EDITOR’S
note WELCOME to another jam-packed edition of City Heart. This month our cover is graced by Hatton Vale couple Bliss and Cameron Grayson, who were the winners of our cover competition in December. In anticipation of Valentine’s Day on February 14, there’s no better backdrop for a couple’s shoot than Lovers Lane, at Ironbark. Each year the famous bus stop brings lovers out in their droves to frolic between the giant heart and arrow. A big thank you must go to Gaye’s Hair Fashions in the Mall for styling our models and also QT photographer Claudia Baxter for capturing the images. Keep reading to follow the love story behind these city sweethearts. While you are there, you’ll also

know?
VALENTINE’S Day stems back to the ancient Roman fertility festival called Lupercalia. Legend has it single girls would write their names down and place them into an urn. Each bachelor in the community would pick a name out of the urn and would spend the year with her. It was considered the way of ensuring fertility. When Christianity became the official religion of the Roman Empire, the Christian church pegged the festival to the legend of St Valentine. According to the tale, third century AD Roman Emperor Claudius II sought to bolster his army and forbade young men to marry. Valentine defied the ban and performed marriages in secret. As the story goes, Valentine was executed in AD 270 on February 14 for his defiant ways.

CH FASHION
Black Beauty BLACK conveys mystery, glamour, elegance, drama and style. Keep it simple though. A little black dress, black heels and a black clutch is all you need. Want to showcase your quirky side? Switch the black heels for a fun turquoise or shocking pink. Warning: Remember, there’s a big difference between simple sophistication and Morticia Adams, so go easy. Too much black – clothes, shoes, accessories, jewellery and eye makeup can be more ‘scary Goth’ than ‘sexy glam’. Wear it with… an Oriental fragrance that tells the world, “I am an exotic enigma, wrapped in a mystery.” Our fave? Rogue Rihanna eau de parfum.
I am woman hear me roar! Let’s hear it for sexy scarlet, ruby red and majestic magenta. Red is powerful, emotional, exciting and passionate so have fun with it. Warning: Head-to-toe red is a big fashion no-no. Red dress, red shoes, red bag, red lips and red accessories is frankly too much sweetie, so let’s tone it down. A red dress and red shoes work best with a nude lip, a metallic clutch or even a splash of a contrasting colour like purple. Wear it with…a Mossy Woods Fragrance that says, “I am dynamic, dramatic and sensual!” Try Reb’l Fleur by Rihanna eau de toilette to really unleash your inner diva.
Orange you glad to see me? It’s fresh, it’s fun and it’s just a little bit bold. We recommend choosing one great piece in orange – a jacket, a dress, a cool statement bag or a great pair of orange heels – and pairing it with neutral black, white or navy. Warning: You really only need a splash of this colour. Too much orange and you may end up looking like you’re going to a costume party as a citrus fruit. Just sayin’. Wear it with…a fruity fragrance: You’re fun and effervescent. Go for bright sparkly floral notes mixed with sweet berries such as Beyoncé Heat Rush, Vera Wang Lovestruck or Reveal by Halle Berry.
LADIES, IT’S NOT JUST ABOUT WHAT YOU WEAR ON YOUR V-DAY DATE, IT’S ALSO ABOUT THE COLOURS AND THE SCENTS YOU CHOOSE TO EXPRESS YOUR INNER SELF SERIOUSLY! Colour and fragrance are key to sending out subtle, subliminal messages about who you are and what you want, so we’ve come up with a little colour and fragrance psychology 101 to help you out. – Rachel Vickary

Headaches and Neck Pain Addressing the Cause? If you suffer from headaches or neck pain that keep coming back, these are the facts you must know
Living with headaches is tough. Day after day of being miserable, irritable, and looking a lot older than you really are. The frustration of knowing that your friends and family don’t understand what you’re going through. Add this to doctors’ visits, MRI’s and CT scans -- which only come back with “normal” results. And that’s not all… trying one medication after another, feeling like you’re on a merry-go-round of drugs. All this is enough to make anyone want to scream!
IF YOU DO NOTHING ELSE, READ THIS:
1) An abnormal spinal curve is far more common in people who suffer from ongoing headaches and neck pain 2) An abnormal spinal curve can be readily identified using a standing x-ray image. 3) An abnormal spinal curve can often be improved using tested, published techniques. Why not get rid of those debilitating headaches today?
Normal neck curve in a pain free person

Aphrodisiacs: Food of Love
The perfect treat
CHOCOLATE Pure chocolate, the king of natural aphrodisiacs, contains a host of compounds including anandamide, the psychoactive feel-good chemical, and phenylethylamine, the “love chemical” which releases dopamine in the pleasure centres of the brain. It is said to help induce feelings of excitement, attraction and euphoria. Cacao also contains tryptophan, a key component of the neurotransmitter serotonin known to promote a sense of well-being and relaxation. FIGS This sexy fruit has long been

Cleopatra’s favourite fruit. Ancient Greeks held them as sacred and associated them with love and fertility. GARLIC Now, wait a minute. It might get a bad rap, but more importantly it’s strong, which is exactly what it will do for guys, apparently. Nevertheless, it is said garlic is full of magical properties to manifest powers of romance. One of these is allicin, an ingredient that will increase blood flow. OYSTERS Oysters are probably the most evocative symbol of passion, and many are aware of their reputation for increasing sexual desire. Oysters may be thought an aphrodisiac because of their high zinc content, which helps produce sperm and increases libido. HONEY Sweet, sticky honey is a great source of boron, a trace mineral that helps the body use and metabolize estrogen, the female sex hormone. This mineral may also enhance testosterone levels in the blood, the hormone responsible for promoting sex drive.
