WAVE HEIGHT All boards are tested and developed through hours of surfing by the team and JS (tough job) and the wave heights illustrated (in the coloured circles) are what R&D have found best suits that model.
FIN ICONS. The fin icon next to each board model gives you an idea on what fin set-ups that model was designed to work best with. The fin type displayed will be the way you will find it in store - Unless custom ordered. See below for explanations on each fin variation.

4

RAIL TYPE. These are a basic guide only. There are many rail variances that change slightly on every model, all the way from very low and hard to full and soft. We have broken these into 5 simple descriptions to give an idea on where that model’s rail type sits. The letters next to the icons give you an idea on the characteristics of that rail type.

JS industries is honoured to be part of possibly the most exciting WCT years in recent history. The iconic traktor logo was found under many of the top 33’s feet throughout 2012 and none more notable than that of Joel Parkinson and Jack Freestone. Parko and myself have had a long and productive relationship; which in the past few years has reached new levels, in both surfing and shaping performance, knowledge and respect. The model range created for this 2013 catalogue is at its absolute peak. It replicates all the innovations and improvments our team and world champions were riding by the end of the competition year; and now, we are excited to share it with the rest of the surfing world. Enjoy, JS

MONSTA was the most ridden model in Joel, Jacks and many others WCT quiver’s for 2012. It went in almost every condition that was thrown at it, Snapper, Trestles, Rio, and Santa Cruz to name a few. Its soul purpose is to fill the void between very poor and very good waves; which for the most of us are our daily bread and butter.

MONSTA has a slightly flatter rocker and more concave than FMN, which allows it to be ridden in most wave types with ease. It also has fuller softer rails making it a really forgiving performance board. It’s one of those boards that you will find yourself surfing the most. Ride MONSTA model 1 inch shorter than your forget Me Not (or standard short board).
P E R F O R M A N C E
I made a few ever so slight changes throughout the year after a few conversations with Joel and Jack. The most notable was the addition of curve in the last 3 inches behind the back fin so it gave the board a bit more release.

FMN played a major roll in Parko’s 2012 title win, being the first choice when the waves were at their best. Although the DNA of this model has been around since 2009 it is constantly evolving and improving along with the surfers riding it. FMN is now at the peak of performance surfing equipment and when used in appropriate conditions is unrivaled. During 2012 I made a few adjustments to JOEL’S FMN adding more volume throughout the centre of the board, yet still keeping the rail heights in line with what the model is actually for - GOOD waves. Having a lower more refined rail allows the board to penetrate and turn at high speeds. I have also added slightly more area to the outline yet leaving the tail tight with no hip for a continuous smooth curve. The rocker has slightly more lift at the nose and tail to fit into the curve that good waves offer. A subtle single to double concave means the board will harness all the waves power and give you optimum control (double concave under front foot has been removed from the 2013 model). TIP: Too much concave in powerful waves will mean too much lift, making it harder to get on rail and ultimately less control. All FMN sizes are also available with the addition of the 5 plug/ Rounded Pin tail set up. Joel used this set up in many events through 2012 and would suit anyone headed to Indo or riding barrels. If you want a 3 fin set up ride it as a squash and if the 5 plugs up your ally then order with a round pintail.

Quick shift is the exact replica of what Luke Egan is riding today; meaning we’ve updated the swallow tail to hip squash! Over the years Luke (like all pro surfers) has reduced the length of his boards and requests wider outlines to compensate for the shorter length. This replica LE model is one of the most sought after models in the history of the JS Company due to the strategically placed volume, wider outline, traditional LE swallow tail and flatter rocker with single to double concave. All winning combinations suited to 80kg/ 176lbs plus surfers who appreciate volume boards and sensitivity combined.

Single concave starts in the nose to direct water under your feet for lift and speed. Double concave starts in front of fins wich maintains lift and directs water release for maneuverability. I started working with jack freestone mid 2012 to create a board that would suit the average conditions faced on the QS. Jack (like the rest of the team) was fixed on the MONSTA, making it the perfect foundation for a cross over model. To keep the performance feeling of the MONSTA I focused on exaggerating its small wave capabilities. By increasing concave, making it shorter, with more outline curve and softer rails it maintained its performance look and feel perfectly when surfed in softer fuller conditions.

OCCY thought he was back on tour this year and after results in WA and trestles riding MONSTA he was looking like he might get there too! He headed back after trestles looking for a new step down. He has always loved his round tails and round pin tails so with his favorite KINGPIN and PRODIGY I set about making Occ his new small wave model. Taking a little bit from each of these previous models he now has the BULLSEYE. I straightened the outline by making the nose and tail slightly wider, then by using his favorite MONSTA rocker, a volume in between his favorite KINGPIN and PRODIGY we ended up with a really good easy to ride small wave board. The BULLSEYE has everything you would expect from an Occy favorite, built for those guys looking for a forgiving board that has glide and turns when you need it to.

Matrix is clearly JS #1 bestselling summer series model for many reasons Some changes that I made for this season were to eliminate some excess volume in the rail of this model I also reduced the width so that the overall combination of reduced width and foam creates more sensitivity You will continue experiencing the amazing speed from take-off, adding to that the updated refinements and reduced volume, plus the ability to bury more rail when you have speed, hold a better line and drive out of turns with momentum For waves 1-2 feet you cannot go past the Matrix model

The “Pier Pony” is by far the most directional small wave board ever released by JS. Specifically built for really weak and boring waves, the Pier Pony will make those lousy surf days a whole lot of fun. The constant flow of Vee running from the nose entry through to the tail help overcome the flatest rocker in the JS range. This vee creates quick transitions from rail to rail enabling you to gather speed through the weakest and flatest sections. JS has left a lot of volume throughout the board with a flat deck and full rail, making sure you are hovering over every section and avoiding any bog down time.
