Housing development in Mid Sussex is becoming an increasingly thorny subject. On page 12 there is a fascinating history of Haywards Heath Golf Club, but as the latest update explains, its future existence is dependent on planning being allowed on the existing course so that it can move to a new site where Lindfield Golf Club sits when the current lease expires on 31st December 2022.

Stop Haywards Heath Golf Club Development (SHHGCD) has been set up help build awareness and support for their campaign to oppose and update local residents of the planned development with a website at www.stophaywardsheathgolfclubdevelopment.co.uk Sarah Munday from SHHGCD commented:
“We have received the leaflet and information that Fairfax is starting a public consultation concerning their proposal to build 725 new homes on the golf course as part of their planned first phase. This is despite the fact the site has not been allocated for residential development in the recent Site Allocation Development Plan process. We understand Fairfax is planning to submit a planning application in February/March 2020.”
Clearly any proposed development will divide opinions with the need for housing being weighed against the need to protect the countryside and prevent the ever increasing strain on services.
