King Edward VI School

End of Term Bulletin 14 July, 2017

O

ver the past few weeks we have had a huge array of activities including an excellent Arts Festival, a host of university open day visits, work experience placements, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and preparation for the Fourth Year students as they consider their Sixth Form options. A wide range of visits and events organised for Endeavour occupied the penultimate week with much of this recorded in more detail in the latest issue of Konnections. Sports Day and the Swimming Gala both proved to be very competitive occasions and, as ever, the Allen Grant Inter-House competition has been fiercely contested! Over the summer many students will be involved in activities abroad and in the UK including the Summer Camp in the New Forest, the Goedgedacht team in South Africa, expeditions to Nicaragua and Costa Rica, a hockey tour of South Africa and the watersports trip in France, as well as further Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Our thanks go to all of the staff involved in those trips – they will be giving up a lot of their holiday to make them work so well. We are looking forward to the re-opening of the Dobson Theatre together with the expanded Sixth Form Concourse and the new atrium adjacent to the recently refurbished art department. The first formal event in the new Theatre will be Prize Giving on Friday evening, the 15 September. The chief guest will be Dr Steve Bull. We thank Mr Hunt, Mr Kukla and Mr Hardwick for all they have done for the School and wish them well as they retire after a combined 60 years of service to the School. We also wish Mr Halls, Mrs Platten, Dr Evans, Mr Fernandez, Mrs Tucker and Miss Porter well as they move to roles in other schools and new challenges. The names of the staff replacing them may be found on page two of this publication.

Fourth and Fifth Year Trip to Paris October 2017

Final payments will be due at the start of September. Information Evening for parents and pupils in the Dobson Theatre on 25 September at 7pm.

Social media has many benefits however it also has areas of concern. We have organised an information evening which has been designed to help KES parents understand how children are using social media. It is intended to be a practical session that offers advice on helping children manage their online lives, as well as demonstrating how some of the more popular social media platforms work. This will help parents make informed decisions about how their children use social media to interact with their peers.

Montpellier 2018 The Sixth Form Language trip to Montpellier will be launched at the start of term.
