A servant’s

call to worship

Donna Renay Patrick When you hear the words “call to worship” what comes to mind? Is it a place near the top of the Sunday bulletin where someone will read a scripture and pray before service? Is tradition the reason the “Call to Worship” is there? Walk with me, as I believe we can expand our focus on that issue. Traditionally, we have used the phrases “go to church” and “morning worship” rather loosely. What do those phrases mean? First Corinthians 6:19 tells us we are the temple of the Holy Ghost. The church lies within each of us by reason of the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and not within our physical structures. When we speak of the church worship service, it reminds me of three things: (1) The church is within us, (2) Worship is an encounter with

almighty God, and (3) Service is the attitude of being a servant. When we attend our church worship services, perhaps we should ask ourselves first, were we present in the “building” but absent from the temple? Did we really meet God in a true worship encounter? Did we receive a challenge to serve? Our presence in the church building at a certain hour on Sunday morning amongst other believers does not necessarily mean we worshiped. Being in church every Sunday does not make you a worshiper. Growing as a worshiper takes time, discipline, and sacrifice. Worship involves a sincere heart lifted toward a holy God. If our hearts are bowed low in humble submission before God, then our bodies may well follow. We read in Revelation 4:10 that the elders “fall down before him . . . and worship him. . .” In verses 8 and 14 of Chapter 5 we see a similar scenario: And when He had taken the book, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. . .” And the four living creatures kept saying, “Amen.” And the elders fell down and worshiped. When we gather on Sunday morning, we are not there only to meet one another, but to meet God with a sincere heart. It means raising your worship to the level of intentionality - a daily pursuit. It should be something that we give ourselves to daily. God is not a denominational God! He is not Baptist, Pentecostal, Catholic, or Methodist. He is God, and

our worship of Him is universal! Every child of the Most High God is under divine mandate to worship Him. John 4:24 makes no distinction as to denomination, nationality, ethnicity, or culture; it merely states, “God is a Spirit; and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.” Neither does this passage make any reference to music. Great music does not guarantee worship. Worship is a personal lifestyle sometimes expressed in public. There is a deeper dimension that God wants to take us to that many of us have yet to experience. The call to worship is really not from the side of earth, but the side of heaven. The call to worship comes from God Himself. Consider Exodus 20:3 where God instructs the Israelite nation, “You shall have no other gods before me.” Living a life of worship is a daily pursuit. Worship is not merely something we do; it is who we are. We must never measure the worship experience based on outward manifestations. There was a time in my earlier Christian experience that all I was giving God was my talent as a musician. I knew He wanted more, but that was not my concern at the time. But God knew how to get my attention! I was attending the International Worship Institute in Dallas when God broke through my selfish, unrepentant spirit. During the altar call that night, I found myself on my face under His power. He showed me that He wanted all of me, and not just the parts I chose to give Him. My ministry and my life changed after Cont. on Page 7

that. Real worship is not about what we are doing, but it is about what God is doing. When we receive a revelation from God, the proper response is worship. The prophet Isaiah knew this all too well. In verse 3 of Chapter 6 we are told that the Seraphim cry out “Holy, Holy, Holy . . . the whole earth is filled with His glory”. The revelation not only led Isaiah to worship, but it also threw him into a state of self-examination, according to verse 5: Then I said, “Woe is me, for I am ruined! Because I am a man of unclean lips, And I live among a people of unclean lips; For my eyes have seen the King, the Lord of hosts.” King Jehoshaphat had also received a revelation from God that prompted him and all of Judah to worship. Second Chronicles Chapter 20 details it for us. When a battle between Judah and three neighboring armies seemed imminent, God revealed through a Levite named Jahaziel not only where their enemies would be, but also His promise that they would not have to fight. When they received God’s words, Jehoshaphat and all of Judah fell down before the Lord in worship. A synopsis of this particular story may go something like this: (a) God spoke, (b) the people worshiped, and (c) the only battle that took place the next day, according to verse 23, was among the enemies of God's people, who all rose up against, and destroyed one another. Worship is a very vulnerable place to be because

