business model, digital and physical elements is needed. Among the technologies applied in this retail store are a beacon and radio-frequency identification technology (RFID) tags on clothes, some products, and mannequins, as well as interactive mirrors at fitting rooms. The beacon and RFID tags on products are to assist customers making their choices which trigger related catwalk footage when some products are

taken into a fitting room or near a video screen. Customers are also able to check the item's availability and call for assistance. Meanwhile, the RFID tags on window display mannequins assist the customer on the street making their purchase through the online store if the retail is closed or to simply avoid the hassle of lining up at the cashier counter. The interactive mirrors and screens are connected with RFID tags to let customers fit the clothes virtually and to detect which products are most picked by customers.

IDEAS Autism Centre (IAC) An early intervention care for autism assessment, diagnosis, treatment and support for autistic children.

APRIL 2015 FINAL YEAR PROJECT DIPLOMA INTERIOR DESIGN MARA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, MALAYSIA.

IDEAS Autism Centre (IAC) is a kindergarten specialized to treat children with Autism Spectrum Disorder in their early age. IDEAS is the abbreviation for Institute for Democracy affairs, a non-government organization aimed for Malaysia’s libertarian thinker specifically to promote market-based solutions to public policy challenges. This kindergarten was established by IDEAS and aimed to provide early intervention care and education for autistic children below the age of 9, from low-income households, to ease their transition and

assimilation into mainstream primary schools. IAC also offers weekly occupational and speech therapy sessions to those who are not full-time students as well. Other sessions provided by IAC includes speech therapy, occupational therapy, psychiatric specialist care, and applied behaviour analysis. The aim of this project is to refurbish the existing design and resolve the existing problems occurred in the current building. The existing design is poor and lack of facilities to help with neuro-development of these children.
