Responsibility
We’re Committed to Fairness
Since the founding of the 'company for innovative extrusion technology' or 'KingspanÂŽ GefinexÂŽ' for short, in 1984, our business has evolved continuously in order to provide answers to the increased requirements of our society.
The world’s population and its demands are growing. In order to meet these enormous global challenges, huge social efforts have to be undertaken.
Looking now at our contribution as a company to a sustainable future, one thing is certain: we will not cease to keep on improving, to take on new challenges and realise the opportunities that arise.
Our contribution here is as follows:
In order to be successful we have a mutual understanding of what we do as a company and howwe act. Common goals and values form the foundation on which we drive forward as a team. We are the leading company for the production and development of innovative, foamed extrusion products made from polyethylene in Germany! But what exactly does that mean? The answer to this question can be found in our high number of products with which we have triggered something of a revolution over the last few decades. Above all, though, we have set new technical standards. Our actions combine economic success, social responsibility and protection of the environment. With research and innovation, we help our customers to fulfil the needs of society both in the presentand the future.
Environment and Climate To meet the fast-growing need for energy-efficient building materials. Raw Materials To maximise our efforts to protect the environment and preserve resources. Quality of Life To fulfil the wish for individual quality of life and meet the corresponding requirements for residential health. We depend on the contribution of every single person to meet these challenges. Each of us forms a part of our company and has an impact on the image of Kingspan Gefinex GmbH with their actions. The sum of everything that we do imbues our company with life.
Innovation
We’re Investing in Progress
With continuous investments in the latest technologies and permanent research work, Kingspan Gefinex GmbH is expanding on its position and securing jobs in Germany and Europe in the process. Our focus here is on the innovation of our employees. In our view, innovation is not just about improving or renewing our products, production processes and services.
We are building constantly on the creative power and experience of our employees, customers and suppliers, in the knowledge that innovation is only possible and worthwhile when we work together.
More importantly, it is about aiming to take integrated change of all conceivable possibilities into account, in order to guarantee our company’s objective of achieving ecological and economical sustainability – in terms of our social responsibility towards our employees, customers and suppliers, as well as future generations.
Innovation as New Ground We understand this to be the continuous development of all areas in terms of increasing efficiency both in an ecological and economical respect.
We can look back on a tradition of success here, giving us the impetus to face the challenges ahead with open eyes and to bring about solutions. From Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® foam overlays and underlays and their refinement, and flanking insulation strips, to Kingspan® Gefinex® Gefitas®, a bonded laminate made from a PE foam and a PE film, for waterproofing and as a moisture barrier, right through to Kingspan® Gefinex® Gefidehn®, an innovative expansion joint. Kingspan® Gefinex® GeficonTM is currently our latest development for the waterproofing of floor slabs, masonry and walls, using a bonded laminate made from a PE film with laminated fleece on both sides, which joins the bonded waterproofing membrane firmly to the substrate beneath. This tradition firmly reflects our mission statement 'Innovation creates dynamism and dynamism creates innovation'.
Innovation as Change Ongoing improvement, for the creation of competitive advantages, for the benefit of our customers and the needs of society with regard to modern products and companies – by that we understand 'change through innovation'. Innovation as a Head Start Responding to the permanently evolving demands on products, production processes and markets is in the focus of our understanding of innovation. Rather than being simply another challenge, we also see this as opportunity to gain the necessary lead through innovation.
Sustainability
We’re Investing in the Future
One of the fundamental goals of our company is the ecological and social sustainability of our operations. This involves the respectful and fair treatment of our employees, customers and suppliers, and, equally, a careful conservation of our resources.
Kingspan Gefinex GmbH manufactures products that offer a good price-performance ratio on the one hand and meet the highest standards of environmental compatibility and efficiency on the other.
We are driven by constant efforts to avoid waste and actively reduce levels of energy consumption – something that poses a permanent challenge. From processors to planners, architects and developers – anyone working with building materials manufactured by Kingspan GmbH is helping to stall climate change and protect the environment. Sustainability is a key integral part of our company’s strategy.
