Sixth Form Sports Scholarships


King Edward VI School would be delighted to receive applications for sports scholarships from talented sports men and women applying to join the Sixth Form. These new awards recognise the growth and success in sport at KES in recent years and will ensure that we can continue to build on the high levels of performance currently demonstrated by our students. Sport is thriving at the school with over three-quarters of the community involved in competitive sport at some stage during the academic year. Our sports teams have achieved a great deal of success and, in addition to numerous county titles, further achievements are: Indoor hockey: U16 boys’ national finals 2016, regional finals 2017, U16 girls’ regional finals 2015, 2016 & 2017 Boys’ hockey: U18 boys’ national last 16, U13 boys’ regional finals 2018, U16 boys’ regional final 2017, U14 boys’ regional semi-final 2016, U13 boys’ national finals 2016

Girls’ hockey: U18 girls’ regional finals 2014, 2015, 2017, U16 girls’ regional heats 2015, 2016, 2017, U14 girls’ regional semi-final 2015 Rugby: U15 last 32 national cup 2017, U13 last 32 national cup 2014 & 2016, U14 county champions 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017 Netball: U14 regional heats 2016, 2017, U16 regional heats 2017 Cricket: U13 national semi-final 2018, U15 last 16 national cup 2015, last 32 2016, U13 national cup 2017 An Elite Sports Performer Scheme was established 4 years ago which enables the sports department to support and further develop the most able sports performers at the school in their chosen sport(s). Scholars will automatically be members of this scheme.

Criteria:

Any other sports related achievements: (e.g. member of AASE programme, individual sports awards received)

Applicants will have competed at the equivalent to regional level or higher in their chosen sport or sports.

Process:

Candidates should complete and return the application form overleaf by Friday 1st February 2019. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend an interview with members of the sports department in school and staff from the sports department may ask for your fixtures so that we can watch you play in a competitive context.

Value of award:

The value of the award is at the discretion of the headmaster based on recommendation from the Director of Sport. It will depend on the quality of the applicants. As a Sports Scholar, you will: • Be expected to work hard to develop towards achieving your potential • Make a significant contribution to competitive sport at King Edward’s • Be assigned to a mentor within the Sports Department • Be a role model to all students at King Edward’s • Have access to top class sporting facilities The school will: • Support you in your everyday life at King Edward’s • Assist you with any training requirements as appropriate • Assist you in liaising with other parties in relation to your sporting development • Assist you in achieving your academic potential • Challenge you to work to achieve your sporting potential as well as achieving academic success
