Mission Statement

King k Low-Heywood Thomas School

It certainly is an honor for me to have my thoughts included in this yearbook. I find the theme - "From a Different Perspective" - particularly appropriate. In 1990,1 left King & Low-Heywood Thomas School after a seven-year tenure as an English teacher, coach, and the Director of Athletics. Returning this fall, twelve years later, certainly affords me a new perspective on the school. During my time away, KLFiT has developed in many respects. The academic program is more varied, offering far more opportunities for individualized and accelerated study. The arts and athletic programs have grown in scope and depth, and there are more clubs and activities. The school is bigger, more widely rec ognized, and more diverse than it was when I left. In many ways, it is a more complicated and sophisticated institution. On the other hand, the substantive core of the school has remained the same. There are strong relationships between students and teachers. There is a focused pursuit of educational excellence. Individuals are valued, and there is a premium on respectful, thoughtful interactions, from our

youngest pre-kindergarten students all the way through to the seniors in our Upper School. I want to thank this senior class for making such a genuine effort to wel come me to the KLHT community. You have sought me out, made time to talk with me, and allowed me to feel a part of your KLHT experience, and I appreciate the opportunity.

Further, it has been a pleasure to be a part of the great successes you have experienced. As a class, you are a diverse group: academically tal ented, artistic, athletic, involved, and community oriented. I have enjoyed hearing about your academic accomplishments and observing firsthand your excellence on the stage, on our playing fields and courts, and in the - many other areas of your lives as seniors. ill

Jk In addition, it is clear that you appreciate and enjoy your friendships with each other and others at KLHT. It is my hope that you will carry this weappreciation and enthusiasm with you as you move into the next stage of n your lives. We are all lucky to have had you here, and we look forward to 1 watching your progress in the future. Ik: Sincerely, riel !sfc:

"Two roads diverged in a wood, and I - /I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference." As Robert Frost so eloquently expresses in his famous poem, our life is full of choices that shape our perspectives. In turn those views will cause us to make certain choices. As individuals, as a school community, and as global citizens, we all have to face certain crossroads in our lives. This year the seniors completed a significant milestone in their lives while our school completed its fifteenth year as King & LowHeywood Thomas School. Our new headmaster, Tom Main, brought a new perspective and vision when he returned to KLTIT after a sixteenyear absence. A portion of the KLHT mission statement reads, KLHT s culture of respect for one's self and for others promotes independence and collaboration." Our school community is one that values and respects the perspectives and ideas of all its members, creating a diverse, vi brant learning community dedicated to educational excellence and the fullest academic and personal achievement of our students." This value is what allows us to enrich our education while we grow as individuals and as a school. Each fall, everyone starts off the year one notch higher than when he or she left. When the seniors started this year, they had reached the final and highest rung of the ladder. It was their newest and final perspective as students at KLHT. Every year after that, the Class of 2003 will have the view of alumni, looking back on their days at KLHT. This senior class is a talented, creative, diverse group with interesting views on life and the world around them. They have made many contributions to the KLHT community, and will be missed in the future. We need to maintain perspective as we face the present chal lenges in our global community and remain mindful of the needs and concerns of others. The events that shook our nation in 2001 and the war that followed, shocked us as we learned how others viewed us as a people and as a country. Not only is this an experience that we are still healing from, it is an experience that we need to learn from. Life is a continual experience of new and different perspectives and it is our own choice whether or not we choose to learn from these experiences. Our learning does not end when we depart from KLHT, and it does not end after college. Life is an ongoing learning process. May we keep an open mind, change our perspectives, and keep our lives vibrant. It will only make us stronger individuals - and in turn a more open and ac cepting human race.________________________________ ______ ~KSC

A substitute teacher usu ally comes and goes with out being remembered by many. They come in for a day or two, and try to hold down the fort until the absent teacher returns. In 1996, an English teacher in the Middle School went on maternity leave and a substitute was sent in. This is how many of us were introduced to Ms.Sadlowsky, back when the Class of 2003 was in the sixth grade. However, Ms. Sadlowsky is anything but a replaceable substitute. Over time Ms. Sadlowsky has become a permanent faculty member at KLHT, and has been an advisor to many seniors for over six years. She has made her mark on the lives of so many students —in different ways but all for the same reason: she cares. Whether it is advising the Yearbook staff, chaperoning a ski trip, reading a college essay, becoming a Class Dean, teaching piano lessons, assissting a student academically, or just being a friend who will listen to the chaotic life of a teenager, Ms. Sadlowsky has always been there for her students. Her pres ence and support has become a constant in many lives of the Class of 2003 and her passion for her students is appreciated and admired.

