June Bulletin 28 June, 2019

A

s I write the School is full of activity. We have enjoyed the myriad of events provided by the Arts Festival and we are grateful to all who made this such a memorable set of events this year.

SCHOOL LUNCH REMINDER The deadline for changes to School lunch arrangements for the Autumn Term is: 4pm on Friday 28 June 2019 The price for a lunch from September is £4.70. It will not be possible to meet requests that arrive after the deadline.

The pace changes in the final weeks of term with the Swimming Gala and the Endeavour programme to look forward to with activities across all year groups, ranging from the First Year Camp, the Second Year Normandy trip and a variety of activities for the Second, Third, Fourth and Lower Sixth.

Please email dinners@kes.hants.sch.uk giving pupil name, tutor group and the change intended. No action is required if arrangements are to continue as at present.

The Leavers’ Dinner and Leavers’ Day always sees mixed emotions; relief at seeing another generation of KES students emerge from their A level examinations exhausted but intact and still smiling (for the most part!) and a degree of sadness as we say goodbye to another impressive set of students as they leave School for GAP years, work and university.

Any request using the dinners@kes email address will be acknowledged.

KETA BUSES School finishes at 2.50pm on the last day of term and all KETA buses will depart at 3.05pm THERE WILL BE NO LATE BUSES

The Junior House competition is a highlight of our annual House championship. It is a wonderfully inclusive and popular event, bringing together all of our Second and Third Years as well as a significant number of staff and older students who stay after School to support the younger students and help run the competitions. In addition, it is an integral part of the School educational experience, as it provides opportunities for pupils to learn to play in a team and for them to realise the importance of the individual within the context of a group situation.

Uniform and Mouthguard Fitting Event Stevensons will be in the Sports Hall on 10 July between 3-6pm with a full range of school uniform for sale. OBNO will also have good quality second hand items for sale at the same event. Current students may attend for a fitting session with Stevensons from 4pm onwards. We also have OPRO, a dental organisation that specialises in mouthguards visiting on the day. Click here for more information. Permission for Absence It is expected that family holidays will be taken in School holidays and ideally all appointments should be arranged outside School hours but there may be occasions when you need to request time out of School for your child. If this is the case, your child’s tutor should be informed, in writing, in advance of any appointments or planned absences. If you prefer, there are electronic pupil absence forms on the Parent Portal.

Message from the PTA We were sorry to have to cancel the Dine & Disco evening due to low ticket sales. As an association, we are keen to hear views of parents about what kind of event they would like to see happen at KES in the future.

Please allow plenty of advance notice. Charlotte Country Day Exchange Parents’ Evening 18 September 7pm in the Hospitality Suite.

Do please contact Richard Congreve, Chair of the PTA on PTAChair@kes.hants.sch.uk with your thoughts.

Careers Day On Thursday 11 July all members of the Lower Sixth will be involved in a tailor made Careers Day in School.

Charities Commission News There is an exciting charity event taking place on the last day of term. We are once again supporting Sal’s Shoes, a small charity which distributes pre-loved shoes to children in need of footwear all around the world. This is where you come in. We are asking students to bring in their old shoes, that are clean and still in good condition, so that we can donate them to Sal’s Shoes who will distribute them to people in need in Africa, Asia, South America and the UK as well as other European countries.

As Sal’s Shoes is a relatively small charity and some donations are made up to 10,000 miles away, they need some help with their travel costs. Therefore, we are asking that every donation of shoes is made alongside a donation of £1, which will be passed on directly to Sal’s Shoes. We can accept a wide range of shoes and sizes, from baby shoes to adult shoes, as long as they are clean and wearable, they can be loved by someone else. Types of shoes that we will accept are: summer, winter, leather, canvas, trainers, party/ impractical, slippers and football/rugby/astro boots. As your child may be donating their school shoes, they will be permitted to wear their own shoes to school on that day, they do not need to be school shoes, just appropriate for a day in school. If you would like to find out more about the charity, please visit their website. Many thanks in advance for your generosity. 3
