Debbie Johnson has loved the music of the Tragically Hip since 1983, when they played a concert in her hometown of Brockville. “I’ve been a fan of them ever since,” she said as she waited to sign the book of condolences on the sunny Wednesday afternoon. “I tried to see them every year if I could. I went to Bobcaygeon to see them.” Johnson can’t say for sure how many Hip shows she’s seen in total. “Easily more than 20,” she remarked. “I’d have to go home and count my ticket stubs. Rebecca Rutledge, a young woman who also came down to pay her respects, discovered the Hip through her boyfriend, Kenny Turcotte, and his father.
