HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE PLAN

Horsham District Council is currently preparing a new Local Plan which will guide future developments in the Horsham District until 2036. The public are encouraged to have their say on the draft Local Plan during the public consultation from 17 February to 30 March.

The Government requires all local planning authorities to build a significant number of new homes in the coming years. The will present considerable challenges for the Council. The Horsham District Local Plan will set out how the District will deliver these developments in a sustainable way and support the delivery of community infrastructures, transport links and opportunities for local jobs.

The full Draft Local Plan is on the Council’s website from 17 February 2020 at www.horsham.gov.uk/localplanreview. Copies of the Draft Local Plan can also be viewed at the Council’s offices, Parkside, Chart Way, Horsham, RH12 1RL and in all District libraries during normal opening hours. A summary exhibition about the Draft Local Plan will also be available to view in Horsham Library between 6 and 30 March. The Council is running a series of drop-in sessions across the District to enable residents to see a summary of the proposed options and raise any questions with the Council’s Planning team. 20 February: Ashington Scout Hall, Church Lane, Ashington, RH20 3JX: 4 – 8pm 25 February: Henfield Village Hall, Coopers Way, Henfield BN5 9DB: 4 – 8pm 29 February: Swan Walk Shopping Centre, Horsham RH12 1HQ: 10am – 4pm 3 March: Ifield West Community Centre, 1A Dobbins Pl, Crawley RH11 0SZ: 4 – 8pm 4 March: Beeson House, 26 Lintot Square, Southwater, Horsham RH13 9LA: 4 – 8pm.

Those who wish to receive updates, comment on the plan and give their feedback during the first consultation stage on the first complete draft of the Local Plan will need to register at www.horsham.gov.uk/localplanreview. All responses should be made on the official form and returned by 5pm on Monday 30 March 2020. Horsham District Council Cabinet Member for Planning and Development Cllr Claire Vickers said:

“I am really pleased that we have now reached the stage where we can start our public consultation. The Government has instructed all local authorities to build a significantly higher number of new homes in the coming years.

“I do not underestimate the difficulty of this task, but if we are to have a new Local Plan ready for adoption in 2021 we need to work to a timetable and this consultation is part of that process.

“I urge everyone to read the consultation document and to give us your views.”

IT’S A LOVE AFFAIR

On the 14th May 2003 at 7.45 pm my life changed forever when I went on a blind date!

Feeling more than a little bruised and battered (we were both recently single after long marriages) the two of us took a chance when a mutual friend told both of us “I know someone who would be perfect for you.”

FEMALE VICAR

Mum-of-three The Reverend Canon Lisa Barnett has become the first female vicar of Horsham, following her appointment as Team Rector of St Mary’s Church. Her appointment at St Mary’s was confirmed by the Bishop of Chichester, Dr Martin Warner, during a licensing service at the church on Thursday, February 6. As well as leading the team at the town’s biggest church, Rev Barnett will also support St Leonard’s Church in Cambridge Road and Holy Trinity in Rushams Road.Rev Barnett, who grew up in Worthing, began her working life as a teacher, but later trained for ordination and served as vicar of St Augustine’s, Scaynes Hill, near Haywards Heath for eight years. GRAND MASTERS

Berry and Graham Hedley made a clean sweep of the top prizes at Horsham Bridge Club's AGM on Thursday (Feb 6).

The couple are both Grand Masters and showed their expertise in lifting the Morris Cups, Gould Bowl & Bounton Cup. They also won the 70% ladder for the top session score of the year.

Horsham Bridge Club hosts sessions for all standards in its East Street premises every weeknight plus two afternoons.There are regular lessons for beginners and improvers.
