Target 2.0 Bank of England Competition

Espaňa 2013

A group of four Upper Sixth economists have qualified for the South East Area Final of the Bank of England’s Target 2.0 Competition. They have to take on the role of the Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee in assessing the current state of the UK economy in relation to the 2.0% inflation target set by the Government. The competition consists of a presentation to a panel of judges from the Bank, in which the team has to recommend what should be done to the Bank’s interest rate and its quantitative easing programme. Following their presentation they have to field questions from the judges. This is a prestigious national competition and the team would like your assistance in preparing their presentation. To aid them in analysing the current economic climate they would appreciate your help by completing our short consumer survey www.surveymonkey.com/ s/823NRFG and business surveys www.surveymonkey.com/s/82JGDTQ

Open Instrumental Lesson Week During the week of 4th – 8th February, parents are warmly invited to come to the School and attend their child’s instrumental lesson. This will be a good opportunity to see the lesson in action and discuss instrumental progress with the teacher. Parents are asked to contact the instrumental teacher in advance if they would like to attend and to sign in at the Main Office on arrival.

Goedgedacht Project

Music Events

Each year a party of Sixth Formers travel to South Africa to work with the Goedgedacht Project which runs several projects aimed at improving the lives of rural children and youth. The trip involves working with a project known as Path out of Poverty where local school children can receive a hot meal and after school activities which over the years KES has helped to fund.

The Big Band will be performing a concert of Glenn Miller tunes for the residents of Sunrise Residential Home on Friday February 8th. A swinging time and a good old reminisce is sure to be had by all. On 11th February there will be an AS and A2 recital evening in the Music Recital Room starting at 7.30pm

As part of a series of fundraising events the team has organised a textile collection and are asking for your unwanted clean textiles. The textiles can be sent into school with your son or daughter in ordinary supermarket plastic bags from Tuesday 5th to Tuesday 12th February. Acceptable textiles include adults’ and children’s clothes, hats, belts, soft toys and curtains. We cannot accept dirty or wet clothing, off cuts of material or carpets, rugs, bedding, duvets or pillows.

KES singers will join with Twyford Prep School in the Music Recital Room on 9th March at 7.30pm for a performance of Zimbe. Our ever popular Spring Concert takes place on 13th March in the Main Hall. More information will available in next month’s Bulletin.

We hope you will support us with this fundraising initiative.

Challenge 13

KETA Transport Temporary Bus Passes

This year Dr Sinnett-Jones is planning to complete 13 physical challenges in order to help raise money for charity. The challenges range from muddy 10km runs, completing her first marathon, attempting a triathlon, kayaking non-stop from Devizes to Westminster (125miles) to running 100 miles across the Cotswold countryside over four days. Her final challenge will be to run the Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon in October which is a 250km race across the desert in a week.

Pupils wishing to obtain a temporary bus pass to enable them to travel on a different route must arrange this through Mr Goldie, giving at least 48 hours’ notice. He can be emailed on kwg@kes.hants.sch.uk. Temporary passes will only be available on buses where there is spare capacity.

Higher Education Programme

The aim of Challenge13 is to not only raise money for charity but to also encourage other people to get involved in challenging themselves.

All Lower Sixth students will have received an email recently providing them with a link to the online publication: Higher Education Programme 2013. Students should access this information in order to support their research into the next stage of their career.
