Discover London Who is this course for? This programme offers students aged 16+ the chance to spend an unforgettable summer vacation living and learning in London. You’ll be based at the superb central location of South Bank University with easy access to all the sights plus spectacular views of the London Eye and Shard — Western Europe’s tallest building. Facilities are modern and wellequipped and include single en suite bedrooms.

Your classes

Social activities

English lessons will explore British culture — specifically, the history, politics and social economy of London. Your classes will take place at one of the main university buildings — recently completely renovated and just 5 minutes’ walk from your accommodation. The modern classrooms are all equipped with data projectors.

Our Discover London programme includes a weekly travel card (zones 1 and 2) so you can explore London in your own time.

Your meal plan A newly refurbished campus dining facility is just a short walk from the accommodation. Breakfast and dinner is provided every day with a choice of meals.

Your accommodation You will live at David Bomberg house — one of the residence facilities of South Bank University. The residence offers single en suite rooms with a private bathroom arranged in cluster flats, with a shared kitchen dining room for each flat. (Please note the kitchen is not available for cooking). There is also a social room and laundry facility on site. The residence is just 3 minutes’ walk from the nearest tube station (Borough) and is very close to London Bridge station. It is also within walking distance of the Tate Modern Gallery and the Globe Theatre.

Your programme includes 1 x organised full-day visit per week. You will also be able to join 3 x free evening activities per week, such as a movie night, disco, sports evening or quiz night. If you want to join other optional organised trips you can pay for these on a “pay-as-you-go” basis at the centre. Alternatively, the full package with activities and all excursions included is available to pre-purchase prior to arrival at the cost of £145 per person, per week. Thorpe Park Price: £58

Full day to Hampton Court Palace Price: £38

Windsor Castle is the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world. It has been the family home of British kings and queens for almost 1,000 years. It is an official residence of Her Majesty The Queen, whose flag flies from the Round Tower when she is in residence.

Thorpe Park is one of the top theme parks in the UK. Major attractions include a large water ride, a number of rollercoasters and dark ride Derren Brown’s Ghost Train.

Hampton Court Palace is a royal palace in the town of East Molesey, Richmond upon Thames, Greater London. Along with St James’s Palace, it is one of only two surviving palaces owned by King Henry VIII.

Full day to Canterbury and Cathedral Price: £36 Canterbury Cathedral is home of the Archbishop of Canterbury, leader of the Church of England. It had huge religious and political significance in medieval times, and its importance as a centre of pilgrimage increased further after the murder of Thomas Becket there in 1170.

The London Eye is a giant Ferris wheel on the South Bank of the River Thames in London. The structure is 135 metres tall and the wheel has a diameter of 120 metres. When it was built in 1999 it was the world’s tallest Ferris wheel.

The London Dungeon is one of the UK’s most popular tourist attractions, and recreates some of London’s most gruesome historical events! It uses a mixture of live actors, special effects and rides.

Madame Tussauds is a museum that contains waxwork models of famous people. You can visit a range of different collections, have your picture taken alongside A – list celebrities, and for something a little scarier brave the Chamber gallery where infamous serial killers lurk!

London’s Tower Bridge has become one of the city’s most iconic structures, and offers fabulous views from its glass-floored high-level walkways. A permanent exhibition explains the history and engineering of this unique Victorian bridge.

The Tower of London is a 900-year-old castle and fortress in central London that is notable for housing the crown jewels and for holding many famous and infamous prisoners. Throughout its history, the tower has served many purposes: it housed the royal mint, a menagerie, an armoury and barracks for troops.

St Paul’s Cathedral sits at the highest point of the City of London. The present church dates back to the late 17th century, and was designed by Sir Christopher Wren as was part of a major rebuilding programme after the Great Fire of London. It hosts some of the highest profile weddings and funerals in the UK.

Kensington Palace, whose first royal residents were King William III and Queen Mary II, was built in 1605 by Sir George Coppin. It has always been the home of one royal or another, and its most recent inhabitants were the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.