We take the entire lifespan of our products into consideration here, from the procurement of raw materials and production, to usage, and right through to disposal.
Sustainable Company Kingspan Gefinex GmbH develops products that precisely reflect the expectations of environmentally friendly and health-conscious consumers. Our products can be recycled and processed into new materials. This saves on resources – not only within our production process. Adherence to legal regulations and provisions is just a matter of course for our company as the realisation of customer requirements. In addition, we are working constantly to improve our operational environmental protection and optimise our products. At the centre of our environmental management is the principle of eco-efficiency.
With our company’s mission statement we have committed ourselves to using resources in a sustainable manner and reducing the impact of production processes on the environment at all times. The Kingspan Gefinex plant in Pritzwalk, Germany, is certified in accordance with international standards. Sustainable Customer Relations Kingspan Gefinex GmbH strives to achieve sustainable business relations with all its industrial customers and trade partners. The basis for this is a comprehensive understanding for the value creation processes and the needs of our customers, as well as developers and users. Of course, services such as training sessions, extensive sales tools and individual logistics solutions also form part of a comprehensive partnership. We value the open dialogue with our employees, customers and suppliers, as well as the authorities and the general public.

Waterproofing Membranes
Flanking Insulation Strips
A moisture barrier prevents moisture from passing via capillary transport processes into the floor construction or living space and causing detrimental effects as a result. It protects us from any damage to health that could be caused, for example, from mould formation.
A flanking insulation strip is used with all standard wet and dry screeds. It is applied at the perimeter edges and ensures the necessary joint spacing between the structural elements. It absorbs movement of the floor screed in the perimeter joints.
The Kingspan® Gefinex® Gefitas® PE moisture barriers have been developed by specialists and prove their established status every year with a laid surface area of more than 3 million square metres. There are no limitations to the choice of floor covering.
It also serves as an excellent acoustic decoupler to adjoining and pervasive structural elements.
The Kingspan® Gefinex® Gefitas® PE moisture barriers are installed in accordance with DIN 18195 Part 4 on top of floor slabs. They are made from a PE film and a closed-cell polyethylene foam, which protects the waterproofing membrane from damage and levels out any unevenness of the floor at the same time. Noteworthy features of the Kingspan® Gefinex® Gefitas® PE moisture barriers include their enormous robustness, high ductility, extreme temperature flexibility, very good vapour denseness and their exceptional chemical resistance. 4163 Assessed to ISO 50001:2011 Certificate number 0001 EnMS
The highly elastic PE Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® flanking insulation strip absorbs all movement of the floor screed, enabling it to 'work'. The Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® flanking insulation strips are heat-insulating and sound-insulating here, as well as acting as a moisture barrier. For 30 years we have been working to optimise our flanking insulation strips on an ongoing basis and develop new models. Our customers have access to the right product for any building configuration as a result. The highest degree of quality is not just a matter of course for us here. It is safeguarded by our quality assurance system.

Sheet Overlays and Underlays
Bonded Waterproofing Membranes
We produce XPE foam overlays and underlays for a range of different fields of use. From frost protection right through to parquet underlays – we have a diverse array of solutions in our product range.
The Kingspan® Gefinex® GeficonTM bonded waterproofing membranes are composed of a polyethylene film that is laminated on both sides with a fleece.
The concrete overlays protect the newly poured concrete from frost. In order to avoid any damage, our concrete overlays are placed immediately on the freshly laid concrete layer and kept there if possible throughout the entire hardening stage. The Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® PE TDZ - 6.0 -1.0 acts as a layer of footfall sound insulation. In order to avoid footfall noise, it is important that the floating floor screed does not come into direct contact with the adjoining structural elements. The Kingspan® Gefinex® parquet and laminate sheet underlays protect the floor covering from damage caused by unevenness and moisture. They also have sound-insulating properties. The Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® Basic PE foam insulating underlay has already proven itself some 100,000 times over and serves above all as a method of levelling out uneven substrates.
