he first half of term concluded with an excellent production of Simon Gray’s play ‘Just the Three of Us’ directed by Sixth Form students. This, along with the 24-hour Cyclothon, a combination of school trips and activities, musical events, mid-sessional examinations and A level modules has understandably left some very tired children and staff in need of a break.

Leave of Absence Summer 2013 FOURTH YEAR No study leave. GCSE Religious Studies examination on the morning of Monday 13th May. FIFTH YEAR Leave of Absence begins on Friday 3rd May at 4.00pm.

Congratulations go to the 12 students who have received offers from Oxford and Cambridge along with the many others who have received good news from other very competitive universities. As ever, there are some disappointments but almost all students who have applied this year for university have a realistic target to aim for over the coming months.

LOWER SIXTH Leave of Absence begins on Friday 10th May at 4.00pm. Return to lessons on Monday 10th June. Students in the Lower Sixth taking the C3 Mathematics module have study leave from 1pm to 3.55pm on Wednesday 12th June.

We have had a good term on the sports field in spite of the frustration of some weather based cancellations. Boys’ hockey successes include the U14 team who won the Hampshire Cup Tournament and the U14, U16 and U18 teams have all progressed to the final stages of the county rounds of the national competition. Preparations are well underway for our Service of Thankgiving which takes place this year at Winchester Cathedral on 20th March.

UPPER SIXTH Leave of Absence begins on Friday 24th May at 4.00pm. Students in the Upper Sixth taking the S2 Mathematics module have study leave from 1pm to 3.55pm on Thursday 23rd May. KESSOC LECTURE “TITANIC – A FRESH LOOK AT THE EVIDENCE” Friday, 10th May, 2013 7.30pm for an 8pm start in the Hospitality Suite

The School is reviewing its three year development plan over the next six months and much work has gone into blending our future objectives with those of Stroud School. We will combine the views of staff, parents and students as gathered through the surveys we conduct every three years through Kirkland Rowell with the conclusions from our recent excellent inspection report and other more informal consultations, particularly with KESSoc, to produce a new plan in July for our governors this year. The conclusions will be communicated to parents in September.

This year’s lecture is being given by Rear Admiral John Lang who, after 37 years at sea, became the UK’s Chief Inspector of Marine Accidents. It is with this experience that he has re-investigated the details of the Titanic Disaster with some fascinating findings and conclusions . . . Tickets cost £8 to include a glass of wine on arrival (Students FREE – donations please) and can be purchased via KESpay or by cheque made payable to KESSOC and sent to the Main Office clearly marked “KESSOC Lecture”.

I wish you and your children a good break over half term and hope to see a number of you at parents’ evenings and other events in March. AJ Thould Head Master

All proceeds from the evening will be donated to Rear Admiral Lang’s chosen charity: The Royal National Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen.

GCE Advanced Level Unit Results : January 2013 A Level results from the January 2013 examination series will be available to Upper Sixth pupils in the Sixth Form Study Centre from 8.30am on Thursday 7th March.
