End of Term Bulletin 12 July, 2019

O

ver the past few weeks we have had a huge array of activities including an excellent Arts Festival, a host of university open day visits, work experience placements, Duke of Edinburgh expeditions and preparation for the Fourth Year students as they consider their Sixth Form options. A wide range of visits and events organised for Endeavour occupied the penultimate week with much of this recorded in more detail in the latest issue of Konnections. Sports Day was blessed with fine weather and the Swimming Gala proved to be a very competitive occasion. As ever, the Allen Grant Inter-House competition has been fiercely contested right up to the final days of term! During the summer many students will be involved in activities abroad and in the UK including the Summer Camp in the New Forest, the Goedgedacht team in South Africa, an expedition to Vietnam, a cricket tour to India and the watersports trip in France, as well as further Duke of Edinburgh expeditions. Our thanks go to all of the staff involved in those trips – they will be giving up a lot of their holiday to make them work so well. Work is proceeding very well with our new Library. We are confident that it will be completed by the start of the autumn term and will provide much needed additional study space for our students and a lighter and more spacious environment with much improved facilities. Prize Giving is on Friday evening, the 13 September. The chief guest will be Simon Harmer. We thank Mr Wood, Rev Poppleton, Mr Allen, Mr Collins and Mrs Thould for all they have done for the School and wish them well as they retire after a combined 111 years of service to the School. We also wish Mr Shadbolt, Mrs Kairis, Mr Jennings and Mrs Roy well as they move to new roles after briefer periods at the School. I wish you all a restful holiday over the summer in this my final bulletin as I also retire and return to Cornwall, my home county, in August. A J Thould Head SIXTH FORM INFORMATION EVENING Thursday 17 October, 2019

CAR PARKING

This evening is an opportunity for external and existing Fifth Year pupils and parents to access information about examinations offered by the School and to start thinking seriously about their Sixth Form choices.

We would like to remind all parents that parking or obstructing the zig-zag markings outside the principal entrances to the School is a traffic offence. Please make a point of keeping these areas clear at all times, particularly when dropping off or collecting your children.

After short presentations by the Head and the Director of Sixth Form there will be opportunities to talk to staff and students about specific subjects and broader issues.

MUSICAL NOTES The music department will be welcoming the London Mozart Players to KES for a day of workshops in preparation for a side by side concert taking place on Thursday 10 October. The day will feature KES woodwind and brass players and welcome visiting prep and primary schools. The day ends with an exciting concert at 3pm in the Dobson Theatre. Friends and family are most welcome to attend. Finally, we are welcoming West End Les Miserables cast member, Rebecca Lafferty to give an afternoon of Masterclasses to our West Side Story production soloists on Sunday 15 September in the Dobson Theatre. Rebecca will be demonstrating the skills of performance and communication through song to our very talented cast before rehearsals begin for the West Side Story production in November. 1