The bonded waterproofing membranes can be used individually or as part of a system, • • • •
beneath the floor slabs (UBD) on the floor slabs (ABD) on the basement wall and in the base area (W&S) as an outer wall barrier (MWS)
Kingspan® Gefinex® GeficonTM UDB is used to waterproof the floor slabs. It is laid prior to the concreting on a granular subbase and drawn up to the perimeter border. After stripping off the formwork, the waterproofing membrane is bonded with the concrete. The system accessories ensure efficient processing.
Profiles
Expansion joints in the floor screed confine the surface area of the screed, as well as reducing tensions that could lead to damage to the screed or floor covering. Such tensions in the floor screed are brought about by movement in the construction and swelling processes. In principle, it is recommendable to provide for an expansion joint in doorways, with floor screed surfaces with varying heating systems, and with U-formed or L-formed floor screeds. The Kingspan® Gefinex® Gefidehn® expansion joint profiles, made from PE foam, offer a high level of security and have been tried-and-tested in the real world for many years now.
The system includes: • Kingspan® Gefinex® GeficonTM ADB as an alternative moisture barrier on the floor slabs • Kingspan® Gefinex® GeficonTM W&S as a waterproofing membrane for the base area and basement wall • Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® building protection mat HD for preserving the Kingspan® Gefinex® GeficonTM waterproofing membranes fromdamage caused by backfilling of the workspace • Kingspan® Gefinex® GeficonTM MWS as an outer wall barrier for the highest standards in terms of denseness and processability
The Kingspan® Gefinex® Gefidehn® screed perimeter borders serve to create clean edges for staircases, galleries and pedestals, etc.

A Focus on the Individual
People are the focus of our actions – and of mine in particular. And I am not just referring here to the 100 employees of Kingspan Gefinex. Since its founding 1984, our company has grown into one of the leading producers and suppliers of foamed polyethylene building products and I have had the opportunity as Plant Manager to oversee and actively shape this development. My contribution here is centred on sustainable corporate development, especially in fair dealings with our employees, customers and suppliers, as well as a conservational approach to resources and the environment. A particularly major cause for me is to oversee the ongoing development of the Kingspan Gefinex production plant in the German state of Brandenburg and, in doing so, to create and maintain jobs in this region. In order to achieve this, it is crucial that my team and I always invest in the latest systems and production techniques. A fundamental part of my work is the fostering of each individual employee and optimising of team performance, with the constant improvement of our products in mind. Many of the innovations we have introduced and implemented in recent years have not only benefitted efficient technologies but also clearly demonstrated that ecology and economy benefits people and the environment. In my role as Plant Manager, security is right at the top of my agenda and has a special priority for the company’s management with regard to occupational safety, along with product quality and security. Together with my team, I stand for innovation and sustainability and I am sure that we can venture further down this road together with our customers – into a mutually successful future. Commitment for our Customers
As Team Leader of Trade, I am responsible, together with my colleagues in the external and internal sales force, not only for the financial success of our company, but also, more importantly, for the success of our customers in their distribution of our products and services. The needs and societal requirements placed on modern products and companies are what dictate our actions here. We sales employees act as points of contact both for customers and for internal departments. The values we stand for include collaborative partnership, high competence and reliability, as well as open communication based on finding solutions. This focus on solutions is, in my view, based above all in the development of markets through active demand creation together with the consultancy of architects and construction planners, and the conception of new innovative products by means of perceptive market observation. Conceiving marketing strategies for our products through close cooperation with our customers in the fields of trade and craftsmanship is a key component here. One of the most important remits in my job is commitment to the use of energy-efficient and above all sustainable products, which preserve resources and have the lowest possible environmental impact. With every consultation meeting I hold with building owners, architects, construction planners and retail traders, understanding for this issue grows, along with a willingness to find integrated solutions. Together with my team, I am dedicated to ensuring the high quality of Kingspan Gefinex products and their sustainability in production and application, and I look forward to every customer I can support in this respect. A Flanking Insulation Strip is used with all standard wet and dry screeds. It is applied at the perimeter edges and ensures the necessary joint spacing between the structural elements. The highly elastic PE foam of Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® Flanking Insulation Strips absorbs all movement of the floor screed, enabling it to 'work'. It also serves as a means of sound insulation for floating floor screeds.