when we willingly, totally expose ourselves before God in worship, He will show us (1) our true selves, (2) our ugliness in direct contrast to His holiness, and (3) He will show us how weak we are in light of His strength and power. When you have experienced God’s holy and awesome presence it will ruin you forever; you will never be the same. No longer will you be able to tolerate a worship experience stifled by traditionalism, denominational codes, cultural restrictions or condemnatory religion. The Word of God says that God is a “rewarder of them that diligently seek Him” (Hebrews 11:6). How does He reward those who diligently seek Him in worship? He does it with His manifest presence. So how can we be sure we answer the call to worship? First, move the “Call to Worship” off the Sunday bulletin and into your heart; worship is a heart matter. Second, just be real with God. With lifted hands, surrender your ALL to Him as He exposes what is inside you needing correction. Third, develop, or further develop your prayer life; prayer and worship are related. If you are intentional about these three things, you are on your way to next-level personal and corporate worship. Donna Renay Patrick

the important of keeping your makeup and tools clean When you apply your makeup using the various tools such as brushes, sponges, etc. some of the cosmetic material is left behind on them. When the brush touches your skin, it is exposed to the oil residue and dirt that cover your skin. Using the same brush over and over again results in these remnants coming into contact with your skin repeatedly. The result of this is outbreaks, rashes and allergies that arise as a result of poor skin hygiene. No matter how much you clean your skin, using dirty brushes or sponges to apply makeup exposes your skin to irritants several times a day. By adopting a regular maintenance routine is the only way to avoid this. It is also important to ensure that the makeup you use is clean. If your makeup has been contaminated, do not hesitate to discard it since filthy makeup can have severe reactions on your skin. How to Keep Your Makeup Clean Avoid sharing mascara, eyeliners, lip gloss and lipsticks with other users to keep it sanitary. After use, sanitize your eye pencils and lip pencils with a makeup sanitizer or sharpen them with a pencil sharpener. Allow the products to dry thoroughly before putting them away in your covered kit. If you have an eye infection and have been using your mascara or gel eyeliner, discard it and use a fresh one to avoid infecting your eye again. Powder products can be shared with others, without compromising hygiene, provided each of you has a separate brush/applicator. Remember to clean

BeautyTips the brushes/applicators thoroughly so that the product is not contaminated by them. All sponges and puffs should be cleaned using soap and water and letting it dry naturally and all tweezers and curlers should be sterilized with surgical alcohol. Step 1: Take your pencil sharpener and sharpen your eyeliner and lip pencils. This will remove any excess makeup or build-up from your pencils. Step 2: Use a clean cotton wool and wipe your mascara, lipsticks and lip glosses. For better hygiene purposes, use a new and clean brush applicator after each use. Step 3: Pour some surgical alcohol onto a clean cotton wool. Use it to sterilize your spatula, pencil sharpener, steel palette, tweezers and eyelash curler. Step 4: Take each brush in your kit and wipe it with brush cleanser. If you don’t have brush cleanser, you can wash your brushes with shampoo and conditioner. Step 5: Take shampoo and wash all your foundation sponges and puffs with this water and leave it to dry naturally. Remember that these sponges and puffs should be thrown out every 1 to 3 months. Step 6: Finally, take surgical alcohol and dab a generous amount onto a cotton wool. Take the cotton wool and wipe your palettes with this to remove any build-up. • • • • •

Topic: Faith

Faith is the assurance that God’s promises will never fail. It is very important as believers that we don’t allow our faith to waver. What do I mean? At all times, we must have faith. No matter what we are going

through or the situations that we may encounter we must continue to have faith and trust God. When things are going and when things are going bad we must continue to trust God. Just because you don’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not going to happen. A lot of times as believers we allow ourselves to get discouraged because we will feel like God had forgotten about us, or he doesn’t hear our prayers. But I am a living witness that God does hear and answer prayers. You not see it, you may not understand it but you must believe in your heart that God can do what he says. A famous scripture in the bible helps us get a better understanding on what FAITH is. Hebrews 11:1 “Now FAITH is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Take God at his word if he says it that settles it. You don’t have to question, you don’t have to worry. All you to do is have faith to believe. So many times, we spend our time putting our faith in money, cars, lottery, people, etc. instead of putting our FAITH in the master. So just because I don’t see it doesn’t mean it’s not happening. Faith is knowing that God will

