“Covid” was done,
I first saw the buck on July 25, 2020 and knew that I was looking at an absolute giant. This buck consumed me, and nearly cost me my career, my health, my marriage, and my sanity. I saw him a few times in October, and was overcome with emotion when I was finally able to put my hands around his antlers. The buck I called “Covid”
but his legacy will live on forever.

My wife, Shelly Sayer, had taken a 417" bull in Idaho years before, so it was agreed upon that I would be up first this time. The bull I took was the fourth bull we had seen, and when we found him, Shelly regretted giving me the first opportunity! It took us a couple of days to catch up to him, and I did take a warning shot to make it fair, but I anchored him on the next one. What a bull!

Lewis Pozzuoli Buck buck was harvested by my Grandfather in the late 60’s in Colorado. Grandpa had never hunted big game, nor did he own a rifle. Grandpa bought a Winchester .32 Special and some bullets on the way to the ranch he would be hunting. opening morning, grandfather and the landowner drove up a dirt road and waited. Soon, a giant buck appeared and grandpa made the shot—the only big game animal he ever harvested!

David Blanton Buck These Kansas bucks are absolutely huge! David knew this buck, a typical 5x6 with some extras, was big, but he had no idea just how big. This buck seemed to grow after the shot and ended up having 39 inches of mass. The 6 ½-yearold giant scored a whopping 181 6/8 inches and is David’s 2nd largest buck taken with his bow.

I harvested “Mega” on the final day of general archery season in Western Oregon. I turned up this behemoth bull on a last-minute solo hunt close to home. Mega was a local legend, and my brother had years of trail camera pictures of him and lots of time invested in chasing him. I arrowed the bull after eight hours of cat and mouse in the thick coastal conifers. Thanks to my brother, Evan Cunningham of Coastland Outfitters, for teaching me how to hunt. harvested this archery buck in September of 2021. The buck lived on public land, and I had been after him for three years. I have tons of trail cams pics and video of him, and I put in an insane amount of time scouting. The second morning of my hunt, I found the buck bedded, and put a stalk on. The wind switched, and the buck took off but stopped for a moment at 30 yards, and that’s when I made the shot count. I ranged “Show Stopper” at 25 yards and let the arrow fly. After the shot, he took off down a rolling hill out of sight, when he failed to emerge on the opposite side, I knew he was down. The buck was the biggest deer I had ever put my hands on, scoring 187". With 12 scoreable points, split brow tines, and bases like pop cans, he carried the mass throughout his antlers. My 2021 whitetail season was over just as fast as it began.

I then waited to use my rifle on September 1st. Although my brother was unable to be there, we hiked in to find the bull. At 4:30pm, we found him, and I took a shot through a 10" opening at 400 yards and got him.

After five years of hunting this buck, we spotted him opening morning on a hillside on Buck Mountain. It was a perfect scenario—he was on one side of the canyon, and we were directly across from him. After a short minute to get into position to take the shot, it was finally time. At the crack of the rifle, the buck known as “Big Time” was down! We were thrilled to be able to hunt and harvest this great buck of a lifetime.

Indiana deer hunter Dustin Huff killed a buck last fall on November 4th that rivaled the world record! He took two weeks off work to hunt, but wouldn’t need it all. As Dustin climbed into his stand, it wasn’t long before the buck was at 40 yards, and Dustin settled his crossbow on the buck’s shoulder and released the bolt. “The buck went down, and I screamed!” said Dustin. With one week left to hunt, I made another trip back to Utah from Texas with my son, Willie. It was a great opportunity for some quality mother/son time and hopefully have some help packing mom’s elk. On day 2, we found our target bull. It was a long and steep hike through hip-deep snow to get close enough for a shot. At 450 yards, I settled in on my pack and made it happen. I’m so thankful to have spent this time with Willie.