overview Area of Use Joint spacing between the floor screed and other structural elements. Description Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® Flanking Insulation Strips were developed by the company Gefinex back in the early 1980s and quickly established itself as a standard product in the construction industry. More than three decades later, we are still working to optimise our Flanking Insulation Strips on a continuous basis and guarantee a high level of functionality. The Flanking Insulation Strip is simply placed up against or attached to the wall, before the levelling layer, insulating material or floor screed is introduced. The Flanking Insulation Strip should always be slightly higher than the overall floor structure. Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® Flanking Insulation Strip offers superb standards when it comes to security and functionality. The closed-cell, highly elastic PE foam safeguards a high degree of construction quality at the perimeter edges of structures. The Flanking Insulation Strip is heat-insulating and sound-insulating here, as well as acting as a moisture barrier.

Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® Flanking Insulation Strip with tape flap is the variant used most frequently in combination with floating floor screeds. It ensures that the screed really is only laid when it is supposed to be. At the same time, the Flanking Insulation Strip with tape flap has a sound-insulating effect and acts as a moisture barrier. Once the Flanking Insulation Strip has been installed against the wall, the tape flap is simply laid onto the insulating layer. Subsequently the screed film is laid, after which the floating floor screed can be introduced.

Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® staple Flanking Insulation Strips are subject to a special type of production. Until it they are used on the building site, they are only half as thick and yet double the height of its final state once installed. The lower half of the Flanking Insulation Strip is stapled onto the wall, whilst the upper half is then simply folded down.
pE t-rDs staple flanking insulation strip the problem-solver
pE t-frDs staple flanking insulation strip with tape flap the ultimate one
This prevents any sound bridges from being created at a later stage. The central slit makes it easy to fold over the strip, as well as ensuring that corners are insulated without any cavity space. Once the Flanking Insulation Strip has been folded down, it arrives at its 'correct dimensions', meaning that further construction work can then take place. Areas of Use Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® staple Flanking Insulation Strip can also be used around the edges of all types of industry-standard floor screed (excluding asphalt screed). It is particularly useful in cases where significant joint spacing needs to be achieved around the edges without the involvement of any adhesion or the instalment of any other flanking insulation strip. Its special construction means that it can be stapled to the wall without a sound bridge being created. The Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® staple Flanking Insulation Strip also ensures that corners are insulated without any cavity space. Product Properties Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® staple Flanking Insulation Strip is made, like all other flanking insulation strips, from closed-cell, highly elastic PE foam. It also features a central slit so that it can be easily folded down. The staple Flanking Insulation Strip is also available with a welded-on film flap meaning that it is also suitable for floating floor screeds.

Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® PR 5/50 Mini Plus was developed in order to allow for further work including, for example, modernisation, once the oor screed has been laid. The Flanking Insulation Strip is installed on top of the screed layer.
Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® SK is perfect for the airtight connection between two different structural parts. Whether wood, masonry, concrete or steel – the particular type of substrate is irrelevant.
pr 5/50 Mini plus the saviour
sk acoustic Decoupler the well-balanced one
Due to the fact that it is affixed to the screed with an adhesive strip, the Flanking Insulation Strip is stable and aligns itself evenly along the wall. No additional mounting onto the wall is required. After completion of the priming or levelling layer and after the ooring has been laid, the protruding PE foam is then trimmed down ush with the level of the ooring.
Simply paste the whole surface of the strip on a clean and dry area and connect it with the second structural element. The SK strip serves the purpose of sound decoupling in this constellation, as well as forming an airtight joint.