The Class of 2003 would like to dedicate this edition of Kaleidoscope to Mamie Sadlowsky, a teacher who is much more than just any old substitute. ________________ Thank you.________________

Lower School

Our Future at a Glance From the inquisitive minds o f our four- year-olds , to the introspective minds o f the fifth grade, the Lower School has many different ways to learn and to see the world. Learning about friendships on the playground is equally important as learning to work cooperatively in the classroom or in the gymnasium. T he Lower School’s foundation is built upon the capa bilities o f all the students.

A Faculty Perspective: Helen Kweskin I have been teaching at KLHT for 30 years now, so in fact I have devoted most of my adult life to being at this school. Certainly there have been many changes in people, policies, and attitudes during that time, but the one constant for me has always been the pleasure I have experienced in the classroom. 1 consider it a privilege (and great fun!) to be able to spend my day talking about Shakespeare's characters or arguing about Thoreau's philosophy (for example) with a group of interested and thoughtful students. I never know exactly what their reactions are going to be or the points they will choose to highlight, so that is why I keep coming back year after year: to get yet another perspective on the literature we are sharing, to have yet another chance to hear whether they think Jay Gatsby is a hero or a fool. There are some wonderfully magic moments in teaching, and those moments usually have to do with the capacity to connect: student to student; teacher to student; student and teacher to idea. Another great pleasure for me is the opportunity to form close intellectual and personal relationships with my students, several of whom have remained good friends over the years. At its best, KLHT can be a wonderful environment in which to be working: respectful of different talents, purposeful, and supportive.______________________

Teaching, I'm pleased to relate, has been both humbling and frustrating. Not because of the classes, grading and other responsibilities that come with the job. Those are the comparatively easy and entirely enjoyable parts. What's frustrating is the fact that I've been forced to come to grips with the fact that the corpus of knowledge that those who have come before us have left us is so inconceivably, so infinitely, so mind-numbingly massive that there really isn't even the remotest possibility of approaching it with any degree of authority, much less understanding it. For me, as a teacher and a student, the result of this realization has been a sort of painful ecstasy: "painful'' because in spite of my best efforts, I'll never truly be in possession of the knowledge I seek (Tantalus, you had it easy!) and "ecstasy" because the mere opportunity to pursue the knowledge left to me, the fact that I can flatter myself by pretending to grasp even the smallest fragment produces a sensation that is, well, "out of body." Teaching has made me humble...at least intellectually. It will always be on bended knee and with bowed head that I approach the genius of those who have dared to truly think "the big thoughts." To Milton, Dante, Shakespeare, Montaigne, Galileo, Michelangelo, da Vinci, Homer, St. Augustine, Cervantes, Chaucer, keats, Virgil, Luther, Newton, Darwin, Bach and the other giants: thank you.

Business Office A n g e la C arey, Jo -A n n C o rsillo , D a w n W h ite , C o rn e lia Jo n e s, E ld a T ay lor A Faculty Perspective: William Wallace As a child of the 60's, 1 have been influenced by that era's idealism, its ethical imperatives, and it's social consciousness. Over the years, and despite concerted resistance on my part, much of that idealism has been burned away to be replaced by a certain bitter cynicism. Happily, this effect has not extended to my work in teaching. No matter how grumpy I am when 1get up in the morning, or how upset I've become because of something! have heard on NPR while driving to school, I immediately feel better when I see my first student of the day. Each successive student enhances this feeling, until I am positively upbeat (not my natural state). In the flush of youth my contemporaries and 1 "knew," with the crystal clear certainty that is reserved for the young, that we could change the world. I only needed to find the vehicle to effect these changes. I didn't think I could find a cure for cancer or a way to feed the masses, so I sought to do my part through teaching. 1have not been disappointed. When I meet my ex-students from time to time, I am always impressed with the excellent men and women they have become, and I can perhaps be forgiven if 1 allow some of the credit for this to pass to myself. But why mathematics? I have some small ability in math, but it was not my favorite subject. Part of the reason for this was the people who usually taught it. They seemed determined to make the subject as dry, lifeless, and inaccessible as they themselves were. I recall thinking that math wasn't really that hard if you could just spice it up and desensitize it a bit. 1 would not engage in the mathematics equivalent of the psycho-babble 1 heard from education professors, or the techno-babble I heard from engineers. Their use of obfuscating language and a superior deportment had always been a turn-off that I could only attribute to self-aggrandizement. I had my mission: math for everyone.___________________________

