Christmas Bulletin 21 December, 2017

T

his has been an exceptionally busy half of term marked particularly by a full sporting calendar, much work for charities and local partnerships, the sell-out performances of Beauty and the Beast and the wonderful singing of pupils at the Carol Service at Romsey Abbey.

Examination Certificates Certificates for examinations taken in the summer have now been distributed to Fifth Year and Sixth Form students through their Tutor Groups. These certificates are valuable documents and will be required for future university applications and prospective employers throughout your son/daughter’s working careers. They cannot be replaced. The certificates will need to be signed for and must be taken home for safe and secure keeping.

Students in the Upper Sixth and Fifth Year will have plenty of work to do as they prepare for the mock examinations in January. They will need a rest but some revision will also be necessary. We continue to appreciate your support with maintaining high standards of dress; we like students to remain smart at all times and one or two boys would merit a visit to the barber. Just one member of staff is leaving King Edward’s this term. Kevin Wright, our Head Groundsman at Wellington, is retiring after 13 years of service to the School and nearly 40 years working at Wellington and the neighbouring ground at Trojans. We wish him well and thank him for all that he has done for KES sport.

Jane Austen at Home 16 January 2018 at 7.00pm To mark the end of the English Department’s Jane Austen readathon, following the 200th anniversary of the writer’s death, we are delighted to welcome pupils and parents to a charming performance which celebrates the life, mind and writings of one of our greatest novelists. Devised and directed by Stephen Siddall, this one woman show has delighted audiences at a range of locations throughout England.

The new term begins on Tuesday 9 January and, until then, I wish you a Happy Christmas and a prosperous New Year. AJ Thould Head Master

Carol Service A big Thank You to all parents who sang so enthusiastically in the choir at this year’s Carol Service. It was really appreciated by music staff and pupils alike.

PARKING NOTES Would parents please refrain from dropping their children off at the Wilton Road gates as this causes congestion to staff and visitors coming on site.

At the request of the School’s Charities Commission, the collection was in support of CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young) in memory of Ben Smith and raised in excess of £1,300.

Also, in the interests and consideration for our neighbours, please try to keep your engine running to a minimum. 1
