This is journal of a short street photography project made in Kaunas the 2nd city of Lithuania
made during the 2012 Kaunas photo festival.
When I told my family I would be going to Lithuania the 1st fact they needed to tell me was that Lithuania has the highest suicide rate in Europe.
Of course in the short time I was there I never saw this fact revealed to me in any way. Instead looked to glimpse or challenge this dark statistic fact through faces, dark corners, found objects, the buildings,faces, young & old, shadows, old pictures in shop windows a decaying fairground, history and an ancient rusty nail found on the crumbling corner of lthe ongest street in Lithuania. So I looked for saddness and laughter in a city where history had spat tragedy and change in its face many times, I looked for Kaunas smiles.
