From Guy’s Campus On foot 35 minute walk: walk west along St Thomas Street, turn left into Borough High Street and then right into Southwark Street. Turn right into Blackfriars Road, cross Blackfriars Bridge, walk along Victoria Embankment to Temple Place. Turn right into Surrey Street then left into the Strand. By bus At London Bridge take the 521 towards Waterloo via Holborn. Or take the 381 to Waterloo, changing at Waterloo onto a 1, 4, 172, 171, 168, or 243. By underground Jubilee line to WESTMINSTER, then change and take the District line to TEMPLE. By boat From London Bridge City Pier take the Thames Clipper to Savoy Pier. From Savoy Pier, walk to the Strand.

From King’s Denmark Hill Campus By bus Take the 68 bus. By train and underground Take the London & South East Railway to BLACKFRIARS. Take the District or Circle line from BLACKFRIARS to TEMPLE. From Waterloo Campus On foot Walk across Waterloo Bridge and turn right onto the Somerset House terrace. The entrance to the Strand Campus is next to Somerset House on the left. By bus Take any bus that goes across Waterloo Bridge and get off at the Strand side of the bridge. By underground Take the Bakerloo or Northern line to EMBANKMENT, then change and take the District or Circle line to TEMPLE. From St Thomas’ Campus On foot Walk across Westminster Bridge and then along Victoria Embankment until turning left into Surrey Street and then into the Strand. By bus Take the 507 bus to Waterloo. At WATERLOO, change on to a 1, 4, 172, 26, 168, 243, 68, 171, or 59. By underground Walk across Westminster Bridge to WESTMINSTER and take the District or Circle Line to TEMPLE.

By boat – commuter river service From the west, Putney – Blackfriars: get off at either Embankment Pier or Blackfriars Pier From the east, Woolwich Arsenal – Savoy: get off at Blackfriars Pier Parking: no public parking, but a pay and display parking system operates in nearby streets including Surrey Street. Motorcycles: bays in the Strand, Arundel Street, Temple Place and other nearby streets. Bicycle stands: in the quadrangle of the Strand Campus.

The Defence Studies Department provides academic support to the UK Joint Services Command and Staff College (JSCSC) which is based at Shrivenham, Wiltshire. The College is situated off the A420 between Oxford and Swindon; the nearest rail station is Swindon.

The King’s shop
Most of the Strand Campus buildings directly overlook the Thames, midway between the Houses of Parliament and St Paul’s Cathedral, next door to Somerset House and the Courtauld Institute of Art and almost opposite the Royal Courts of Justice. Our magnificent Maughan Library in Chancery Lane is in one of London’s most distinguished Victorian buildings, formerly the Public Record Office. Within five minutes’ walk of the Strand are
Covent Garden, with its shops, cafés and opera house, many West End theatres, and Trafalgar Square, home to the National Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery.

Campus accessibility The Surrey Street properties are accessed by horizontal links connecting them to the Strand and King’s Buildings. The street entrances are not in general use, with the exception of the Norfolk Building and Macadam Building.
The main entrance to the Macadam Building is on Surrey Street. You can also get to the Macadam Building through the King’s Building and the Chesham Building. Lifts There are currently lifts available in: Strand Building, King’s Building (The East Wing lift is too small for a wheelchair user), Macadam Building, Norfolk Building, Maughan Library. please email design@kcl.ac.uk with any amendments and corrections to this guide
