History of Westwood House According to the Kingswood School Archives Westwood House was the gift of the Posnett family to Kingswood School in 1933. The building was extended to accommodate the then 70 boarders. The Master in Charge of Westwood in 1933 wrote “the general aim of Westwood is to produce a free and happy atmosphere where common sense and service are guiding rules to allow ‘boys’ (as it was just then) to develop to the full, not only in book learning, but in Education in the widest sense”. Westwood House has been co-educational since 1999 and in the Kingswood in Focus (magazine) Edition in December 1999, the editor wrote “there is such a positive and bright start to senior school being provided by House staff at Westwood” and it remains today still a happy environment in which boys and girls who board aged 9 -13 develop their many friendships, diverse personalities and wide-ranging skills in a familyorientated environment. We hope to have 45 casual, flexi, weekly or termly boarders in our care, but have capacity for 51.