make a way. Don’t allow your current situation to cause you to lose faith. It is so easy to lose faith. Soon as something tragic happens it causes our faith to waver. Life can be hard but faith is saying I know things will get better. Faith is speaking over your present situation and saying things have got to get better. You must have faith at all times. I know it’s easier said than done. Hebrews 11:6 says “but without faith it is impossible it is impossible to please him” If you want to please God you must have FAITH. There was someone in the bible that MEGA FAITH and that person is Job. Job lost so much in his life. Job lost his family, animals, friends, land. Everything that Job lost his FAITH had gotten stronger. It takes faith to lose everything that you love and remain confident. We must be like job no matter what our situation looks like, no matter what happens in life you must continue to have faith. When God sees your faith, when he sees that you truly trust him he will bless you. After job went through all of that God restored everything that

he had lost. In conclusion to this article I want you to understand we cannot be like peter. Peter was walking on the water and the moment he took his eye of Jesus he began to drown. I want to tell someone reading this you cannot afford to take your eye of Jesus. You must have faith to believe that ALL THINGS ARE POSSIBLE. AND IF HE SAID IT, IT WILL SURELY COME TO PASS.

ow faithful is our God! It has been nothing less than the faithfulness of God that has moved among our lives, family, communities, and country. As many things we can find wrong, we also can see the hand print of God in our lives. Yet, we live in an era that the church is questioned, doubted, and considered non-essential. This is the view of the world which is in complete contradiction of truth. Why? I would argue it maybe in lieu of the liberalism, modernism, and nonbiblical practices of the present church that has cost humanity too much. The importance of the church is foggy to many. Yet the church is the only institution whereby the world can see Jesus Christ. As we look to the future, it is with great humility and gratefulness that God has entrusted the declaration of Christ in the hands of His Church. The devil in hell knows that God is using the willing and available vessels to serve this present age. However we must not lose sight that the needs of today are as great as any other. Therefore, we must train and equip our youth to stand firm on the battlefield for righteous

sake. Allowing them to use their creative talents and ideas to aid in moving the church forward. For the Church is not and old man’s religion, for her founder was 33 years of age! It’s time to bridge the gap between young and old, a call to all generations to build on a foundation that’s sure. (For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1 Cor. 3:11) We pray that God gives more grace to the humble and power to the faint. In the city of Flint, Michigan where I pastor, it’s been another year in this water crisis. And another year that we declare that the Church is still here. Even in the midst of a crisis, you can still see Christ! Yet daily as we still stand to pass out cases and gallons of bottle water and go door to door across the city, we as the church are encouraged and grateful to be used by God for such a time as this! There’s a need for you right in your community, there’s a crisis situation which needs are waiting to be met by followers of Christ! Plan the work that God has given you, and work the plan. Luke 14:28 puts it like this, “For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it.”

Every trial can be overcome, every burden can be lifted, and every struggle can bring Glory to God. The Lord’s work is a battle but not a war. We must be determined to press our way through. Be encourage to stand for something, stand for the call on your lives, stand for the passion you have for humanity, stand for the children and elderly, and stand for truth and righteousness. Keep fighting the good fight of Faith. Set the stage to demonstrate leadership in your community, for if we don’t, it will cost us an even greater price than we can afford to pay!

Go To The Other Side Mark 4:35-41

In the 4th chapter of Mark starting at the 35th verse, the Bible tells the story of how Jesus told the disciples, “Let’s cross over to the other side.” As they were on their way a horrible storm arose that made them afraid for their lives. They found Jesus asleep in the boat, they woke Him, Jesus rebuked the wind and and told the sea “Peace, be still.” He then asked the disciples why were they afraid? Where was their faith? Earlier this month I preached at my church from this passage and the Lord spoke to me it’s time for us to cross over, go to the other side. In crossing over we may come across some obstacles, distractions, and major storms, but when God gives you a Word He also knows there will be those things to keep us from

getting to the other side. The enemy will do whatever he can to keep you from seeing the Promise fulfilled in your life. However you have to learn to be like Jesus and go to sleep. Rest in Him! What God says WILL BE! God told Moses to take His children to the promise land. In their quest they faced many challenges. A major challenge was when Pharaoh’s army was on one side and the Red Sea was on the other. There seemed to be no way out of what looked like a death sentence for them. They really had to trust that God would once again deliver them from the hand of the enemy as He had done before. God did deliver them by parting the Red Sea and having them walk on dry land. (Exodus 14:8-21) When you learn to completely trust, rely on, believe in the Lord, and Rest in Him, then He can do the

miraculous in your life. The obstacles and storms in your life is a distraction to keep you from the promises of God that He has made you. His promises are Yea and Amen. If He said it, He will bring it to pass! Believe His Word, fear not, have Faith in God. Getting to the other side for you may be where your healing is, your deliverance is, your financial freedom, victory in Jesus, whatever it is the Lord has told you. Be encouraged and GO to the other side!

