King Edward VI School
Half Term Bulletin 19th October, 2011
W
e have had an excellent beginning to the new year with the Indian summer enabling splendid Junior House events and with plenty of hockey and rugby – beginning with the south coast Rugby tournament at Wellington. There was a wonderful ‘Unplugged’ music evening, an English National Ballet workshop, countless trips and visits and dozens of clubs and activities engaging hundreds of our students during the day and after school. Further details of the School’s activities may be found in the recently published Annual Review which will be shortly followed by Sotoniensis, our school magazine. On a staffing note, when Mr Herklots returns to School it is planned that he will take over the teaching of those classes formerly taught by Mrs Burrows. Any queries should be directed to Dr Purves, Head of Physics. May I take this opportunity to wish you a good break over the half term holiday and I hope that your sons and daughters will return refreshed for the second half of this always very busy term. CAR PARKING
Carol Service
We have been asked to remind all parents with regard to the zig-zag markings outside the principal entrances to the School. Following a City Council Traffic Regulation Order, it is an offence to park on these lines. Please make a point of keeping these areas clear at all times, particularly when delivering or collecting your children.
The School’s Carol Service is at 7.30pm on Monday 12th December at St. Mary's Church, St Mary Street, Southampton, to which you are warmly invited. The service is followed by mulled wine and mince pies. We don’t issue tickets for this event but would advise you that it is extremely popular and it has been known for latecomers to have to stand at the back!
Prior to the marking up of these lines, not only was there a critical problem of congestion at the School entrances but these areas were also unsafe for pupils on foot. This was particularly true at the Kellett Road gates, where the whole area in front of the Caretaker's House, to the road, must be kept completely clear of cars, as a safe zone for pedestrians only; while the gates themselves must be left clear for essential access to and from the School site.
2011 Toy Appeal A sponsored run will take place on 21st November for this years’ Toy Appeal in aid of local charity, SVS Family Projects. First Year pupils will be running around the school perimeter dressed as toys - a sight not to be missed!

Parents are advised to park further down Kellett Road or in Radway Road, Wilton Road and Kineton Road and make arrangements with their sons/daughters to meet them there and by using these alternative roads, parents can do much to ease the congestion at the end of the School Day.
