Although somewhat lively at times, our team of Library Assistants and Monitors do a tremendous job in helping us run the Library during hectic lunchtimes. Our existing team of James Cope, Carl Gardner, Glynn Hurrell, Joe Scarborough, Alfie Simpson-McCaffery and Joe Wakerley have been joined by Max Adams, Sam Hyde, James Kearney, Josh Payne, Nathan Read and Patrick Rusk. Many thanks lads – we couldn’t do it without you!
We are taking part in an Amazing Adventure Series Award run by READ – a group of Lincolnshire-based School Librarians, and we need you to vote for your favourite series. You can also enter into a book review competition. If you haven’t read any of these series we have them all in the Library, together with further details of the competition and voting slips.

Reading Passports .
At the start of the school year we introduced the Rooted in Reading Passports. Most of the Year 7 forms worked through their Transition Reading Passports during their last few weeks at primary school, over the summer holidays and during Term 1. They have now moved on to the Green Passport. Years 8 and 9 should still be working through the Red Passport. Don’t forget to get your passports stamped in the Library. A merit is awarded for each complete page.
Second hand book sale in aid of Children in Need. When? Lunchtime Friday 20 November Where? in the Library Bring your unwanted books to the Library any time during the week beginning 16 November.

National Poetry Day To celebrate National Poetry Day lower school forms had a go at Tag Poetry.The theory was that a student would come up with a line of the poem then “tag” a form colleague to continue with another line. By all accounts some forms were more successful than others! The theme for this year was Heroes and Heroines and 8D won with their poem. The Battle of Fantasy The wind blew, and the trees shook And the leaves came spiraling down And in came Captain Hook His hair was long and brown. Peter came in with his dagger small As lightening flashed across the sky. Hook had a plan to overhaul All Peter could do was try. Then came the crocodile, tick, tock, tick, tock His teeth were long and sharp And Hook heard the ticking clock He likes to catch carp. Then came the pirate ship The pirates were very fierce And then they went for a dip And they had loads of beers! And in came a smurf And with a flash and a bang, he went again And randomly gave birth!
Year 7 Reading Challenge Mr Lockwood and 7C have kicked off this year’s Reading Challenge by reading a staggering 121 books in 7 weeks. Jacob Storey read 12 books and was awarded his Certificate of Excellence. Sam Bell, Daniel Blair, James Clack, Jonathan Cook, Ben Gott, Euan Hogg, Thomas Isler, Sam Lee and Jack McCallum all read 6 or more books and achieved their Certificate of Merit. 7C are now challenging Mr Hinchcliffe and 7A to beat them!
Scholastic book orders
You can now order Scholastic books from the C2C Catalogue and their other selections online at: clubs-school.scholastic.co.uk/thekings. Every order you make helps us to receive free books for the Library. If you select the school delivery option postage is free. Please order by 8 December for delivery by Christmas.
Warhammer Club is still thriving. Held in the Library after school on Tuesdays, it attracts 20-30 boys from all years. In January we are expecting a visit from the staff at Warhammer World to see how the Club operates. In March 2010 three teams will be once again participating in the Regional Schools Finals at Games Workshop, Nottingham.
Homework Club From mid-September the Library began a trial of extended hours, staying open until 6pm each school day. We are in the process of collating the numbers using this facility to see if it is worth continuing in the New Year. Please let the Librarians know your views on this.
Library Webpages and Online Catalogue The Library webpages can be found on the school website: www.kings.lincs.sch.uk under the School Information section. We have pages about the Library, study skills, careers information, the school archives ... take a look. You can search the Library Catalogue from any school networked computer by selecting Library Portal in the Internet Explorer favourites list. Once on the home page of our Library Catalogue you can perform a search by selecting Searchstar.
