Christ the King University Parish King’s University College

For the last eight years, Christ the King University Parish has called “The Chapel” home.Only having to pay for repairs and upgrades, the owners of the space have provided us its use rent free for nearly five years. It has been a blessing and has allowed us to invest our monies in outreach, programming and staff and we have been provided the opportunity to build and to grow. We have been able to outfit a chapel with all the vessels and vestments, hymnals and sound equipment, Christmas trees and baptismal pools, which we had previously borrowed from the Sisters of St. Joseph. We have been able to repair and maintain the organ, all the while supporting a variety of student needs at King’s and the wider University community. All good things, as they say, must come to an end and we have been asked to assume the costs associated with the space. The benefit of this is that we now have a contract and can look forward to staying in our home for many years to come. Our rental costs will be $48,000 for the year with increases expected in the years to come. Cleaning and some of our repairs will be on top of this fee. I bring this to you because we will all need to rise to the occasion. In the office it means that we move forward with a 0% increase in programming and that I need you to consider raising your weekly and monthly donations. In the hopes of increasing transparency, I have included in this brief report, a few words about what we do, who we are, where we find our funding and where our monies are being spent. It should be noted that there are abnormalities in our funding situation. Like in another parishes, our deacon is not compensated for his work in the parish and my salary and housing expenses are assumed by the Diocese of London. The salaries for the rest of the Pastoral Team and staff come through King’s University College. As we move forward, know of my gratitude and thanks for your continued generosity and prayerful support. (Rev.) Michael Bechard Pastor/Christ the King University Parish Chaplain/King’s University College

On November 25, 2005, Ronald P. Fabbro, Bishop of London, decreed that Christ the King University Parish be established to serve the Catholic faithful connected to Western University. Our current community is comprised of the students, staff and faculty of King’s and Western, former members of Holy Spirit Parish, The Chapel Community of King’s College and others who have chosen this as their spiritual home. The Office of Campus Ministry at King’s is the location from which all of our pastoral initiatives are directed. The Office’s mission statement reads: Firmly rooted in the Roman Catholic tradition, we seek to nurture and challenge students, staff, faculty and the wider community in order to bring all into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. To this end, we provide programs and services in the areas of advocacy, catechesis, evangelization, community life, prayer and worship, justice and peace, leadership development and spiritual and pastoral counseling. We promote ecumenical and interfaith dialogue and prayer and seek to understand and serve the People of God and the entire human family. ...........................................................
