About Stroud School, King Edward VI Preparatory

In a beautiful setting on the edge of the market town of Romsey, you will find our preparatory school. Stroud School. Stroud is an exciting school, where boys and girls aged 3 to 11 years old thrive in its unique family environment.

Stroud school comprises of Early Years, Key Stage 1, Middle School and Senior School, and when you visit, expect to see pupils who are happy, respectful and honest. As our prep school, the curriculum is designed to achieve the highest academic standards, without compromising on the key skills our children need to be successful. Specialist teaching begins in Nursery with specialist sport, music, languages and computing, and this develops along with the children. With small classes, dedicated teachers and an exciting extracurricular clubs and activities programme, children are exposed to many activities which will hopefully ignite their passions. Additionally, there’s an outdoor pool, huge sports hall, riding paddock, dance studio, music practice rooms, a science lab, dedicated ICT suites for both KS1 and KS2 plus a Masterchef-style food tech kitchen and a newly-expanded Wellbeing centre. The school ethos and curriculum is centred around the Stroud Spirit values, which provide pupils with a strong sense of community; this character curriculum not only fosters creativity and curiosity, but it equips its children with empathy, celebrates individuality and encourages its children to live up to the school motto, in aeternum intrepidus – Forever Undaunted – every day.

Stroud has always been a school that believes in children thriving when they are happy and have plenty of access to the great outdoors. In a world where education is increasingly digitised, Stroud wants its children to flourish outside, whether that’s during Forest School sessions in the woods, conducting science experiments down by the ponds or caring for the school farm animals. Its farm is home to chickens (fed by the little ones), beehives and pygmy goats, which live alongside two ponies. There are large ponds used for pond dipping and ecology studies. Veg boxes sit just outside the classrooms and the school has held an Eco School Green Flag for 10 years, recognising our commitment to sustainability. Headmistress’s Welcome

I am delighted to welcome you to Stroud, King Edward VI Preparatory school, in beautiful rural Hampshire. We are the feeder school to King Edward VI, Southampton and offer the all-important foundations to a successful onward journey. Our ambition is to ensure our children flourish and become the very best version of themselves. We strive to uncover and nurture talents and passions, develop strength of character and promote a deep love of learning. We are hugely ambitious for our children, but do not believe academic rigour has to be to the detriment of a happy childhood. Thriving outside the classroom is just as important as innovating within it. If you’d like to find out more I’d be delighted to welcome you to Stroud, in person

Mrs Rebecca Smith, Headmistress

A Word From Current Parents

“I just wanted to thank all the teachers and school for all the hard work they put in with our children. My son is a different boy since he joined KES and that is for all good reasons. He has got so much confidence now. We are really happy with his overall learning and behaviour. He has truly made us proud and a big credit goes to the school. A big thank you to you and all the teachers!”

First Year Parent, May 2021

“I just wanted to write to say a huge thank you to you and all your staff for everything you have all done this academic year. As a teacher myself, I know how unsettling, and at times impressed at how it was dealt with. To know as a teenager that you have adults at school you can trust and go to is of real importance and I know that she truly appreciates it.”

chaotic, this year has been, but KES and its staff have risen to every challenge and continued to create high level, fun learning opportunities for the children.

I know I am lucky to have a hard working, diligent daughter who is harder on herself than any adult could ever be, but I am certain that it is the support, enthusiasm and quality of the teaching that is helping her really achieve her potential. I can see her truly blossoming at KES. More importantly though, is the nurturing and caring nature of the school, which I fear people often overlook. When my daughter had the smallest wobble last term and mentioned it, it was immediately acted upon and I was so

Second Year Parent, March 2021

“I feel so lucky and grateful that we are able to send our son (hopefully son number two in the future too) to your school.”
