King Edward VI School

January Bulletin

T

25 January, 2019 he term has got off to a brisk start with some excellent results in hockey and netball in spite of some wintery weather. Those in the Third Year have had the opportunity to learn more about the First World War with a whole day of lectures and activities while our Fifth and Upper Sixth students have been fully engaged with mock examinations.

The PTA have again been very generous and we are very grateful for grants for new equipment for the Ceramics Club, the new Rocketry Group, and the Green Team. They will also be supporting the First Year Camp and the Arts Festival. As you may be aware, every three years we conduct a survey of all parents, staff and students. We apologise for yet another survey but we always value feedback and hope that this will not prove to be too much of an imposition. The conclusions from this survey inform the revision of the School Development Plan and your views are very important as a part of this process. The answers that you give will be analysed by an independent company and are completely anonymous. The Head designate, Mr Parker, notes that it is hugely important to him that he has the opportunity to hear from as many parents as possible about their experience of the school – not only those things which you love about it, but equally any ideas for future development that you may have. Listening to your views will certainly be a priority for him when he arrives in Southampton. He will see the results of the survey and, as you have always done, would like to encourage you all to take the opportunity to give full and honest feedback. The results will be summarised and published to all parents later in the year after a presentation to the KES PTA. Please spare 10 minutes to complete the survey by going to: http://survey.gl-assessment.co.uk/s/CV1Y3/ and logging on using the password KESS25467 (which is case sensitive). The deadline for contributions is 15 February, 2019. With thanks in anticipation of your help.

SCHOOL LUNCH REMINDER

Service of Thanksgiving 2019

The deadline for changes to School lunch arrangements for the Summer Term is:

On Wednesday 13 March we will be holding our annual Service of Thanksgiving at Winchester Cathedral. This is our formal opportunity to thank God for our life together and to reflect on all the many blessings we enjoy at King Edward’s, not least because of the vision and generosity of those who founded and endowed the School over many generations. We will be operating the KETA homeward buses from Winchester so there may be changes to arrival times at bus stops at the end of the day. We aim for all buses to leave the Cathedral between 3.45pm and 4.15pm and as we are not able to give exact times of arrival at stops we would encourage pupils to communicate with their parents during the journey home. Pupils who need to get back to School will have transport provided. There will be no late buses on this day and no after school activities. If you are happy for your son/daughter to make their own way home from the Cathedral you must let us know by emailing thanksgiving@kes.hants.sch.uk stating your child’s name and tutor group by 4pm on Monday 11 March. The service will start at 2.15pm and parents are welcome to attend. If you are planning to join us, please take your seat by 2pm.

4pm on Friday 8 March.

It will not be possible to meet requests that arrive after the deadline. Please email dinners@kes.hants.sch.uk giving pupil name, tutor group and the change intended. No action is required if arrangements are to continue as at present. Parents of Fifth and Upper Sixth pupils should refer to a recent email regarding reduction in lunch charges due to leave of absence for examinations. From the Medical Room: School Leaver Booster

Refreshments will be available to purchase while the judges deliberate the winner.

The Diphtheria/Tetanus/Polio and Meningitis ACWY vaccine programme run in school is for Third Year pupils only. Any pupils in the Fourth Year or above who have still not received these vaccines, must contact their GP. At the end of November 2018, all parents of Third Year pupils should have received a consent form regarding the forthcoming vaccinations. There has been some confusion over the year groups who are to receive these vaccines due to the NHS naming the vaccine ‘School leaver booster’. There are a considerable amount of consent forms still outstanding, so if you wish your child to be included in the vaccination programme, please it return as soon as possible. Vaccines take place immediately after half term on Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 February. Formal Complaints We are required by law each year to let you know that you can apply at any time to see the number of complaints which have gone through the School’s formal complaints procedure during the previous twelve months. I am happy to confirm that again there have been no formal complaints over the past year. Click here for the complaints policy and procedure. 3
