King Edward VI School

End of Term Bulletin 11th July, 2014

O

ver the past fortnight we have had a huge array of activities including a wonderful production of old folk tales by the Junior Drama Club, a variety of Third Year plays, an innovative art exhibition using the squash courts as a gallery, concerts, fund raising for our charity projects, a host of university open day visits, work experience placements, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions, preparation for the Fourth Year students as they consider their Sixth Form options and Sports Day in the sunshine. A wide range of visits and events organised under a new umbrella title of “Endeavour” occupied the penultimate week with two visits to France, a geography field trip to Osmington Bay, biology field work week at Dale Fort and various activities in the New Forest and on the School site. Sadly the swimming gala and the English study visit to Dorset have had to be delayed until September as a result of the School closure. You will see much of this recorded in more detail in the latest issue of Konnections to be published at the end of term. Over the summer many students will be involved in activities abroad and in the UK including the Summer Camp in Swanage, the Geogedacht team in South Africa, the St. Mark’s visit to Lovaton, the kayak expedition to Sweden, the Operation Wallacea Expedition to Madagascar and the watersports holiday in France as well as further Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Our thanks go to all of the staff involved in those trips – they will be giving up a lot of their holiday to make them work so smoothly. The summer holiday will see a number of projects including a new fitness facility and the refurbishment of the School Hall as well as a new Dining Hall and classrooms at Stroud. The early closure of the School has meant that the usual end of term awards (published here) will be made at the start of the new term in September as will the award of the Allan Grant House Shield. I wish you all a healthy break over the summer. AJ Thould Head
