LOW-HEYWOOD THOMAS SCHOOL STAMFORD, CONN

I

Students come spinning in and out of your office, up and down, round and round; you are the center of the senior circus; we depend on your guidance to keep our horses headed in the right direction and our spirits up as we race around on the college merry-go-round. Thanks to a wonderful woman for guidance, affection, and concern. Love, Class of '78

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO THE CLASS OF 78? The summer ended in a super way! All the seniors joined Mrs. Cesare and the faculty at a picnic. After dividing into groups, seniors with teachers, each group went off either to make a square, move two logs, stand on a tire, or get everyone over tne rope. It was great fun with everyone relaxed, being herself. Then school started off with a bang! The seniors shot across the study hall to establish their carrels. The maroon blazers and pink and black sweaters made the school a colorful place. Paddington Bear installed himself as senior mascot by sitting in a prominent posi tion, plastering the w alls, and constantly pleading with the students to be good. He even joined in the school fun at the annual fall picnic with King School. School spirit seemed high as the year started. As the hockey season progressed, spirit rose even higher. With cheers from the stands, the teams had their best season. King also benefitted from our s Dirit; their soccer team greatly appreciated our cheers as they achieved a winning season. T nere was even a challenge match between King and Low-Heywood Thomas. L-HT won out had its injuries. The school work s owly but surely mounted up, and cries of " I didn't study last night for this test! What am I going to do! ? ! 11 and "O h , I'm going to f a il! " resounded throughout the school. Pressure mounted as the seniors also had to contend with college applications. Early action made some seniors joyous; Dartmouth, Tulane, Y a le , U . V a . , and Goucher are the better for their acceptances.

As November progressed, life became more settled. The successful one-act plays helped to relieve the tension. Everyone was grateful for Thanksgiving break, especially the seniors who had just finished writing term papers. Exams were endured, and everyone counted down the days to Christmas vacation. But first there was the Christmas Party — a memorable one! Mrs. Weidig returned and received a standing ovation. Also every senior received a little Paddington Bear from her sophomore sister. The Christmas Pageant was a great success, involving the entire Middle School and the Glee Club singing "H a lle lu ja h !11 The January snows arrived, and everyone wore corduroy pants of grey and blue. Seniors planned for the five-week internship as February approached. Florida was the most exotic ]lace for one lucky intern, while those seniors remaining to take classes at school became busier than ever. Twenty-four seniors left to try their wings in the professional and busi ness world. Meanwhile, actors and actresses from the two schools presented Inherit the Wind, an enthralling evening of theatre. Junior Party was early this year. It brought back memories of our own Junior Party — the hectic rehearsals, the papier mache fight, Mocha Ja v a , animals, "Uga -B u g a," Jane Bond, and the tree presented to us by our little sisters. As spring approached, senior thoughts centered on college. "W ill I be accepted?" was a common question heard in the study hall. The list expanded as April advanced, May sneaked in, and Advanced Placement week was endured, as were the final exams. The Prom, W illing Night, Blue-Black P ic n ic , and Graduation occupied the seniors in early June. And then it was June 7th, 1 9 7 8 , and the seniors walked up the a i s l e .....................
