TO THE CLASS OF 1994: You will be remembered as individuals for the independence of your thoughts, the variety of your talents and the different courses of action you have taken. You will be remembered as a class for your leadership - particularly in raising our consciences about social issues and in participating with a high level of commitment in school activities and in athletics. Perhaps your greatest contribution is that you are leaving the upper school of KLHT a stronger place than when you entered it. That is an accomplishment we deeply appreciate. It is also a worthy legacy upon which others can build. Please let us hear from you often. Elizabeth Rockwell Cesare Head of School

would like to dedicate the 1994 Yearbook to the faculty that keeps this school running. They are the backbone of our education and he reason why KLHT is so special. Through the years they have served as our role models, our disciplinarians, our educators, and most imortantly as our friends. Their caring for and dedication to the student body are unsurpassable, and they all deserve to be recognized for aeir involvement. Thank you for all the support you have given yet another amazing senior class, and may there be many more to come.

We

In the beginning of the year, the upper school students departed for their annual class trips. The purpose of these trips is to create a sense of togetherness among the individual classes. This is also a great way for students to learn outside of the classroom and appreciate nature. The freshmen didn't travel very far but still managed to have a good time in Pound Ridge, NY. The sophomores this year journeyed to New Jersey where they tested their

Ingenuity in building a raft with few materials and crossing the lake. The junior class while in upstate Connecticut got acquainted with a challenging ropes course. The seniors made their way to Boston, where they took a historic tour of the beautiful city. At the end of the trips, all the classes could truly say that they had indeed become much closer to one another. Class trips are a valuable asset to each class, and hopefully will keep on being so in the future.

One of the many times our school comes together is during the Pep Rally. The Pep Rally is one of the greatest examples of team and school spirit. This year's ceremonies were conducted by Jam ie Turner and our ferocious Viking, Gillian Glover. All of our teams were introduced by their coaches, and each met with rousing applause. The teams announced their victims and gave a special team cheer. The Pep Rally got the whole

school riled up to go out on Homecoming and destroy their opponents. But the firing up did not stop there! The festivities carried on over to the night when the bonfire was held, a perfect ending to a great day. When the fire was lit up the dummy was thrust into the flames, and the whole school came together to celebrate and kick off Homecoming weekend. In the words of one student, "Get psyched."

On October 30th, fall sports were celebrated in an event we call Homecoming. This year every sport played and, very importantly, had fun. The day began with theJV boys soccer team taking the field against Greens Farms Academy and was capped off with a Vikings varsity football victory opposing Dalton. All would agree that the weather was not

spectacular, but that didn’t put a damper on school spirit. Many people came out to give their support to our teams. The spirit of sportsmanship and competition was very much alive. Each team gave its best effort, and many were successful. As one person was overheard saying, "We can be very proud of KLHT sports. We’ve come a long way."

The arts are alive at KLHT. The school’s best talents are showcased during the fall Cabaret Night and when the one-act play are performed. The Cabaret night was led by the musical theatre workshop participants: Michelle Miner, Doris Poma, Elena Costa, Paola Lopez, and Melissa Minoff. It was composed of students from the middle school and the upper school. The highlight of the night was a comical rendition of Grease Lightning. At the end everybody was fully entertained and the performers felt proud of what they had accomplished. This year there were two one-act plays put on. One was directed by Mrs. Boo Forster and the other by senior Sanjit De Silva. Mrs. Forster’s play was a drama called “Trifles,” and her actors were a young group of freshmen and

sophomores. Even though they had a little trouble with their first time performers, they showed the school that they had the potential to be great actors. The cast was comprised of Peter Karayianais, Laura Steinmann, Colin Cohane, Jerem y Weinstein, and Rachel Sedgewick. Sanjit De Silva’s play was a comedy called “ Hooray for Adam Spelvin!” The ensemble included Brian Robinson, Kevin DeVogel, Tenisha Ramsey, Randy Shushan, Maria Sette, and Jen Klein. The play was a roller coaster of laughter which broke many boundaries as it went along. It was truly a memorable performance which even included a striptease by Kevin. Hopefully the success of both plays will encourage more people to showcase their acting talents.

There is truly nothing to do today but smile, smile, smile and don't these students know it! Why are these students so happy? Could it be the fact that we've had so many days off because of the snow or that school will soon be over?

Anyway, these strange new lip conditions, known as smiles, hap pen to be very contagious. Well, smiles do make for a happy school environment, and what more can you ask for? Just make sure they're not laughing at you!

Below: What are you, trying to smile? Left: Ugh . . . I swear I didn't touch him Karine, I swear.

fic tio n V arsity Football has finally com e o f age. They had a very successful season this year. The football team finished with a record of eight wins and two losses. The football team beat such rivals as the Brunswick Bruins by shutting them out 14-0. That marks the first victory football has had against Brunswick in tw enty-five years. They also defeated their hom ecom ing opponent D alton by a large m argin.

Their record was good enough to send them to the New England Championship

Tournament against Pomfret Academy. The Viking football team lost the championship due to a controversial call made by the ref eree. Overall, the team had an exciting sea son and in our hearts they will always be champions. This year, seniors Aaron Johnson and Basil Greenwood made All-League, as well as ju niors Alex Vandervort and Marc Hoffman. Seniors Peter Kirill and Lassier Davis, along with juniors Brett Lynas and Mike Henry, all made Honorable Mention.