My perspective regarding teaching at KLHT is unique. Al though I work in this school, and even have a Health Course, I would never presume to call myself a teacher. Before working in a school, I believed that teachers had the easiest job in the world —summers and Holidays off, home by 4:30. But every day I watch my colleagues dedicating themselves to instilling knowledge, asking difficult questions, constantly proding their students to do their best, bringing home large stacks of papers to grade, writing exams over holiday break and attending many meetings that last way past 4:30. It is now clear to me that teaching is probably one of the most challeng ing professions. As School Counselor, I am constantly im pressed with the faculty's abilities to engage the students and create an environment that is supportive and empowering. Indeed I feel privilaged to call the teachers here my col leagues. Like many of our teachers at KLHT I find it to be a delightful place to come to each day. I find the students to be polite, bright, insightful, and caring. During my training as a Social Worker, I worked with many different types of com munities and KLHT embodies many of the qualities that make a community strong and healthy: compassion, inclusivity, and cohesiveness. I am proud to be part of this community.___________________________________________

Cathy Mishkin ~ What is your perspective on teaching at KLHT? Teaching has allowed me to see the world through many different lenses. My beliefs and my understanding of history are constantly being tested by and measured against those of my students. Working in this environment is energizing and often extraordinarily stimulating. My work at KLHT has taken many turns since I arrived in 1976. 1 have tried many new things and I find that my work in the classroom is one of the most rewarding parts of my tenure here. I think teaching is a privilege. Teach ing is less about imparting information and more about being open to each student that walks in the door of the classroom. Each day in the classroom there are opportu nities to reach out to students and help them find mean ingful ways to live their lives. It is a pleasure to be part of this process.

Gary Caputi ~ What is your perspective on teaching at KLHT? Returning to the KLHT community has significantly impacted my perspective on teaching, for it has clearly put into focus for me what I think is important about teaching. I have always believed being a teacher is not a job, but a calling. It demands the best I have, and at the end of each and every day, it reminds me of a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson: "the reward of a thing well done is to have done it."

History Zathy Mishkin, Scott Sargent, Gary jjl^chpero, Elisabeth Newcomb, Catherine -leinz, Christos Galanopoulos

It is important for me to offer to each student whom I teach a structured and carefully planned program of challenges and opportunities. It is my goal to offer the guidance, support, and recognition which will encourage my students to explore those opportunities and to master the challenges. And working here at KLHT allows me the flexibility to help them acquire knowledge, understanding, and a sense of perspective. It's just one of the things that I cherish about being here. "Nobody has everything, but everybody has something." It is my responsibility to help my students find their "something," and the environment fostered by KLHT allows me to do just that. - JGC

My "view of the world" is inextricably connected with my view of being a teacher. As a teacher, I am someone who prepares kids before sending them into the world, and thus what is important to me in terms of teaching, must be what I feel is important in the world. Teaching has confirmed, rather than changed, my view that the most important thing in life is to find happiness. While school is not the "real world," I believe that the way a teacher relates to her students can dramatically affect the students' experiences in the world. I believe that each person should use her time in this world to find what makes her happy. Teaching is what makes me happy, because it is my job to help students discover their interests are. It is my job to encourage them, to get them excited, to help them when they are not happy and to teach them how to find whatever makes them happy. Teaching continually reminds me that the world is not about grades, or being good at everything, or about staying up until two a.m. every night to do homework. In the "real world," we don't need o be good at everything, and we want to have balance and sanity in our lives. Therefore, the more I see parents, students, and teachers worrying about one grade of a "C," and the more I see stressed out students, the more I remember what it is that 1 want to emphasize in my teaching. I choose to focus on perseverance, (taking the quiz again and again until you finally understand the material), attitude, (helping each student realize that she can do it), and effort (doing your best regardless of the grade that results). I have found the world to be a place where these three qualities are the keys to happiness. Notice that I didn't say "the keys to success." This is because 1 believe that finding happiness IS success, rather than the traditional view that having success leads to happiness. It is my hope that my students will leave my class not simply with "A's," but rather with the ability to persevere with a positive attitude and with a good work ethic.

