Annual Athletics Sports Day 2019 Friday 28 June 1.00pm until 4.50pm on the School field Parents and friends are warmly invited to attend and we would be delighted to see you.

of fixtures. The long awaited Lower School production of The Wind in the Willows took place recently too with excellent performances from all involved. Internal examinations for the First and Second Years have finished and examinations for the Third and Fourth Years begin after half term. IGCSE/GCSE examinations are in full swing and A levels have begun in earnest. Students are busy with revision, or should be! Work is proceeding well with the extended Library and we are on target for completion by the end of the summer holiday. We are looking forward to seeing our pupils enjoy the additional space and atmosphere provided by the refurbishment. We have had 3D tours of the various School sites commissioned recently, do take a look here for the Hill Lane site, here for Wellington Sports Ground and here for your own personal expedition of our rural study centre, Lovaton on Dartmoor! In spite of examinations we have enjoyed a range of activities from Second Year Camps, Duke of Edinburgh and a very well attended Careers’ Convention aimed at both the Upper School and the Sixth Form. There is much to look forward to on our return with the Arts Festival, Sports Day, Endeavour, and the Swimming Gala. Most are subject, as ever, to the vagaries of the English summer weather. A J Thould Head

All events will take place during the afternoon, except Javelin which will need to be held in advance due to health and safety. Refreshments will be served in the Dining Hall.

All students should leave their iPADS at home on this day and are required on site until 4.50pm. If a pupil must leave before this time then agreement must be sought from their Head of Year in advance and the pupil will require a letter from home, also signed by their Head of Year. KETA buses will leave at approximately 4.50pm and there will be NO LATE BUSES

Uniform Event Stevensons will be in the Sports Hall on 10 July between 3-6pm with a full range of school uniform for sale. OBNO will also have good quality second hand items for sale at the same event. Current students may attend for a fitting session with Stevenson’s from 4pm onwards. We also have OPRO, a dental organisation that specialises in mouthguards visiting on the day. Click here for more information. 1

Maintaining a Balanced Perspective During Exam Preparation This is a busy time of year when all students have a focus on academic study and examination preparation which their teachers will have assisted them with. However, in order to give themselves the best chance of success in these examinations it is important that they maintain a balanced perspective and do not commit exclusively to academic study at the expense of all other activities. Articles in both The Times and The Telegraph have focused on the importance of this recently. Please support your child’s preparation by ensuring they have a balanced approach.

Once again the Creative Arts Faculty present #KESFEST, three days of performance, workshops, exhibitions, lectures, concerts and so much more. Throughout the three days pupils will have the opportunity to meet and work alongside professional artists whilst trying their hand at new creative skills and having fun! This year’s festival introduces two new evening events. Monday 24 June welcomes artist Martin Gayford, who will be giving a lecture in the Dobson Theatre at 4pm followed by a book signing. Enjoy the #KESFEST art exhibition after the lecture as the art department opens its doors and we can enjoy the art works produced by our talented KES students this year. On Tuesday 25 June we welcome the Paul Jordanous Ensemble giving a joint jazz concert with our very talented Big Band and Swing Band. The concert begins at 7.30pm in the Dobson Theatre and will be a fantastic showcase of our best jazz musicians working alongside this fantastic professional group. Tickets for both events can be purchased through TicketSource here.

The grand finale Street Theatre event on Wednesday 26th June will feature performances from our brilliant musicians in the Big Top whilst including the usual dazzling array of circus skills, bubbleology, balloon caricaturists, silent disco, assault courses, aerial display and face painting. The street theatre should have a real festival feel and pupils can immerse themselves in all creativity has to offer.

Summer Camp 2019

Non-uniform day will be held on 20 June in aid of the Honeypot Charity who work to enhance the lives of young carers and vulnerable children aged 5 - 12 years old. On the same day, the Charity Commission also hope to hold an ice cream sale and create a series of bumble bees built out of coins on the School field. Therefore, if you have any spare coins you could donate to make the field look spectacular, the commission will be collecting at reception after half term. All contributions will be greatly appreciated.

The Summer Camp trip is just around the corner and we are looking to add to our resources any of the following items to make the trip as memorable for the Young Carers as possible. Donations of Loom bands, Lego, outdoor games, balls/frisbees, old maroon KES hoodies, sleeping bags, roll mats, wetsuits (for children), beach shoes (for children), large tents and large plastic storage boxes with lids can be dropped off at the Science Office for the attention of Miss Downing. Many thanks in advance for your support.

Senior Pupils We are most grateful to Evie Wateridge for her leadership as Head of School over the last year, ably supported by her deputies Colin McCann, Becky Williams and Senior Prepositor, Eve Henley.