Co-C aptains Lara Corrente and Dee Dee D orf led this

All o f these four players also represented the school at the A ll-Star gam e. Varsity Boys’ soccer had a very successful season this year. This team held its own against very strong opponents such as Hamden Hall and Brunswick. The boys’ varsity soccer team was quite an enjoyment to watch, whether it meant the goalie block ing a free kick or pulling out a victory in double overtime with time expiring. This

year’s team was led by four year veteran Marcus Loyola and the very talented Marc Levitt. Their leadership and all around team effort gave the varsity soccer team a play off berth. Even when the game looked as if it was out of reach, the team kept their heads up and played with an intensity that hasn’t been achieved in years.

This year’s girls’ soccer team was all about fun. They came into this season with a feeling of excitement and a goal to become a team that enjoyed what it was doing. The team was led by co-captains Marina Supple and Anna Murphy. This team was able to accomplish their goals, and they also made a

Vdleyball Girls’ volleyball had an exciting year though it might not have been reflected on their record. The volleyball team was much younger than last year’s championship team, and their opponents showed no mercy. However, even with the loss of quite a few seniors, the less experienced team still man aged to give opposing teams a tough time. With the young talent on this team, three

freshman starters, there is plenty of room for growth. The team was led by senior captain Melissa Roselle. These women gave it their all and captured the excitement and spirit of KLHT volleyball. This team sent three members to the all-star game: Melissa Ro selle, Laura Steinmann, and Soulafreda Valassis.

( icss-Ccuritiy This year’s cross-country team was one of very little experience and much youth. There were only two seniors on the team, Sanjit De Silva, this year's captain, and Brian Robinson. The rest of the team was comprised of sophomores and freshmen. They came into this season with one goal in mind - to show the rest of the league that they were a team to be respected and dealt with. They ended up with a winning season and placed two runners on the honorable mention category at the FAA Championship run. These two runners were Brent Simon and Brian Munk.

Hopefully this duo will bring futur success to the team. Meanwhile, the girls’ cross-country did not have enough participants to make up a team, but still competed and scored consistently in the top ten in every race. The team, consisting of Kirstie Baker (Captain), Charlotte Christensen, and Beth Van Dusen, showed total effort in competition. Beth Van Dusen ended up winning every race throughout the year while capping her amazing season with a first place at the championship race. We wish the team the best for next year.

Cteeileadir^ This year's squad was the vanguard for cheerful exuberance. They were the sparkling twinkle in the football player's eyes. They helped to rally the spirit of the school at every game and were essential in getting the players psyched up. The cheerleaders were led by senior captains

Renee Osorio and Elena Costa. As far as we are concerned the whole squad is definitely All-League in our eyes. Good job, guys, you deserve it. We thank them for showing us total school spirit. Gimme a K . . . give me a L . . . Well, you can figure out the rest.

Varsity Keys’ Basketball This year KLHT basketball has really come into its own. Led by senior captains Aaron Johnson and Basil Greenwood, the team has been exciting to watch. Even with the loss of last year's seniors , the Viking basketball team has maintained their

commitment to excellence. The team's great balance between experienced seniors and new rising talent poses a serious threat to opposing teams. The team’s success is also due to Coach N agle’s confidence and belief in the players.

This year's hockey team was led by junior captains Brett Lynas and Jim Taber. The team came into the season with something to prove; they wanted to show their opponents that they were for real. Hockey has definitely

arrived at KLHT. The whole team gave a hundred percent throughout the year. They proved themselves worthy of being one of the hardest working KLHT teams. Keep up the good work, guys, and good luck next year!

Marcus: I know I haven't always been the ideal mom. I’ve made some mistakes along the way . . . I've hurt you when I didn't mean to, helped you when you didn't want my help, held on too tightly when you needed me to let go a little. Even now, I know I’m not always the kind of mom you'd like me to be. Sometimes I do too much . . . sometimes, not quite enough. But I hope you know, Marcus, I've always done what I thought was best for you, even when I've made mistakes, I've always, always, acted out of love.

It seems like only yesterday when you started school,

And you know Honey, Sometimes I have to smile and think I did a few things right . . . because just look at the wonderful young man you've become, MOM

And today you're graduating. Congratulations!

We arc very proud of you and all your accomplishments. Just remember you CAN DO anything you put your mind to. Wishing you every success in the years ahead!

Love always, Mom, Dad and Duffy

Best wishes to the Class of 1994 !

Missy,

(Don't stop reachingfo r the Love, Mom, Dad, After these years of lectures heard, Of papers read, of hopes deferred, Of days spent in the dark stacks hi learning the impervious facts So well you can dispense with 'em Now that tiie fmal day has come When you shall answer name and date Where fool and scholar judge your fate What have you gained? A learned grace And lines of knowledge on the face, A spirit weary but composed By true perceptions well-disposed, A soft voice and historic phrase Sounding the speech of Tudor days, What ignorance cannot assail Or daily novelty amaze, Knowledge enforced by firm detail. What revels w ill these trials entail! What gentle wine confuse your head While gossip lingers on the dead Till all tire questions wash away, For you have learned, not what to say, But how the saying must be said.

NicoCe and<PhiC