A Faculty Perspective:

Christos Galanopoulos The influence that education exerts in society is enormous, and yet one has to wonder, especially after teaching for a number of years, about the extent of our awareness of its social ramifications. Can education aid society towards a betterment of living conditions? 1 am convinced it can. On the other hand, education can also worsen living condi tions. The question then naturally is: what is the philo sophical approach to education that a given society must follow? Or, more specifically, the one that I should follow? While there is no single answer to this question, one may look to the great philosophers, again, for some assistance. What was Socrates doing when he encouraged his pupils to seek knowledge within? To think for themselves! To come out of our "nonage," as Kant would write in the late 18th century of our era. To get rid of false absolutes! "The will to a system is a lack of integrity," Nietzsche would write later. Educators teach the skill of thinking for oneself. Erich Fromm wrote that German boys rushed to join the Nazis in order to be free from freedom. Indeed, education must not teach the false hopes and fears that turn us away from our nature, from freedom. The tragic events of World War II have led to a revaluation of the industrialist and linearist model of education and philoso phy. People are not created objects but creative subjects. Education's objective should be to teach the skill of living in the free world. For this skill, one will not find easy answers, but one may consult the great philosophers.

Cameron Williams SF: So this is the part where 1 tell all those triends who have helped me through high school a bunch of thinly veiled inside jokes. Instead, I opted to write a list o f things that I would give people upon my departure, so here goes: To Chuck, I leave a life-sized Barbie doll, a sound booth, and a bin ol chocolate cherries. To Taylor, I leave a m irror that will finally convince her of her own beauty, an anti-tickle belt, a vat o f jum bo shrim p, and a starring role in her own soap opera. To Julie, I leave a figurine o f m yself that says stupid things at random times and a life-time supply o f guy-reppelent. For Melissa, I leave a special bracelet that makes sure 1 won t accidentally hurt her. For Courtney M alloy, I leave the perfect person to fill her job description and a case to carry him around in. For Courtney Byrnes, 1 leave more tickets to see Catch 22.

The Class of 2003

Now...Fall 2003 Our Perspectives of Senior Year...

“I wish we could cut freshmen in the lunch line.” - Michael Sheehan “It’s great, and it’s fun, but I don’t like the lack of respect for hierarchy.” - Catherine Coates “Senior year isn’t as hard as everyone makes it out to be. Advice to the juniors: don’t worry about it too much.” - Jake Murphy

“I’ve enjoyed my time here, and senior year seems a little too short.” - Lauren Onis

“Senior year has had its high and low points. It is alot of work, but it is a memorable year. Juniors: do your best, have fun, and take advantage of your last year here —experience as much as you can.” - Katherine Carey

“What made senior year so great was the friendship; in our own wacky way, we love each other. That truly is a blessing.” - Chris Northrup

“It was different than I expected.” - Catherine Coates “Though I never thought the day would come when I would walk into school and be a senior, those days have come and gone quickly - but will be remembered fondly.” - Steve Sandak “It was good.” - Cameron Williams

Events Enhancing the View This year there were many different and exciting events at KLHT. On class trips, which begin each school year, students get to bond with their classmates while exploring the country. Homecoming is a celebration o f our athletes, our school, and our spirit. Other events include Halloween, the Holiday Show, and theatre produc tions like Peter Pan - shows that have given the community a chance to view the Drama department at its best.

!

There isonly one way to kick off the start of a new schoolyear: • -------Class Trips The beginning o f a year's memories Everyone has just come back from summer vacation and there is only one way to get back into school: class trips. Before the homework begins, the students embark on a trip that will bring them closer together while seeing parts of their country. This year the freshmen went off to Block Island, Newport, and Mystic. According to the students, they had a lot of time for movies, shopping and time to hang out with each other. The sophomores traveled to Philadelphia, and the juniors started their college visits along the eastern seaboard. Each grade was accompanied by several teachers who got to know the stu dents outside of the classroom. On these trips, students and teachers get the opportunity to gain a different view of each other. Not only are class trips a great chance to catch up with old friends, but they also allow new students to become part of the group.