Be blessed!

“Change is Coming” Minister Jucinta Jones

M

any of us as believers at some point in our lives have asked the Lord to change something, and it seemed as though

our prayers didn’t reach God at all because of His response time. Last month, we talked about how important it is to learn to wait on the Lord because His ways and thoughts are so much higher than our own. However, this month I’d like to encourage every reader who has been living a committed life unto God, and waiting patiently for something to shift in your life to know that change is coming! Perhaps, you’ve been praying for change to occur in your finances because it’s been difficult to make ends meet or you’ve been sick in your body and in need of a healing. I decree to you this

month that change is coming, so don’t get discouraged as you wait on the Lord because He’s literally working behind the scenes on your situation. Now isn’t the time to allow your frustrations and disappointments to decrease your faith in God. I encourage you not to grow weary while doing good because in DUE season you shall reap if you faint not. So in other words, everything happens in our lives at God’s appointed time, and just like seasons change in the natural things change in our lives spiritually as well. This month I’d simply like to make some declarations over those believers who have been dealing with doubt and worry by letting you know that change is

coming. Perhaps, it doesn’t appear that change is going to manifest in your life for the better, but it will because of your faithfulness to God. It will because God is true to His word, and all things are working together for your good. Also, there are those of you who have been diligently working on your business ventures, books and ministry assignments and you’re in need of doors to open I decree that change is coming for you as well. So people of God continue to trust in God and His word because God hasn’t forgotten about you. Praise God in advance because Change is Coming!

Living happily with the one you love

L

ive happily with the woman you love through all the meaningless days of life that God has given you under the sun. The wife God gives you is your reward for all your earthly toil. – Ecclesiastes 9:9 Date night can be a reprieve from the mundane, a break from the humdrum, and an opportunity to reconnect with your spouse. It can also be a source of stress if done out of obligation or indebtedness. When our children were young and our parents were old, I felt overwhelmed with caregiving. I felt that my husband, Jimmy, spent as much time away from home as possible. He worked his 8 hour day, went for a nice, long run or bike ride after work, then finally made it home to play with the kids for a while before bedtime. I never had the opportunity to sit down, unwind with a glass of wine and go over our day together. We were broke, tired, and right in the middle of diapers, ballet recitals, swim lessons, driving aging parents to doctors appointments, church activities and even homeschooling. When “date night would arrive, I felt guilt that we were spending money on a babysitter and I was too tired to really enjoy myself. In addition, I took that rare opportunity to have my husband to myself to go over things that I felt were really important. I never understood why these date nights were such a bust.

Night Thank goodness for a Titus 2 woman from my church. I confided in her how horrible these date nights were and when I described what we talked about over dinner, I could see that she was stifling a good laugh. “Honey, that’s not a date night. That’s a board meeting!” We talked about how to connect again and leave the conversations about bills, recitals and parents at home. Here are the most memorable date nights we have had once I discovered that board meetings and date nights are not the same. 1) Painting wine glasses while drinking wine at Thorn Creek Winery in Aurora. 2) Watching the sunset on the top of an apartment building. 3) Splashing each other in inner tubes on Lake Erie during a hot, August day. 4) Listening to a band at Rick’s Café in Chagrin Falls. 5) Walking up part of Chagrin River and floating back down in blow-up floaties. 6) Dinner at my favorite Thai place. 7) Going to the movies. 8) Double dating with a favorite neighbor couple. 9) Ice Skating at the Cleveland Heights Rec. Center.

HEALTHY MARRIAGE

10) Splitting a monster brownie at Tommy’s on Coventry. 11) Running around Lakeview Cemetary taking photos of the amazing statues. 12) Checking out the latest exhibit at the Art Museum. Allow your date night to unfold into a time of reflection and joy. Don’t forget to pay a compliment or two, gaze into his or her eyes and most of all make them remember why they chose you in the first place.
