Spain
Where is FTK in Spain? Fellowship of the King is a family of evangelical-charismatic congregations in south-eastern Spain, currently in Nerja, Salobrena, Almunecar, Granada, Mojacar and Albox. Although FTK ministers predominantly to the ex-patriot communities of Southern Spain, the local fellowships have a vision to pray for, reach out to and see transformation in their local Spanish communities and beyond.

Christianity in Spain Christianity arrived in Spain, probably through the province of Granada, during the Acts of the Apostles. By about the third century the south of Spain had one of the highest concentrations of believers in Europe, but the faith gradually became distorted. From 711 Muslims from N. Africa conquered nearly all of the country, but here was some tolerance for Christian & Jewish communities. From the century, Spanish Catholic armies started the re-conquest of the country from the north, a task completed in Granada in 1492. The same year, Christopher Columbus was sent out across the Atlantic, and the Catholic faith followed into Central and South America.
Vision for Spain: •
To see southern Spain filled with knowing the glory of the Lord as the waters cover the sea (Hab. 2:14)
•
For us to know Jesus better and glorify Him with our lives
•
For us to love one another and function in our gifting in Christ
•
For us to make disciples who in turn disciple others
•
That we impact the society around us with the Good News
11th
During the 16th century, the Reformation started in Spain, but was quickly crushed by the Inquisition, with many believers being burnt at the stake. When Franco came to power in 1939 after three years of brutal civil war Catholicism was rigidly imposed until 1975 when democracy arrived. Now the Catholic church, which in Spain has been extremely intolerant, is emptying fast, although many still attend idol processions. Many young people just live to enjoy themselves but there is high unemployment and a huge problem with prostitution, plus alcoholism and drug usage. There may be 2 million Muslims (largely from Morocco) living in Spain. Their numbers are increasing, but the good news is there is growing interest amongst them in the gospel. There are certainly some Catholics who genuinely love Jesus but the evangelical church presently numbers less than 1% of the population. However, there is a flow of missionaries being drawn into southern Spain from Latin & North America and elsewhere in Europe, and prophecies too of Spain being reached from the south (Morocco!). We sense that God is preparing to move!