Funniest, Scariest, and Best Group are all a part of... •

H allow eeen BOO!!! It’s that time of year when the days are getting shorter and the air gets a little bit colder. One of the most celebrated holidays of the year is most definitely HALLOWEEN. Both the likes of faculty and students come dressed to entertain. During the infamous costume assemlby, cos tumes are judged. Some of the categories in clude scariest, funniest, and best group. This year was no exception. There were costumes that ranged from a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle to a seamen. There was even something that was “Scarier than Ever” (you can ask the Doctor about that one). Halloween is a great holiday that gives everyone an opportunity to try on another identity and a chance to get a different perspective.

There is only one way to kick off the festivities of Homecoming # Spirit Week iff In anticipation of the Big Day!

B | IIIIU E a 9 Âť

It takes a whole week for everyone to get ready for the big day. Spirit week is filled with some of the most popular and time-honored traditions at IvLHT. The week starts off with Rank Day, a favorite to the senior class because they are allowed to come into school out of uniform while the freshmen are required to come in formal dress code. The week progresses with days such as Clash day and Pajama day. Pajama day is a favorite of the student body for several reasons. Firstly, the Student Council runs a breakfast in the dining room to raise money for the Homecoming dance. Secondly many stu dents love rolling out of bed and coming to school without having to change. Spirit Week gives us all a chance to share our school spirit as we prepare for Homecoming.

Getting Ready...

Pep Rally

Preparation for the Big Day! It’s almost here. Homecoming can only be kicked off in one way, and that way is the Pep Rally. This is one of the few events where all the divisions of the school come together for an event. Everyone - including the middle school band - packs into the Upper School gym pre pared to make noise for their teams. The gym is decorated with banners made by the Lower school students for all of the Varsity teams. All of the teams are introduced as they line up and take center stage. The Cheerleaders perform their dance and are a definite fan favorite. How ever, without a doubt, the best part of the Pep Rally is the presence of one person, the KLHT Viking. That’s right, the mascot is out in full force making sure every fan is up on their feet and cheering for the Vikings.

Neither rain, nor snow, nor sleet, nor hail can stop thefun of... •

Homecoming

A welcoming event for all Now it has come. The day parents have been planning for months and teams have had circled on their calendars. Homecoming is a day where old faces come back to their old stomping grounds, and teams enjoy the biggest crowds of the year. Every team plays, ranging from volley ball to football. Faculty7and students from both the Middle and Lower School come out to support the varsity7 teams as they make an at tempt at victory. Homecoming is full of exciting moments, whether its the cross country runners coming up the hill from the South Campus and making the last sprint to the finish line, or during halftime of the football game when the royal court is announced and driven around the field. Homecoming was capped off this year by a Luau themed dance where a good time was had by all and everyone got “laied” at the door.

The Drama Departnment does it again! •

Fall Play:

A Comedy of Errors

A Spotlight on the Stars of Tomorow Who knows how they do it? This years’ cast of Shakespeares’ “A Comedy of Errors” worked harder than any cast in recent history, and it showed when they performed. As many know, Shakespeare can be a little hard to understand and appreciate. However, the cast made the show very accessible for their peers by giving this Elizabethan comedy a little 21st century flavor. Equally as challenging to the acting was the set, lighting and sound. With the help of Ms. Darnton, students built and painted the elabo rate set, and set up sound and lighdng cues. Everyone who was involved in the drama this past year took their job seriously. This attitude was spear-headed by the Director, Mrs. Libonati. Her never ending persistence for excellence motivated the cast to do their best and put on a fantastic show.

I

It’sbeginning to look a lot like...

Ringing in the joy o f the season The Holiday Show is a time for everyone to get into the jolly mood of the season, while the Upper School students showcase their musical and thea trical talents. There is more than one opportunity for the members of the Drama department to show off their abilities, but the Holiday Show gives the Upper School a chance to view the band and KLHT Singers. This year the KLHT Singers and the KLHT Chorus sang a selection of Holiday songs. The various KLHT bands also performed numbers that ranged from holiday classics to more contemporary tunes. J ohn Mara performed “Christ mas Shoes,” while Molly played a beautiful piece on the violin. In addition, Oliver Hulland performed a challenging and exceptional peice on the piano. As always, Mrs. Libonati’s acting class performed their traditional rendition of a Dr. Suess story. The Holiday Show is the last opportunity for the school to come together before the new year.

