KES German and Music Tour of Vienna

16th – 19th February 2015


Itinerary Monday 16th February 5:45am

Meet at Southampton Central train station for departure at 6.15am to Gatwick airport. Bring packed lunch or money for lunch.

10:40am

Easyjet Flight 5357 departs for Vienna airport.

1:50pm

Arrive Vienna airport (local time) then public transport into city centre.

3:30pm

Arrive Meininger Hotel Downtown Franz.

4.30pm

Visit to St Stephan’s Cathedral and explore local area around cathedral, including Mozart’s House. Dinner in local area.

7:30pm

Vienna State Opera: performance of Barber of Seville or visit to Hotel Sacher.

Tuesday 17th February 9am

Walking tour of picturesque old town including many impressive buildings in a variety of architectural styles such as neo-romantic, neo-baroque, neo-renaissance and neo-gothic, and free time. Lunch in local area.

2pm

Guided Tour of Wiener Musikverein, home of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, incl. Golden Hall, then visit to further composers’ houses; Beethoven’s House, Stauss’ House.

6pm

Dinner in local area then Porgy and Bess Jazz Club.


Wednesday 18th February 9am

Visit to SchĂśnbrunn Palace.

1pm

Return to city centre. Lunch in the area.

2pm

Guided tour of Vienna State Opera followed by optional activities; Albertina Modern Art gallery, Haydn House, parks, various museums or free time.

Evening

Dinner in the local area, optional concert.

Thursday 19th February 9am

Free time with optional to visit Freud’s House or visit to House of Music.

11am

Depart Hotel for Vienna airport by public transport.

2:30pm

Easyjet Flight 5358 departs Vienna for Gatwick.

4:00pm

Arrive Gatwick airport (UK local time) then train to Southampton Central train station.

7:00pm

Arrive KES for pick up by parents.

NB: It is possible that we may arrive early if the traffic is favourable. Parents should be available to collect you up to two hours in advance. If we are early or late you can contact your parents en route. *******

Please note breakfast at the Hotel Vienna Downtown Franz is included in the cost of the trip but students should bring approx. 30 euros per day to cover the cost of lunch and evening meal.

Contact The first point of contact in case of an emergency is the trip leader, Mrs Allen (07917 262010) and the school (02380 704561). In an emergency parents are asked to contact the trip leader first who will be able to support the pupils appropriately. Omit the initial ‘0’ from the area code. From the UK to Vienna dial (00 43) + number.

Passports & EHIC cards Passports and EHIC cards will be kept with the named group leader for the duration of the trip. They will be given to pupils for border control only and will be kept in the hotel safe whilst in Vienna.

Pupil Code of Conduct The following rules will apply;  Students are representing the School at all times and must behave as such. Please be aware that the contract signed when joining the School is applicable on any School related venture.  Once allowed to disperse in groups, group size must be no fewer than 4 students.  When not within the grounds of the hotel, all students must carry their information card (to be supplied) in case of emergency and have their mobile phone switched on.  Students are entirely responsible for their own items of value and pocket money. Whilst in transit, students will be responsible for their own passports.  Students may only go into their own rooms in the hotel and may not leave them at night.  Bedtimes are to be adhered to – students will have one hour after the end of activities to get themselves ready for bed before ‘lights out’.  No student may purchase anything that could be deemed to be an offensive weapon e.g. knives, replica guns, fireworks etc. Any such items will be confiscated and disposed of in Austria.  Students must not buy or drink alcohol, or purchase cigarettes. However they may drink a glass of wine or a beer with their evening meal with staff present.  If a student has any concerns during the trip they should inform a member of staff before calling home. ANY BREACH OF THIS CONDUCT RISKS A SENDING HOME OF THE PUPIL AT THE PARENTS’ EXPENSE