Areas of Use Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® Flanking Insulation Strip PR 5/50 Mini Plus is a Flanking Insulation Strip for mineral priming and levelling layers. It is used in those cases where normal Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® Flanking Insulation Strips are not high enough for the levelling layer or where the strips have already been trimmed down. Product Properties The PR 5/50 mini plus is made from PE foam with a stable base made from HD foam. The base is coated with an adhesive layer underneath. The PE foam is elastic in the long term, does not absorb any moisture and does not merge with the other priming or levelling layers.
Product Information
Areas of Use Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® SK is ideal for levelling out any unevenness between different structural elements. Moreover, it also acts as a sound insulator in this constellation. Product Properties The Kingspan® Gefinex® Geficell® SK acoustic decoupling strip is made, like all other perimeter insulation strips, from closed-cell, highly elastic PE foam. It is also coated on one side with a self-adhesive layer.

installation guideline for Kingspan gefinex® geficon® floor and wall waterprofing systems ®
®
Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Waterproofing System Waterproofing beneath the floor slab against rising ground moisture (18195/4) 1. Preparing the substrate The substrate must be level, of sufficient load-bearing capacity, smooth and free from rigdes and objects. Possible substrates on which to lay the membrane: blinding layer of concrete, load-bearing substrate of gravel sand or underground perimeter insulation boards. When planning, it must be ensured that no reinforcing bars running from the foundation into the floor slab penetrate the waterproofing layer. 2. Adjusting the corners ® ® Place the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Inner and Outer Corners into the corners of the slab formwork and fasten them to the blinding layer using a mineral building adhesive. ®
®
3. Laying Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips on the formwork walls ® ® Lay the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips all the way around on the insides of the formwork walls. They must overlap the blinding layer by at least 10 cm. Cut into the overlap in the corners and guide it around the corner without wrinkling. Leave an overlap of at least 7 cm at ® ® the short-end joints of the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon ® Formwork Strips and glue them with Kingspan Gefinex ® Geficon Sealant & Adhesive as follows. Apply a 1 cm thick ® ® bead of Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive ® ® into the overlap and press the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips firmly together using a hand-held roller. ® ® Fold the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips over the top edge of the formwork and fasten it down e.g. using chamfer strips. ®
®
4. Laying Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Membrane over the area ® ® Lay the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon UDB Membrane sheets loosely over the area and join them together using the integrated adhesive strips along the long edge (overlapping by at least 7 cm). Overlap at the short ends (by at least ® ® 7 cm) and glue using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive as described in Point 3. Lay the Kingspan ® ® Gefinex Geficon UDB Membrane loosely over the ® ® Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Formwork Strips. The Kingspan ® ® ® Gefinex Geficon UDB Membrane and Kingspan Gefinex ® Geficon Formwork Strips must overlap by at least 7 cm. ® ® Tip: lay the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon UDB Membrane sheets simultaneously with reinforcement mesh so that the membrane lies securely when it‘s windy.
5. Applying spacers for area-wide reinforcement Apply raised, flat-lying spacers over the entire area as a support to reinforce the slab. (E.g. fibre concrete snake or bar spacers) ®
®
6. Connecting the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Waterproofing System to pipes and penetrations Cut out penetrations for empty conduits or wastewater ® ® pipelines into the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane as precisely as possible using scissors or a ® ® cutter knife. Then slide the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Cuff ® ® over the pipe. The collar of the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon ® ® Cuff should rest on the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor ® Membrane without wrinkles. Glue the Kingspan Gefinex ® ® ® Geficon Floor Membrane and Kingspan Gefinex Geficon ® ® Cuff together using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive as described in Point 3. Alternatively, seal off wall ® ® penetrations using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Fastening ® ® Tape. Rest the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Fastening Tape on the pipe above the level of the slab, overlapped by ® ® at least 7 cm over the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane, and press it onto the contour of the pipe. Guide strips around the pipe with an overlap of at least 3 cm. When planning pipes and empty conduits, make sure the pipes are at least 10 cm apart from each other. Distance from wall: at least 20 cm. 7. Visual inspection Conduct a visual inspection before pouring the concrete slab. Any damage must be repaired. Seal off any holes or ® ® tears in the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane. ® To do so, glue a sufficiently large piece of Kingspan Gefinex ® Geficon Floor Membrane onto the damaged area using ® ® Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive. 8. Pouring the concrete slab Pour the concrete in the direction of the overlapping seams, so that the overlaps cannot be forced open by the pressure of the concrete. 9. Waterproofing the corners After removing the concrete formwork, glue Kingspan ® ® Gefinex Geficon Duct Tape into the corners above the ® ® level of the slab using Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive as described in Point 3.

Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Waterproofing System Waterproofing of the building basement wall and plinth area against rising ground moisture and non-accumulating seepage water. 1. Preparing the wall The wall must be free of loose components, release agents and other contaminants. Smooth out bumps, transitions and irregularities in the wall using mortar. 2. Gluing on the basement wall and plinth waterproofing ® ® Lay the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane (preferably horizontally) around the building and glue it in place using a mineral building adhesive. Begin with the bottommost sheet, making a connection with the Kingspan ® ® Gefinex Geficon Floor Membrane on the edge face of the floor slab. Overlap by at least 10 cm. Lay the Kingspan ® ® Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane immediately after the with application of the building ® ® adhesive. Push the Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane strongly into the glue using a smoothing trowel. Avoid cross-joints in the waterproofing system. Glue horizontally overlapping joints over the entire overlapped surface using mineral building adhesive.
6. Applying the perimeter and plinth insulation boards ® ® Glue Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane directly to the perimeter insulation boards using building adhesive for insulation boards. (Do not use solvent-based adhesives.) Apply perimeter insulation boards for the basement wall and plinth area onto the waterproofing as recommended by the manufacturer. We recommend placing the Kingspan ® Gefinex Protective Mat in front of the perimeter insulation boards before properly backfilling the pit.
3. Making the vertical overlapping joints Make vertical points of contact, e.g. at the short ends of the sheets when laid horizontally, overlap and glue them using ® ® Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive as follows. ® ® Apply a 1 cm thick bead of Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Sealant & Adhesive into the overlap and press the Kingspan ® ® Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane firmly together using a hand-held roller. Overlap at least 7 cm. 4. Visual inspection Conduct a visual inspection before laying the Kingspan ® ® Gefinex Geficon Protective Mat or gluing on insulation boards. Repair any damage! Fix any holes or tears in the ® ® Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Wall Membrane. innovation is our passion
With our products, our company has set examples and trends that have made positive changes in the building trade. We want to continue to do so in future and, as Product Manager, I have accepted the challenge of helping shape this course. We work together with architects, installers and building owners in order to continually improve our products and to make them safer and easier to use. That means sometimes we even break away from convention. A good example of this ® ® is the development of the 'Kingspan Gefinex Geficon Waterproofing System'. Together with planners, installers and the materials testing institute MPA Braunschweig, we developed this waterproofing system for the basement wall and floor slab. It is an all-round 'care-free package' that brings all the advantages of a coordinated waterproofing system. Architects need not worry about how they are going to find and coordinate different products, and installers need not worry about working conditions – the waterproofing can be laid in just about any weather. Our focus is on developing and manufacturing practical construction products for noise and moisture protection in building construction. With innovative and intelligent system solutions featuring modern materials, we will continue to make building methods not only better, easier and safer in future, but have also pledged, for ourselves and our raw material suppliers, that our products will protect our natural resources so that the building owner can truly enjoy 'healthy living'. My colleagues and I are dedicated to developing innovative and sustainable products within our company, so that we and our customers recognise not only the present but also the future needs and thus follow a common path towards a successful future.