Think lovely thoughts...

Spring Musical: Peter Pan A trip to Neverland... The Spring Musical is one of the annual oppurtunities for the KLHT’s theatrical depart ment to show off months and months of hard w ork. From the intricate costum es, the choreagraphv, and the actors flying around high above the stage - everything was done to perfec tion. Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Nichols worked tirelessly on the beautiful back drop of Neverland along with a devoted group of students. Ms. Darnton sacrificed many hours of sleep to help the stage, light, and sound crew make sure that everything went off without a hitch. Mrs. Libonati’s endless pursuit for a professional per formance came through, as the show blew people away. In the end, it was the actors who made the show. Whether it was Captain Hook (Tucker Sparkman) or little Michael Darling (Kyle Will iams) or the star, Peter Pan (John Mara), the actors made the stage come alive.

From the Supporter’s Perspective Many people have supported the seniors and the Yearbook this year. Without support, input, and hard work, this Yearbook would not exist. T he seniors have worked very hard this year, but they also received much guidance and support from family, faculty, and friends, without whom such accomplishments would not be possible.

Because of you girls, high school has been an amazing vacation for me.

You all have been and will always be a big part of my life. Times have been fun and times nave been hard, but we’ve always come out smiling. College will be great, but together, we’ll always be the greatest.

Ju lie : You're possibly one of the coolest people I know - not laughing is never an option when we hang out. Remember: the best movies are always abridged, the best beds are always at home, and the best food is always at Bennigans. Like your mom said, we ll never forget each other. Lauren: First impressions mean nothing. Your constant smile & “chipperness” keeps me going. We’ll stay original (& sneaky!). How is it that one person can a lw a y s be there for me? You have been truly amazing and will always be - never change. You’re the queen of high rollin’! Caitlin: Our friendship has grown stronger by the day and it makes me so happy. You will always be the best roommate (Penn State...) and your hysterical personality (do soup and naked mole rats ring a bell?) always makes me laugh. Never be a pessimist - life is good, especially with you! Kaitlin: We’re like sisters in so many ways and we’ve only gotten closer over the years. Soccer & lacrosse will never be the same without my other half on defense. You’re constantly there when I need you for help, or just to have fun! Keep laughing...you know I will! Jen n a: We are the original duo with those awesome socks. Whether it’s snowboarding (or me falling!), hanging out (especially on New Year’s!) or driving in our Volvos (to get chicken cutlets w/extra honey mustard!), we always have fun together.

i

you girb!

ANDREW:

What am I going to do without you?? It’s going to be so sad without my best friend and little brother around to watch movies and make me laugh about NOTHING! We have so much fun together and I’m going to miss you so much next year. I love you always . ,

From the Editor's Desk..

