The Crest The School’s identity comprises the School Crest and a tagline. The tagline should always accompany the Crest. The digital images of the Crest are downloadable from the KES image bank. These are the only acceptable copies of the Crest that should be used. There are full colour, grey scale and black and white versions. The logo must not be stretched, rotated or distorted any way.

An exclusion zone is in place to make sure that other graphic material or type does not interfere or detract from the identity. Typically this will be no less than the width of the shield

The Tagline The tagline ‘Founded 1553’ should be placed centrally under the Crest and should always be in Lower Case in Arial typography. The default colour is blue but there can be variations using the School colours. Logo – the default should contain “Founded 1553” and those without this wording should be filed as specialist logos.

Positioning and co-branding When used with the name of the School, the Crest should always appear above the words King Edward VI School, Southampton. When used with additional logos, for example FSC or partnership organisations, the logo should appear to the left of these where possible. (See Sponsorship guidelines in staff handbook)

Typography The default font that should be used on all correspondence and publications is Arial. Abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz ABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ 1234567890 Publications can also use a range of sans serif fonts as a variation of this typography, namely Helvetica, Calibri, Aller, Quadraat.

The School name should always appear in Block Capitals in bold with Southampton placed underneath in a slightly smaller font size. This should also be in Block Capitals. KING EDWARD VI SCHOOL SOUTHAMPTON
Imagery Where possible, this should match the style of core publications. E.g. Prospectus, Annual Review.

Colour The School colours are blue, dark yellow/gold and dark red/burgundy. Pantone colours equating to these colours are:

Using the logo on coloured backgrounds When using the Crest on coloured backgrounds, the preferred background colour is white for maximum contrast, if it is not suitable to use the full colour version of the Crest (which has a transparent background).

Letter styles and document standards -
These will match these guidelines but separate guidance is available. All internal documents/publications should include a file path and name.
Approval and use of Printers All publications printed for external use should be discussed with Director of Communications who will consult with other key parties.
Website All text on Website should use the default sans serif web safe fonts i.e. Arial and standard styles provided. No coloured fonts or styles other than those prescribed should be used. Additional images should not be used on section home pages. Images shown should not include identifiable names of pupils.

Clothing and other Branding Branding Guidelines for Team Sports Kit 1. The colours for team kit will be maroon, navy and gold. The predominant colour on shirts will be maroon. Shirts do not have to contain all three colours if the colour is used in other parts of the playing kit, e.g. as shorts are navy then navy does not have to appear on shirts (but it can). 2. Shorts or skorts will be predominantly navy. 3. Team socks will be navy with maroon and gold hoops. 4. Each Head of Sport will be able to choose his/her own designs. 5. Within each sport, years 1 to 5 will play in one design and the seniors may play in a different design. 6. Cricketers will play in white but will ensure that any piping on the shirts is in the School colours. 7. All shirts will be crested with King Edward VI School, Southampton on the left hand side (this may need to move to the right if the shirt logo is on the left). 8. All team kit should be sanctioned by the Director of Sport before being ordered and it should always fit with the School’s branding guidelines. 9. Regular sports team playing kit will not include any sponsorship logos. (see Sponsorship guidelines in staff handbook) Staff Sports kit This will be predominantly navy with maroon and gold. KING EDWARD VI, SOUTHAMPTON will be printed on the back of the jacket in gold. The crest will appear on all pieces of kit, with KING EDWARD VI, SOUTHAMPTON, and STAFF written underneath the crest on the left hand side. In some cases the member of staff’s name will also be included, in capitals