There is so much work that went into the making of this yearbook you are now reading. I've spent countless hours during the summer, on the weekends, and after school, working on this yearlong project along with the help and support of the staff and advisors. This book would not exist if it were not for the help and in-put of many people. The planning for this yearbook started at the end of last year when the new staff was assembled and brainstormed to come up with a theme. During the summer, Lisa, Chris, and I traveled to "yearbook camp in Rhode Island under the supervision of Ms. Sadlowsky. We also went shopping for supplies and organized our materials during the summer so that we would be ready once school started. The first day school began, our work did as well. Now a message to the staff: thanks to Krysten, Lauren, Jake, Jeremy, and Catherine Coates who were my senior section editors. I was happy to have the assistance and in-put of five very different and creative people. To Jake and Jeremy: thank you for your enthusiasm and willingness to help. Krysten and Lauren: thanks for your work on superlatives and other odds and ends - I like the expanded list this year. Catherine, without you and your hard work there would be no senior section. I was surprised at first and then greatly appreciative when you constantly followed through on your word, took care of all that needed to be done, and always offered to help with more. Thank you for the countless hours spent in the computer room, all the photos, and your companionship. I finally had someone to work with during those long afternoons, and without you I would probably have started talking to myself. I really appreciate the tremendous amount of work you put into this section. I'd also like to thank the senior class for being one of the first in a long time to hand in their senior photos before our first deadline. With all of the things we seniors had to worry about this year, you guys were pretty good about getting in all of the quotes, baby photos, scribbles, and ads that I asked you for. I'm going to miss you all - best of luck in the future. Thank you Mrs. Laramie for your help with the Lower school section. I know you had to deal with all of those tiny boxes I created on that template, but at least you got me back by calling me at home on Christmas break. Mr. Campbell - I thank you for accepting the challenge of the middle school section. This section has always been tough, but you were such a help to us this year, always willing to meet with us and to learn how to do your job - and smiling all the way. Thank you also to Rich Carpenter and Shelly Foster, our Jostens representatives - for taking care of all our questions and requests. We would not be able to complete this book without all of you. Thanks to Charles Guevara for working on the club section and your enthusiasm during the process, despite the hectic photo shoots. Taylor Gramps, my wonderful copy editor. I was glad you were part of the staff this year, and "the blurbs" turned out great. Sarah and Alison: you work this year was appreciated and I'm glad you were part of the staff. Alison, I appreciate your interest in the beginning of the year - you contributed a lot of ideas and input. Sarah, the new template for this year is very refreshing and the divider pages really look beautiful. Julie Sheetz, Zac, Natalia, and the rest of the photography staff: without you guys, there wouldn't really be a yearbook photos are the most important part! Zac, you are a very talented photographer and I appreciate you going to the winter sports games so often. Julie, we finally got the club photos finished! Thanks for your help this year. Thank you Natalia, for never missing a meeting and for always being there during the fall; whether it was captains photos, standing out in the freezing rain during soccer games, or stealing some shots from inside the wild senior room, you were always ready with your camera. Lisa and Taylor: both the Underclassman and Sports sections are wonderful. Taylor, Liz, and Emma, the Sports section looks great. Liz, I'm glad that you showed interest in the yearbook this year. Thank you for all of your work this year, and hopefully in the future. Taylor: remember if all else fails, get those team photos from "the little camera guy with the hat." Lisa, I was so happy to have you with me this summer at "yearbook cam p," and your section turned out very well regardless of the lack of pictures and the endless search for the perfect quotes. Next year you may have to pick up that camera and take some photos once in a while - remember, Camera Wholesal ers and Quoteland.com. I know both of you will do a good job next year. Honestly, I learned half the stuff I know just by learning as 1 went along, and you guys probably know more than you think you do. Some tips to keep in mind: 1. Plan way ahead in advance and be organized, it is never too early to start working on something - time goes by much faster than you think, 2. Delegate and hold people accountable, 3. The job # is 02431, don't forget it!, 4. Have fun, 5. Do your best, stay calm, relax, breathe, don't freak out, get more than 5 hours of sleep per night, and know that everything w on't always be perfect. You guys will be fine (and remember you can always call me at college). Steve: I'm very glad you were on the staff this year, otherwise we wouldn't have an Events section. Thank you so much for your work this year: rides to the camera store, Dunkin' Donuts, for coming in on the weekends, helping with the cover, and most of all for helping to keep me sane and reminding me to breathe every once in a while. Thanks for being conscientious and dependable, all of your work paid off. Chris: even though we wanted to kill each other at times, we do make quite a team. Thanks for making me laugh, and for joining us on our adventures at yearbook camp. I know that I am a perfectionist and can be nit-picky at times so thanks for putting up with me. In the end, we finally finished the book, and it turned out to be amazing. There are also a few faculty members I have to thank. Thank you to Mr. Lopes for all of his assistance with the computers. To Mr. Sinnott for always letting us use his room at all hours of the day and night and for keeping us company when we were there. Ms. Newcomb and Ms. Sadlowsky - our two wonderful advisors. Ms. Newcomb, I appreciate your willingness to help and learn, and for making many, many corrections. As always Ms. Sadlowsky, we couldn't have done this without you. I don't know how you do it all, but thank you for all of your help and support this year, and for coming in over the summer, on weekends, and after school with us. I will miss you next year. I think I've finally finished this book! I hope you all enjoy it for years to come. Good luck to everyone in the future.
